Just to let you UK boys now, RessetiReplicas has now uploaded the entire Dutch series to Youtube.

And no offense to the Dutch, but a lot of the robots are kinda junk. A lot of them break down pretty quickly or the weapons aren't that great. They are a few good ones like Slicer Twisted Metal and Botwork, but a lot of them still looked to be in planning stages. Probably the best robot in the series had to be Matilda....you'll see why!

As far as commentary, didn't care that much for the host, he sure isn't Mick Foley. But the emcee Eric Corton replacing Jonathan Pearce and Stefan Frank is so entertaining despite not even being able to understand him! The only real problem I have with him is that he likes to say the F word a lot and that's not a good thing to say on a day time TV show. Still, it's Robot Wars. Now if only someone had the US and German series....

thats mad. it looks exactly like the uk series. do they transport the arena and house robots or are they all replicas? and the commentator is crazy!

No they are the same robots and arena as used in the British series. They just got all the Dutch robots to come over here and recorded it at the same time as Series 5 was being filmed

Nice one cheers dude. i was gonna say, they've done an amazing job of replicating it. how do you go about transporting a heavyweight robot? DHL or something or just put it in a big suitcase? customs went mad over my paintball guns, what are they like with robots?

The Killerhurtz team used to dismantle the robot and take it in two or three suitcases when they were in Battlebots, that's one approach :P if I recall correctly to save trouble with the axe at customs, they once buried the axe head in the desert and returned there and dug it up when the next series rolled around!

A HW can be transported in the back of a car, on a truck/trailer, the back of a van or even in the luggage departement of a coach. Been there, done it!

40+ Dutch and Belgian teams were rounded up somewhere central, and transported to the UK. We stayed there for 5 days, in hotel, dormatory or tents, dependiing on the RW budget.

You uploaded the first Dutch series, where all but 2 or 3 teams had never built and fought a robot before. The second series was a bit better. The year after some of us cought up with the British (TAN, Gravity) :-)

haha Thats sweet! so how did they find it? big X? :P or GPS or something? i bet the axe was worth a fair few quid. cheers for the replies people thats cured my curiosity.

thats awesome! i guess they cover all of the costs so you cant complain when the house robots destroy your machines. it makes good tv but sometimes its just too much. i assume robot wars UK did the same?

I'm sure John would be able to tell you himself but from what I heard, he literally drove out to the middle of the desert, dug a hole, covered it over and took note of where it was. It's still there to this day as he buried it up again

I only heard about this at the weekend, but apparently they made a note of the coordinates and then cracked out a metal detector when they got there. And then it got buried again after the competition second time round and John hasn't been back since, so it's still out there somewhere :P

wanna watch Bear Grylls doesn't come across it :P wish i could afford to travel around the world competing. need a robot first. progress is slow though. waiting on a custom controller, mainly down to the costs of off the shelf controllers. but im assured its more than half way there so shouldn't be too long. its all in CAD and ready to start. and a quick question while im at it. the Sabertooth Dual 5A Motor Controller, anyone know the frequency of the pulse width modulation? (sorry if that doesn't make sense, it isn't my question and i may have worded it wrong)

It's switched at 32kHz to make it out of the audible range of hearing.

cheers for that dude. i saw Sabertooth's transistors are switched at ultrasonic speeds (32kHz) for silent operation. i guessed it would be that, im having a fet bridge made up for it so i can run the motors i want to off of that controller. id rather buy a cheap tried and tested controller than wait ages for the software to be written. i guess (not knowing anything electronics) that months of writing go into something like that. i was also told this by the person thats doing my fet bridge. although hes going to give his own a go once ive got my bridge up and running. but i cant expect that to me completed any time soon. he just enjoys the challenge.
