The nub of the problem here is the Space Centre.

This is the second time this has happened with this venue.

They will possibly do it to Robots Live next year.

We would advise the FRA to not allow an event at this venue to be posted on the live event thread until a written contract has been guaranteed for 2009.

It is unlikely that the Space Centre will ever get a competitive bid again and RL should sting them accordingly.

I wouldnt say that Ewan. I think Shane may well be making some unwarranted assumptions about RL, but people get upset and angry about this kind of stuff because they feel its unjust or their mates are involved or whatever. All of us are enthusiasts who have a major personal stake in the sport (or pastime or whatever) continuing. Sometimes things get a bit heated but thats not a question of childishness its about being human and giving a damn. Ive no idea if it fits in with the way they want to do business or the kind of relationship they want to have with each other generally, but it would be a good idea for the community if the EOs sorted out some kind of informal agreement to discuss stuff like this before it blows up. Ultimately though the EOs are businesses and theyll make their own decisions as they see fit...

Having run my own business (3 completely different types) for nearly 30 years I have been asked to quote for work hundreds, if not thousands of times.
Its simple: some you win some you dont!
In my current business I know most of my competitors personally and accept that, a lot of the time, one of them will beat me to a job.
It would appear that, in this case, the venue did not make it clear they were asking for quotes not just handing out the job.
Team Wind power, for one, will be attending all events that are practical / possible regardless of who the EO is.
I am dismayed that the split might widen just as it appeared to be healing.

If everyone thought like that Bex, nothing in the world would ever get sorted. I for one am not going to give up on doing the right thing and trying to heal things. But of course you are entitled to your opinion.

I simply am not interested in the quarrels of event organisers outbidding each other... its called economic reality. Because the moment they started making a livelihood out of it (or at least relying on the income to be able to do more shows)they entered the economic reality. This is business quarrels, not a fight amongst -former- friends. This is hard capitalism, not betrayal.
So decide guys... do you treat it as a gentlemens hobby or as a business venture (with all the harsh trappings thereof) ?
Personally I cant be bothered about outbidding or shooting on someone others doves when people have made a business out of it. Right, it IS Jonnos livelihood. Yet, it was HIS decision to do so. But does that mean a venue has no right to seek the cheapest EO ? Are we going into price-fixing between suppliers ? Thats called a monopoly. (And I mean not the game here. It is no game when money is involved.) Hmmm...***dictionary search*** the word I should use is collusion.

Im not saying give up on the right thing at the end of the day you can try till your blue in the face but the only people who can sort it is the people involved!! Everyone else just follows suit, Its happened and THATS IT. And yes Im glad you agree that I AM entitled to my own opinion.

This thread is serving little purpose now.

There is not a split in the community, the vast majority have similar views.

As always there are people at either end of a spectrum with their views and are very vocal with their opinions.

Most of the time these views are not representative of the silent majorities position.

Sometimes these sort of threads go off on one and this thread is in danger of doing so leaving behind any thing based on any true facts.

This is a public forum. We need to think of how this looks to the public.
