    Re: Wooden Robot Class

Limitation to wood makes decent flippers impractical, Explosion needs the hardox base and flipper to hold itself together, a wood arm would just snap

Well there's currently nothing in the imaginary rules (that is unless you start to win everything :wink to say that you can't have internal metal so you could have some to hold the flipper as it's part of your weapon.

Simple rules work best, Wood robots.
The armour and chassis is made of wood. the motor mounts and protection for speed controllers can be made of metal, but not arranged in a way that makes a chassis or part of the armour,
Weapons what ever you like, as long as they are either made of wood or use wood working tools or cutting blades you can buy off the shelf. e.g. saws, saw blades, chisels (fixed or activated via an axe arm) drills abrasive discs (this one I like ) If the wood working tools have handles that are redundant these can be removed but the efectiveness of the weapon must not be enhanced.
          So to summarise

1/ all wood except for the obvious
2/ weapon = wood or wood working tool
          3/ maximum weight 13.6kg

            Re: Wooden Robot Class

So we could have things like saw blades? or even angle grinders?

If this is ok with the EO's then try it out at portsmoth and Kidderminster?

I don't think angle grinders are wood working tools sensible speeds would have to be observed this is why I liked the idea of sanding discs

Whats the final conclusion of this? Do we have a wooden fight booked and can we use spinning weapons for it?

Problem is, if you guys get a wooden fight I would assume it comes off the feathers

                      Re: Wooden Robot Class

Well at first you could stick it in between shows, ant test the safety of it all, and normal cutting disks wouldn't br a good idea, as they would shatter on impact... So the beetle weight cutting disks you get from the robot market place would be a better idea, as there designed not to shatter...

If we get the go ahead from Alan, then we could try wooden bots with disks at Kidderminster?

I was talking to Alan. on the topic of saws & I believe he said it was insurance stopping it on grounds of shattering.

certainly was for Fire. All of which makes little sense considering this is all happening in a bullet proof box.

The RL arena isn't a bulletproof box though, due to the roof material.
Seems trivial I know, but if an audience member got injured due to to shrapnel flying out of the 'bulletproof' box via the roof, your insurance becomes about as useful as a Palestinian alarm clock.

A possible way to avoid this could be disks must be horizontal only?

Could reduce the risk but won't eliminate it entirely. You're less likely to get big heavy shrapnel from a saw blade in the same way you would with a heavy spinning disc, but bits and pieces can fly off of robots in all different directions, regardless of what way the disc is orientated.
