Anyway, I've managed to get a peek at BBC comissioning & unless the new series can pull out something special, it won't get made.
If I recall correctly, Ed stated each episode (7th wars) cost 1/2 million pounds.
The BBC, not dependent on ever decreasing advertising revenues, only pays £285K per hour of entertainment footage prime time.
Robot Wars episodes are 45 minutes long.
Getting it back on TV is nice but in the long term, it's a loss leader. Robot Wars needs a more lucrative income stream. Online video may be one such avenue.
