I've done it in two DX6 used by RioBotz, it really improves battery life and is easy. BTW I also think that the DX7 can suffer the same mod. DX6i and DX5e don't need it.

This was discussed a while ago when the spektrum first came along. There was a bit of fuss kicked up about playing with the internal circuitry of radio gear which if done incorrectly could affect other radio sets around.

I'm tempted to try this on my DX7 actually, had a lot of problems with battery life during events. I actually modified it a bit a while ago to take a 'standard' charge plug rather than a Spektrum one (as me being me, I somehow managed to order a set without a charger) and the main outcome of that was being unable to do much testing ahead of Barnsley as the heat from soldering blew the transmitter fuse :P

From memory the voltage regulator's in more or less the same place so I'll let people know how it goes if I do give it a go.

I have just checked, the DX7 regulator is exactly at the same place as the DX6

just fitted the new part and all still works

still binds and holds the bind i am currently charging the battery to do the battery life test
