  • Pact?

before i start please bare in mind that i am the most guilty of what i am about to say so this isnt a rant against anyone....

Me and Jason have been enjoying a good old conversation about robot teams and pacts made before battles and how it all started. well my point of view is that my first time on robotwars was with thor and we made a pact from the start to give us a better chance of progressing. From those early days i just considered it normal to make a pact and it didnt really bother me at all but knowing no different from the start why would it......until now.

Both Jason and myself have decided that we are no longer going to do any pacts with any other roboteer in any competition what so ever....if others wish to make a pact against us then we wont complain thats up to you guys.

We would ask all other roboteers to join our desision but of course its up to you. without pacts we think it will make for better fighting and winning will be more true than teaming up and progressing. If we go out the first round then so be it.

Please read this post and acknowledge you understand and what you guys think.....input is needed on this one.

    Re: Pact?

By pact, I'm assuming you're just meaning teaming up with someone before a battle to, for example, take out a stronger opponent that you doubt you'd be able to tackle on your own? Just to clarify

If so, I can only really remember doing it one time in the past (there may have been other times) but it didn't work too well as the robot I'd made the pact with was sent OOTA accidentally by my robot and I then had to beat the other robot myself

But it's not something I generally look to do before every fight. In my opinion, if a robot is moving in the arena that isn't mine (or a tag partner) then it's a threat and therefore fair game. If I attack it and lose/get smashed to bits, then fair enough. Just lets me know I need to make my robot better.

The fact you've brought it up probably means if I ask, or am asked, about it in future, I'll be more aware of it rather than not giving it much thought. You're right, things are fairer and truer without pacts.

Also means if your robot manages to beat two opponents teamed up against you, you can have extra uber bragging rights about how awesome your bot is

Not sure we are ever going to get away from 'pacts' with Thor. With the greatest of respect it's a monster now and to be honest it just makes sense to go for it whilst there's someone else there. It just makes sense to go after the most dangerous robot wether its a pact or not. You actually can't plan what goes on in a fight anyway but the reality is if thor's on its back it aint hitting you. It's the same with Iron Awe.

To be honest it's a compliment because we all like to take our robots home with us and Thor has just got so good I don't see that you could do anything else.

There are situations where people decide there's three robots and two places in the next round so go for another one but that doesn't always work out. You've only got to look at DTK, Merlin and Iron Awe 6 at the UK champs when Gilbert threw himself out before DTK had been imobilised for less than 30secs to see that.

No not at all....was chatting to someone about this last night..... We dont mind if anyone else does it we are just saying that we are not going to. We dont have a problem with anyone teaming up against Thor. Its a compliment to us that people do team up against it and to be honest why wouldnt you. Thor will not make pacts anymore its just as simple as that.

112 people have viewed this thread and only 3 have replied so it says to me no-one is too bothered anyway. I was after some input and thoughts but never mind eh.

                    Re: Pact?

i would have shared my opinions but just as a newbie feather and ant builder i didn't think my input would have been especaily welcomed as say, a experianced member of this forum
i think two weaker robots trying to elimenate a stronger third is a good thing, but since not many bots atm are very weak i can see why maybe people want to win on their own to show their own power and skill.

                      Re: Pact?

I don't think I would do it by openly making a pact with another roboteer/team by going This guy is stronger than us so lets team up but i'm sure there is/will be times when it just happens, especially if there are only 3 bots in the arena, but more in a way where the two weaker team just have the same tactic of trying to team up and hope/assume that the other team is going to do the same.

Saying that, first fight we every had was a 2 on 1 in the UK Champs with my team having 2 robots against 1 from the Big Nipper team so we did attempt to go for Buzzbar first. Needless to say we got heavily beaten...

                        Re: Pact?

I have to say I don't really have much chance of winning with or with out a pact!
The Idea of alliances are part of war, and the sport is supposed to be a bit like a war.
So I don't think the idea of having a pact is in itself a bad idea and anyway how do you stop it!

                          Re: Pact?

If my opponent goes after who I attack, I wouldn't consider it a pact. I'd consider it more of a hey! that robot's trying to take my kill away from me
