  • Future UK Champs

    hi all
Just me thinking out loud, a thought has crossed my mind what if the UK championship wasnt just one event, what if we ran a ladder competition that runs throughout the year across all event organisers.
We could give roaming robots 5 championship events and 5 RL events, Robots would score points from each fight they win. Each event in the champs would be the same length eg 24 robots per event in the comp,
winner of the uk champs would be based on who the one who wins the most fights through out the year

    just an idea

would be good but not as uk champs

as like iron awe who is uk champion may only be able to attend one event a year so it wouldnt be able to show whos the best - kind of would be just like the ranking on the rr website

would be good if we were able to get a league together so every1 fights each other but would be hard as not every1 can attend each event

The fact that there is so much pressure at the one event to keep everything working, patching things up, the getting it back together again before your next fight. That is part of the challenge and (for me anyway) just as much a part of the competition.

The idea I do like is a ranking system based upon results over a number of events but, as LJ says, it may not be possible for everyone eligible to be able to attend all the events where rankings are at stake.

Well who is to say that you cant have both systems?

Have an FRA league winner and an FRA UK champ each year.

DRG is doing this right now for featherweights. We have had 3 competitions so far, and all the points of all fights are added. We will drop the worst result, so if you miss one event or have such serious damage the robot couldnt compete it is not of the league tables yet, everyone still has a chance.

Pain In The Asp won one of these events, but missed two so it is now down in points, Hannibalito 1 and 3 never won any of the 3 events so far but always managed to score points so they are in 2nd and 3d place atm. Mischas Pulver (featherweight pulverizer) is in the lead for now.

We have one more competition event to go and then we will know who is the first DRG FW league champion.

Same for RR League, taken best results, and dropped points if a robot misses more than one event.

We used a percentage, doing it different for 2009, but it was a trial.

Mind you we are doing a lot of things different in 2009.

Its a nice idea, but i dont think it will ever work. IMHO a UK champs, is a straight competition down to one winner.

It would take too much hassle, and need a designated person to make it happen.

i agree with karoline and its keeping the robot running during the champs thats a challenge i like win or lose. to me the real uk champ is the one who does it over 1 event...be it 1 day or 5 days. its good for socials too brings us all together.

i like win or lose well half right but both systems are good.

I prefer the UK champs format as is (but full combat) then the stats like rr site is also good so you can see number of wins and losses. The only thing to remember is that back in the good old days we did it for fun and not just statistics so counting every fight can have its draw backs and lead to some tatical fights in stead of just keeping it going for the entertainment. One such example is starting with big nipper on top of Kronics flipper which just wound not happen in a seriaous fight.

Yeah the idea of the stats on the new Roaming robots system (to get a complete rehall over xmas) is to maybe spice up the compeititon fights a little. Not too much as like you said, Big Nipper going on Kronics flipper would never happen in a competition or slightly serious fight. So the stats have worked a bit. More features and stats to come. since we have the new powerful system in place we can do lots of cool stuff with it now, something i want to add is which robots you have beaten and lost in competition fights. Now that will spice things up as people have their own mental tally of how many times each robot has beaten each robot (cough Kanopener-Big Nipper) - (Cough Ripper - Envy) so now starting next year, its time for some real stats.

But going back to Craigs idea, sounds good, but i cant see it working, also all the changes of arenas and floor and so on between events.. arena hazards even the house robto etc... So probs no overall.

Craig, we understand what you are saying, and if we had separate events then each time the robot could go out perfect, where as in the champs this year, after this first fight against Tanto we broke the bottom end of the flipper, due to the power of the flipper and the weight of Tanto, this meant that between each fight we were working frantically to make sure that DTK was running and for us doing that work then seeing DTK go so far in the competition made the event so much better.
