Well before it, the two things I wanted to be most were a builder or train driver (that was after I realised being a Thunderbird or one of the Power Rangers wasn't really a feasible career path ) but I'm glad I took the engineering route.

Not sure if it'd be possible to mount a remote controlled camera or 2 inside the arena during a battle, would get rid of the glare from the polycarb which would be much better raw footage for an advert. A lot of the footage used there looks like its been taken by someone who just happens to be watching, not an official, but then, there is a reason for that

You'd only need to mount 4 static camera's inside the arena to get enough decent shots. The chances of them getting damaged seems low, plus if you put them inside Polycarb boxes then they would be safe and you could control the glare.

The voice-over chap sounds seriously bored out of his mind, but I shouldn't diss the advert. I was lucky enough to catch it the week before the first episode aired and tuned in out of mild curiosity. That mild curiosity instantly turned into utter love and excitement and was a pivotal point in making up my mind over what career path to pursue. Sounds a bit corny but it's true

Robot Wars was the only other program to be internally advertised... during Red Dwarf night, shown on BBC2 in February 1998 to celebrate Red Dwarf's 10th anniversary.

I recall the use of Mars (War of the Worlds)theme from the original advert. That must be one of the most taped adverts the BBC ever had.
