Hello Roboteers
Well our first year is over, and we would just like to say a huge thank you to everybody who has supported us whether by competing, crewing or coming along to watch.
Less than a year ago we were just starting to draw up final designs for the arena and contemplating whether to go ahead or not, but from a lot of encouragement and support from roboteers we decided to €˜push the button€™. We had a couple of busy (and cold) months over winter building the arena, whilst trying to promote the first event as well. Luckily the arena didn€™t suffer too many problems during the build and it was ready on schedule for the beginning of February. The arena has gave a whole new look the live events scene, and enables the audience to see the complete action, in what we feel is the best enviroment.
Whitwick, Leicester, 10th & 11th February
The debut event for the arena, although actually our third event as an event organiser. Everything went smoothly we crowned our first ever champions.
Heavyweight Winner: Big Nipper
Featherweight Winner: Skink
Burgess Hill, 14th & 15th April
This show proved to be the biggest of the year, with over 2€™500 people attending it had an atmosphere not seen since Robot Wars. The arena saw several upgrades, including the completed lighting rig and arena flipper. We also saw the axes take control in the finals.
Heavyweight Winner: Terrorhurtz
Featherweight Winner: Little Hitter 2
Exeter, 7th & 8th July
Robots Live travelled to the far reaches of Devon for the first show in the West Country. Big Brother proved it€™s not yet over the hill!
Heavyweight Winner: Big Brother
Featherweight Winner: Skink
Hemel Hempstead, 1st & 2nd September
Our final show of the year greeted our biggest turnout in robots, with machines from across Europe competing, along with a couple of other special guest robots. Well done to Team Wind Power for taking home the double.
Heavyweight Winner: Pressure
Featherweight Winner: Skink

Next year, we already have two events and, have just announced our final 3 dates, seeing us travel to some of the biggest venues in the country. The arena will undergo a few upgrades and repairs having contained over a 150 fights. More arena FX are to be added along with a few other €˜items€™. Our show format will change as well for next year, in the effort to add more variety for the audience and make it more fun for the roboteers. Due to the success of the social at Hemel Hempstead we hope to involve this into more shows over the year. We have a few more projects in the planning as well for next year; they will be announced at a later date.
Next year we will be introducing a league system to cover all of our events for the heavyweights. Although still in the planning, this is just one thing to try and link the events together. There will still be the normal competitions running at each event.
Finally, once again, we wish to thank everyone for their support. A special mention to the crew, without the arena and shows wouldn€™t be what they are, quick mentions for; Ed Wallace, Dave Moulds, Dave Lang, John Lang, Andrew €˜Kenny€™ Kenworthy, Dean Butterworth, Marco Roberts, Dave Gamble and Ed & Rick for presenting the shows. Thanks to all the others who helped with getting the arena up/down, promotional work etc.
Many Thanks and Roll on 2008!
