  • Clarification from all event organisers please

basically its regarding entering my fw cluster in your events. i want to make sure im right and fair and within the rules!

my cluster is identical but one half is quite a bit heavier than the other. (combined weight 13.4kg) is it right that if the lighter half (under 50%) gets immobilised i can carry on?
as me and my co driver know which is the lighter half, what we were basically going to do was if the heavier (ie over 50%) became immobilised the other half would just stop so you/judges/opponent knew which was which and that the fight had ended for us.

the lids are labelled one double the other trouble but we swop the lids so competitors are always guessing which is the lighter machine (otherwise they would work out say double is the heaviest, and take that out first)
the only problem i can see is that after every fight you would need to weigh each half to make sure im not cheating LOL.

hope that makes sense, as im confused now!!

As far as I understand how the percentages work is that if there are two cluster bots each is 50%. If there are 3 then each is 33.3% and so on. Regardless of how much each weights.

i thought it was if 1 side was out then both are

tbh i think it should be if both are out your out as that could be classed as ur weapon - like when our flipper doesnt work then were out

im unsure but i this post is from when i started building, and wasnt sure what the current situation is.

        Adrian,

        We use a 50% rule... ·

Cluster bots, if 50% or more of the clusters becomes immobile or knocked out, all of the clusters are deemed to be knocked out.

If one weighs 5.5kg and the other 6.5kg, and the 5.5kg one gets knocked out, then you will still be classed as mobile.

if they both weigh the same and one gets knocked out, then they are both knocked out.

I dont believe there is an actual rule on the linking mech, however i would like to think an effort would be made to physically link them together. Maybe something better than Gaffer tape.

i guess thats what the answer will be for all EOs

i think the only one which the rule will need to be definate is the robochallenge events as thats when you will be fighting for prizes but this is changing at RR and coudl also at RL but i dont know about them

thats ok it wont be competing at robochallenge, as that is when i use the spinner, im just checking that things havent changed and im within the rules. i hope it doesnt cause a prob as i never moaned about those blimin flippers, when the rule was say 12kg plus gas

one thing john, it will be intersting to see how high you send me

lol yeye i think ull be hitting the roof a few times with good flips - i dont think ill be dominating much this yr with the bots what are coming in - maybe around 5 or 6 flippers now which are all as good as each other so its going to be about who gets who 1st

if i get the job iv applied for where me dad works im gonna spend me 1st months wages on 2 mags n a roboteq for a heavy :P as heavys rule but feathers r fun

we need a spinner heavy arena EOs :P

                    Geoff;

We do. Ive been fighting heavyweights competitively for a few years now, and ive sort of given up recently due to lack of interest.. this is due the fact that i still havnt come up against a spinner. Really would like to smash a spinner or get smashed.. i like being scared going into a battle, the most worried i get now is against tiberious (but even then i know Sams a wimp :P lol) , THZ just nocks you about, puts the odd dent in.. but hes never done structural damage to me. Tiberious probably could. and i know a good enough spinner could.

Too many people moan about taking damage these days, and have forgotten the smile, fix and repair frame of mind the sport needs to get big again.

Im going to try and put abit more effort back into the sport this year after having a few months break from bothering with it (i havnt even looked at either Turbulence MK2 or MK1 since hemel hempstead / uk champs)

Ive heard Shane swann finaly won somthing, carnt be having that.. Turbulence mk1 and MK2 will be back running and kicking ass soon.

thats why i like feathers, as you can use a spinner! it does put a downer on hw championship competitions when not all designs of robots can compete, but i can understand the costs etc.... of an arena. Is that maybe why more of the old robots dont compete anymore do ya think?

na adrian thats because its not on tv imo

razer is one of the only ppl iv heard say they wud love to fight again but cant as they make money off razer so cant damage it and i think firestorm has done a few static displays and said to my dad something like it costs 2 much to repair - i dno

but if it was announced tomo that it will b bk on tv this summer then they would be all back

funnily enough i had this conversation with someone today. They believed that heavyweights are better because the audience prefer them, and roboteers like it not fighting spinners, and that alot of roboteers dont want to fight spinners.
My point of view is that its not fighting robots or robot wars without full combat.
Thats exactly why I havnt built a heavyweight.
And thats also why alot of people now make feathers, because they can get that thrill of full combat - knowing you can get smashed.

Ive said it before as well, we need heavyweight spinners as much as we need axes, crushers and flippers. In order to have a proper competition all styles of robots should be able to compete.

But not all of the time, people that have been in RW know that repairing robots every week time and time again after every single event is getting old quick. It also is a fact we need as many active robots as possible and destroying them at every event will mean we dilute the numbers even more.

For major events (UK Champs, European champs) I still say we need to find a way to include spinners. But thats not going to be easy.
