  • Batteries

Hi this isnt a combat robot project but the batteries are the same. I need some batteries that will provide a stable 12 volts (less is ok but absolutely no more). My application will pull between 8-10 amps constantly possibly a little more for a second or two. also need these batteries to maintain 12 V for around half an hour ( more would be better), and although x and y dimensions arent too important they msut be no more than 5 cm thick ( dont think you cna get sla's this thin?).

I have done some tests with nicads and there capacity isnt too great ( max i could find was 3300 mah) and a 9.6 V pack went up to 11 V after a fresh charge, and i presume nimhs do the same so unless i can find a 12 V 10 amp regulator then thats a no no . I have been interested in lipos, I had a chat witht eh guys in smc and they said that a 11.1V lipo should do it but that i should be a little careful it dosent gotoo much over 11.1 V after a fresh charge. So having never used nimhs, sla's (much) or lipos at all, would would you suggest. Lipos are looking the most likely, but in smc they are really expensive, there are a few sites ive seen linked to before that do dirt cheap lipos but i cant find them on google , anybody got the links (one of hem had gold lipo in the name i think)

    Re: Batteries

you WILL NEED a stable regulator, batteries fluctuate in voltage way too much...

      Re: Batteries

the bigest 12 V regualtor ic i can get is 1 amp ( there are 2 amp variable regs), google says no but some people i have asked say i can put 12 V 1 amp regulators in parralel with a 5 W 0.5 ohm resistoron the outputof each one. Can this be done ?

        Google again....
Here's just one from a 10 second Google.

          Re: Batteries

neither of them can handle the current needed or be put in parralel (as far as i can find). Got a solution on ben heck forums any way . so thanks but that makes this closed.
