    Whatever happened to regional socials?

    I used to attend regional socials both in lincs and yorkshire but it appears they have lost there appeal as only manchester seems to be continued,Im wondering wether the format and venues were wrong ie in pubs where you couldent drink if you were driving and you never got to see a robot,would the idea have worked better if roboteers invited likeminded peeps to thier workshops to view thier machine and then chat and drink over a garden barbie

    On that respect, the House of Chaos is most of the time a roboteering hotspot during the weekends.

    And if the weather is fine, the tiny garden a nice spot for gentle conversation.

    Unfortunatly, thats over here, in far far away Belgium.

    If privacy isnt a big matter, sleeping space can be found for a small group of people.

      I was thinking of more of a local get together of roboteers Mario,I know they are getting more and more thin on the ground but belgium is a little too far for me,is there anyone in the york area?amateurs most welcome

        Babs and me participated once on the Yorkshire regional. That is bloody long trip for a night in the pub.

              The socials for East mids and Yorks were well attended in the past, but members are split by a margin of 50 miles and the north south margin meant a long drive and a night in the pub with a maximum of 1 pint all night for the driver. I also never got home before 1am from huddersfield.

              It would be good to arrange another evening but somewhere more neutral - just south of Sheffield and close to the M1. If anyone has a suggestion for such a location I will seriousy consider it. I have another motive, as I am being increasingly asked to cast votes on sensitive issues in my capacity on the FRA committee, I would like the views of the people that I am voting for. Sending e-mails is cumbersome and not everyone replies.

              The last event I organised we had a cracking meal around a long table - in a pub - and both team MAD and Roaming Robots were in attendance..........

              And everyone had a good night........

              Any ideas for a venue please e-mail me or post here.

              I will also put this on the socials section of the forum.

                The SE region stretches EW from Kent to Dorset and north to the M4 and south London thats 160 x 60 miles approx = 9600 sq miles PHEW! Its actually quite hard to arrange a venue that everyone can get to easily.

                If anyone in my region knows of any good places along the M3 in the west, the M20 in the east and the M25/M23 in south-central I shall be happy to check them out.

                This has also gone in the socials section of the forum.
