    Winter tour.

At XFM H2 had its wheels to much in the centre which made the drive of H2 very nervous, specially without a gyro. For Robochallenge we had put the wheelbase 2 inches further to the back and the drive was a lot better then. Unfortunatly I didnt get a chance to show it because I blew the speed controller by putting the charger reversed on the controller instead of on the battery. Bu I guess the motors on Wedgie are in the same spot so it proves the drive was in the right place this time.

Now to get the drive of H3 sorted.

Hi Leo, you are right about the drive....its in a perfect position. It controlled really well aside from my little wheel problem. It could even out-turn Beauty.. The only problem I have is that by mounting the wheels where you put them, it increases the over all height of Wedgie, by the height of the wheels. So, if I want a body shell to go from low level to as high as possible, I end up using more material which means more weight!Ideally I would like to enclose the ram inside the body like Little Flipper or Beauty.Dont know why because it works very well as it is !

The rams on all Hannibalitos are pretty much the strongest parts on the robot anyway. We never bothered with armouring it. If you see Hannibalito 1 in its first version the robot was only 10cm high armoured all round, and the ram towering out the centre.

I have a lasting impression of my first event, with little hitter punching holes in cyberon:sad: so i guess im afraid of being damaged by an over head axe.

The top plate of your ram is 15mm, theres not much little hitter can do to that except hit a bungee.

                Winter tour.

H III used the same stuff as H II. HDPE. Only difference is thickness. In H II some parts were 10mm and most 5mm. In H III most is 10mm.
And no, with the right tools its not difficult to work with.
But the welding equipment is £££.

                    Winter tour.

                    Hi Mario,
Been looking in to hot air welding, considering the cost todate in aluminium fabrication I think its a good investment. So before I buy would you have a look at this make of welder on ebay the make and model seem to be the most popular.Could you also recommend a suitable attatchment to weld 10mm hdpe, and last of all what size welding rod.
What would I do without you!

Because of family commitments I cannot make the next dates on the winter tour but I hope to be around for the 2008 season.

                            Winter tour.

                            Andrew,

That is the exact same hot air welding tool we got.

To weld our 5,6 and 10mm HDPE we use this nozzle for it:

                            http://www.leister.com/en/plastic-welding-product.html?catalog=1b301b71-fc43-4641-8ef0-506387c3ebfd&subcatalog=&product=d721ddda-550f-4da4-8508-a7da56a2311b&view=sparepart&sparepart=78f6c3af-f5e9-49ab-8731-cacab916cb0ehttp://www.leister.com/en/plastic-we...01b71-fc43-464 1-8ef0-506387c3ebfd&subcatalog=&product=d721ddda-550f-4da4-8508-a7da56a2311b&vie w=sparepart&sparepart=78f6c3af-f5e9-49ab-8731-cacab916cb0e

                            Works like a charm.

                              Winter tour.

Andrew, the link you give on Ebay is accurate, and the price, for second hand a bit high, but it could be worse. New these are £300, without any attachments.
HDPE welding wire. Originaly I had a small cardboard box of Einhell HDPE welding rods Pricetag ‚20 for 25 30cm rods.
Then I just bought a rol of 5mm HDPE welding wire, from the same source as our full size HDPE plates. ‚30 for about 300m.

Hints for welding HDPE. Dont let it melt. If its been liquid, it becomes almost unweldable. Also, when working HDPE before welding, do not use any lubrificant, cooling or simular. This will make the surface equaly difficult to weld.
