  • Sabertooth red light - Help

Currently in my antweight is a sabertooth sx5 motor controller that was running fine until a loose screw fell causing a short circuit between the positive motor terminal and tghe motor body. Since then every time it has been switched on the redlight appears. i read it was due to either over current or over heating. I left the robot to coll for a long time and then tried again only for the red light to appear THEN afterwards the small chip in front of the M1 motor terminals to heat up.

I am unsure about how to check for over current but it is the same battery as before the incident and I have used my charger to ensure everything is correct.

I figure this might be permanent damage to the driver, what do you suggest should be done?

before binning it, have you checked the motor? Probably is the sabertooth but it is worthwhile checking with another motor

I conducted a few tests with that motor diconnected and it ran fine. it seems to be okay sititng there doign nothing but as soon as the servo or motor (that wasn't the one that was shorted) goes on the red light comes on.

Probably is the driver as it sparked/flashed and a faint puff of smoke and burning smell came through.

I shall attempt the warranty as it is still under 1 year old.
