    Re: Talk to the FRA

Hmmmm........ Let me think for a moment.

Yep, ok. Widow Twanky, if it wasnt for the TV then you wouldnt have a robot that I built exclusivly for TV would you? Also, how many bots are there out there now? When I used to run events (yes, you did hear right Mr. Lawrie, I used to have my own arena, it was good enough for Jonno to hire, it was also good enough to be hired for the first FRA world champs which unfortunately didnt happen, I also had my own T shirts printed and whats more, I also wore them. Oh yes, I also used to PAY roboteers to turn up and fight. Oh wait, they also got their fuel paid for. Oh my, mustnt forget, we put them up in hotels and whats more, we fed them! and guess what, when I used to hold events I used to have to have a waiting list for robots wanting to attend our events. I had to have a 40 bot cut off. Want the emails showing roboteers begging to attend our events?) we used to have 40+ teams attending events. These teams were top TV teams. We used to have uadience figures of over 1100 and it was fun.

Yes, the sport has died down and thats not good. Its hanging on by its teeth and I dont think its doing that well at it. The FRA was setup to encourage and promote the sport. I know because I was the FIRST chairman and helped set up the constitution so please please dont preach to me about whats happening. I can see for myself.

When someone comes here and posts details about a possible TV company interest ( Geoff could have been a little more diplomatic, sorry Geoff) then its the responsibility of the FRA to either see if there is any base of fact or to chase it up. Do I hear you saying how? Well do as Geoff has just done, contact the forums poster and ask for details. I dont see why we should do what the FRA was setup to do.

TV companies ruling robots and us jumping to their rules? Where on earth do you think we came from? Where did our rules come from? Where did our audience come from? We cant keep realying on our old audiences. The kids are growning up and losing interest. The audiences are going. How are the likes of RoamingRobots going to sustain this? Only a while ago it was so bad that Jonno was on the verge of pulling out. We need new audience blood. Its bad enough getting 3 new roboteers when we have lost so so so many more. Its not sustainable and you know it. One of the other reasons for the FRA was to ensure fairness for roboteers when it comes down to TV companies. The FRA is supposed to support roboteers interests to TV companies NOT stop TV in favour of event organisers. This is a backwards step and to be frank, it's suicide.

I think thats enough for the moment. I shall stop thinking again. But I will ask Mr. Lawrie to look at team members and possibly know who they are before he posts such a dumb and frankly offensive comment as he did.

      Re: Talk to the FRA

Why exactly was it offensive? I've never even spoken to you before Mike. All I said was I didn't really see that lead as something to get worked up about, but if people thought differently maybe they should have chased it up if they wanted to try and run something TV based, but I see a problem with that, the problem being that there is still CURRENTLY only a limited amount of us running heavyweights and it would take co-operation from nearly all of these teams to get something worth broadcasting, which I don't really see happening myself. It doesn't matter how many people used to do events, we can only work with what we have now. I don't really care for all the politics myself, nothing to do with me, I just turn up where I can have a battle in a pleasant and well-run environment, but I don't really see how any offense could be taken by that remark. Maybe I didn't explain myself very well. I certainly wasn't trying to be offensive, why would I? I've never met any of you and I reakon if you'd met me then the last thing you'd know I want to do is cause offense. The whole thing just seems ridiculous to me, thats all.

        Re: Talk to the FRA

gotta be honest Mike mate that seemed a little out of order, we're all just expressing our opinions (I know as you are too) but that seemed a little offensive
theres no need for any of this to get personal we've all (EO's current and former) spoken to someone about TV at some point let's not get over whelmed by any of this theres enough for us all to do here without worrying about what may or may not be going on in america

for reference 100's of british production companies work for american networks just because they're contacting american roboteers doesnt mean their looking over here or not looking over here it will all depend on the contract, should we make an approach to them yes i think we should but that its one of many things the FRA was set up for

this sort of thing could be sorted by an FRA publicity officer ............. any takers????

          Re: Talk to the FRA

          Jesus.....

Get a Grip... I haven€™t seen this thread for a few days€¦how things get blown out of proportion, I cant believe your still arguing !

Karoline and Mike, go back and read Geoffs post....

          Or here it is ..

Why do I have to be the one to report the fact that a production company from the UK is having to contact a senior US roboteer to get his views, rather than those of our own roboteers organisation?
          It begs the following questions...
          1) why is the association not involved in discussions with this UK company?
          2) Did they even know about it, if not, why not?

If however the association have been approached then....
          1) Why does the production company feel that they still have to approach the US builders? (could our association not give them the required infomation?)
          2) Why have the association not informed it's members (you and me) of any such approach? After all, amongst their stated aims are the representation of the intrersts of it's members and the promotion of our sport.

Either way, the members are owed an explaination.

          A question€¦
Was that post made from a fellow roboteer, who had found out that there had been an interest from a TV company, decided to be helpful, and was highlighting it to its Governing body so they could go and investigate it for us all???

Or someone who has just resigned from the FRA, who wants to stir up a bit of trouble for his ex friend Mr Bell and the rest of the committee.

In this new wave of positive FRA , Wouldn€™t a normal helpful roboteer just simply send an email to Kane or John, letting them know this was happening so they could investigate it ??? Surely that would be the obvious choice !

I think not€¦ it was a blatant attack, nothing more, nothing less, why ???? we know why€¦.and then along come the heavy mob to defend him !

Is it any wonder people are standing up to you, they can see through it, and know what€™s going on !! They are just too polite to tell you.

It€™s just a shame people like Dave have been brought into the politics which just won€™t go away and let us all live happily!!

Yes I nearly had to give up, but I stuck with it, and have turned things around for now€¦. yes Mike you ha d a good arena, and you used to pay people€¦ so did we€¦ but times change, you moved on, and we are the ones putting our necks on the line to keep it going, no one else is going to!

            Re: Talk to the FRA

At the beginning of this current subject was information that, if it had been presented to us in a different manner, wouldn't have been overshadowed as it appears to have been. I think that's a shame.

This topic will be discussed at our next meeting, which is in a few weeks, but what it has shown me, from the posts so far, is that a TV show, for all it would be lovely, is not the be all and end all - live events are just as important. That doesn't mean we would not talk to any production company to try and help it to happen if the opportunity is there.

Silly little digs and pokes at each other do not help, if we are to move forward in our sport/hobby (from now on I am going to call it a spobby) we need to work together. That does not mean we cannot disagree but let's keep it in the spirit of things and not resort to personal attacks.

I can foresee our next meeting is going to be a busy one as the committee has been exceedingly busy in the background just recently with all we have been doing and new subjects, such as this, to consider. As I've already said, and I can't express it enough, the more we work together the more we can achieve.

            John

I'd like to know exactly who is doing the training. If it's not Jason or grant the safety officers I'd say it's a pretty pointless exercise.

                            Hi Dave.
Jason is the safety officer and his assistants are Ed Wallace, John Findlay and Grant Cooper. So any or all of these guys will be involved in the training.
