  • Lightning Team make Feature film

    Hi All

Since filming in series 7 (Heat D) of Robot Wars, Team Lightning and our robot Lightning have retired from combat. Weve done a few events (and fought Chaos 2 and Tornado amongst others) but Lightning has retired still working, awaiting the re-release of Robot Wars (long wait probably). Lightning stuff is at http://www.calvertfilm.fsnet.co.ukwww.calvertfilm.fsnet.co.uk

But it may interest you to know that the Lightning driver and team leader Laurie (thats me) has made a computer generated one-man feature film that runs for 75 mins and is on DVD. It is called Monsters of the Id and can be bought online from places such as http://www.play.comwww.play.com If you wish to see the cast (some pretty ladies, and famous men), get some free downloads, or a gallery of shots and more there are more details at http://www.monstersmovie.comwww.monstersmovie.com

I thought Id post this on the FRA forum because some of you know me and it may be of interest.

Also Albert who was part of team Lightning was also involved on this movie too.

If you have time take a quick peak.

    All the best to you,
    Laurie

    Hi Laurie,

I had last caught up with your progress about a year ago and Im so happy for you that your work has now got a release.

Ed Bishop eh? Is that the same as was in UFO? And how long did all that take? CGI, post/p etc?

I have all ready seen some of you feature film work. It looks nice. I my self study computer animation at uni and currently doing my final year. I plan to do some kind of final piece in the area of robot combat (mainly inspired by transformers).
Heres a big nipper concept that I drew http://img481.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bignipperconceptdx1.jpghttp://img481.imageshack.us/my.php?i...conceptdx1.jpg

Nice idea for a version of Big Nipper Marco. But it looks more like Plundebug. A robot that the Plunderbird team were working on, with the Univerity of Southampton, at the end of/just after RW7.

The discovery channel series Robots revenge had the little plunderbug featured in the title sequence if I remember right...
I might have a digital version somewhere, but it all seems like millenia ago

Laurie will remember though as he was involved in that series.. Ive got a DVD Laurie compiled somewhere...

              Thanks for your nice comments.

That is indeed Ed Bishop from Gerry Andersons 70s show UFO. He was a lovely guy. Sadly he passed away 3 months after recording for my film but he did get to see his scene.

MOTI took 3 years in production and another year to get released. Getting a release is real tricky. More details on http://www.monstersmovie.comwww.monstersmovie.com

Big Nipper does indeed bear a resemblence to Mike Onslows Plunderbug as seen in techno Games. I saw both the large and small Plunderbugs only 5 months ago when I visited Mike in Alton. He has a fascinating workshop full of cool stuff.

I remember Robots Revenge too and have a DVD of it authored up myself - thanks for the offer though Rob. Has your son still got one of the Lightning Aliens? There are only three in existence - and I have the other two.
