  • Looking back at the Robot Wars of old...

Some of those robot designs were awful! Did some of these people actually think they would win battles or do well? I'm not trying to be a put down, but look at Granny's Revenge as an example...

There is such a thing as just entering for a laugh and having fun Kevin

If all robots were solely designed to just dispose of their opponent and not with some fun in mind, it'd just be boring.

Even though some were aweful, they were genrally equally aweful (especially in the early series.) Most of the robots had some sort of problem that made them sort of evenly matched.

I agree with Joey when he says that it was about fun but I would like to add that it was also a new thing and there were no tried and tested methods of winning (not counting US competitions before because they were just pure combat i.e. no games like football.) The fact that it was new meant that people didn't know and therefore underestimated the requirements for a combat robot, e.g. battery capicity and armour, making for some rubbish robots.

For some reason I feel like I've read into this too much

i liked to see robots that were made for fun, but i did used to laugh mostly at some of the non uk entries (for sum reason) where they would clearly a pants weapon/robot but really big it up that it was gonna be really destructive.
