Merry Christmas everyone!
2009 has been a great year for Robo Challenge, but firstly we would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. A special thank you goes out to John Reid, Ian Lewis, Sam Smith, Wayne Cummins & all our events crew for all of your hard work. Every event, before during and after these guys have been there supporting us all the way and without that things would be far more difficult for us. Its highly appreciated thank you!
Also to all the roboteers who attend our events, Thank you€¦ You all never fail to put on an awesome show of real robot combat. There always seems to be a great spirit of community at our events and that€™s down to you! We are amazed by the efforts of people who are still building some truly excellent machines, just to fight once or twice a year at our events. Your efforts go a long way in making sure full combat stays alive!
So to all of you, Robo Challenge wish you a very happy Christmas, and a prosperous new year!
2009 UK Championships
This Year we held the 2009 Fighting Robots UK Championships at the Newcastle Centre for Life.
The venue was great, and the competition was even better! Robo Challenge produced a new gold and aluminium trophy which was donated to the FRA for all the UK featherweight championships. Each champion from the very beginning was also inscribed on it. We had over 40 machines enter and after 2 days of some of the best battle ever seen no-one could knock Beauty off the podium! Well done guys for an excellent well deserved victory.
As this event was part of the Newcastle Science Festival, we didn€™t need to worry about ticket sales and all our efforts went into making sure this was the best UK championships possible. We hope you enjoyed the event just as much as we did and we look forward to our future events.
Tag Team Champ€™s and Power Tool Drag Racing
This event was a bit of an experiment for us, combining our annual Tag Team championships with the awesome Power Tool Drag Racing!
With Silverline sponsoring the venue and prizes, Robo challenge took the opportunity to get the roboteering community involved in one our other favourite hobbies. With some excellent entries (and some not so excellent entries ïÂÅ ) taking to the drag strip, everyone seemed to have a great time. We saw some of you on the Gadget Show!
2010€¦€¦€¦€¦.
Our new website has been created to kick off 2010 in style, with almost daily news updates and reports of how the team are getting on in all our sports. www.robochallenge.co.uk is the place to go!
New pages and updates will be added shortly which will include news blogs from roboteers, build diaries, build pictures and any other interesting Gadgetry things people like us enjoy!
Robo Challenge is taking its next step with our educational workshops for 2010, bringing even more excitement and learning into schools all around the UK.
As always, Robo Challenge is always looking for bigger, better opportunities to improve our events and help improve the sport of combat robots. We have some very exciting events and news in the pipeline so keep a very close eye out on our website for the latest info.
One thing we can confirm is the next Power Tool Drag racing event will be held on 25th/26th September at the Fleet Air Arm€™s museum. The indoor racing track will be positioned directly under a Concordes wing! It€™s an awesome venue and would be great to see you there again. more details to follow.
Once again - A HUGE thank you to everyone for your support! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year€¦..
