C sounds good, but A would probably suit me more personally (especially if the location is far away)
Also, my dad raised a good question last night - would these events be during half terms and school breaks?
Otherwise that would probably involve pulling kids out of school - roboteer and public.

Re: Jonno's question of the day ???

        Interesting.,

        Thanks for commenting guys.

So to summarise from here and personal emails I've had.

People appear to be more bothered about having a hotel provided, it would take the hassle of finding one away from them, and if we had enough notice we could all book into the same hotel, which would make for a good social evening throughout the event.

Of course everyone would love the extra daily amount and a prize fund if it was a UK champs but it appears more important to have a good set of trophies to fight for.

If there was budget then it appears a set appearance fee / day is more favourable than a prize fund, as it encourages people to come even if they dont think their robot can win !

The event would definately be in the school holidays, so we attract kids to come and see the show, and of course we capture our feather weight / younger community too.

We have talked about the possibility of running a FW Full combat champs too along side but no decision has been made.

Anyone anything else to share, comments etc feel free.

If FW Full combat means spinners, I'm all for it.

Bit late but Ive only just seen it.
My choice would be A and B - obviously having no job again does take its toll on everything I do but I dont have the baggage of getting time off

A & B both look like good options, but I am erring on the side of A, as that also removes the hassle of booking a hotel.

I would say that hotel accomodation is the best option. However there are possibly a few roboteers who will have to take any leave from work on an unpaid basis.
In these cases, maybe in addition to accomodation a modest fixed daily fee or help with travel costs could be offered from some type of 'hardship fund'?
As for a prize fund, personaly I have never considered it to be about the money and would much sooner have a nice trophy than a cheque.

Re: Jonno's question of the day ???

The two biggest expenses for ourselves (besides the robots) are accommodation and - due to distance - petrol.
So based on that, my first choice would be A, for reasons most other people have already mentioned (takes hassle out of booking, group booking = good social gathering opportunity)
A set fee/daily appearance amount would be a nice luxury that could help towards our petrol bills but is not something I'd consider essential especially if we'd be saving money on accommodation.
A prize fund is an even bigger luxury but I'd be happy with trophies or even simply the excitement of coming first. That's partly what I do this for.

                    So in summary: A > B > C
