Ive been quoted £445+VAT for Hardox sheet 3.2mm *1500mm*2000mm. Is this a good price?

It is a 77 kg sheet after all.

That gives us £5.7/kg. Rather normal for a high strength low alloy steel. But it can be gotten cheaper with a bit of searching.

Leo, we did buy a part of a full sheet. 6000*2500mm 3.2mm thick. Together with a few other Dutch roboteers.

Where is that quote from? Its much cheaper to buy 4mm if you have the weight for about half of the price of 3.2mm

@mario: Even so, at twice the price we are still under that quote. I know we got a discount, but not that big of a discount.

I have had a quote for 3mm*1500mm*3000mm hardox 4oo cost about £250. This sounds ok and he says its 3mm I didnt think you could get that size! This sounds a good price I will have some spare when it arrives if anyone wants any I should be able to bring some on the RR winter tour shows or the RL Hemel Hempstead show

Hi I have just been on the phone to the supplier about this steel he says its not Hardox as this is a trade name, but the steel is the same as Hardox 400. So I am prepared to try this and see if it is as good. The supplier is a company called

So thatll be Glen Metals ARM400, looking at the website. Likely very similar to Hardox from the description. I think Id still be happy to take the remainder of that sheet to beef up the armour on Ka-Pow!
Is this the minimum sheet size they sell?

The minimum order is 1 sheet at 3 meters*1.5 meters. The cost to me including VAT and carrage is £226.65p.

I do hope this information helps.

The ARM400 is at the sheet metal workshop for cutting, they are €œHaving Kittens€ about breaking their guillotine cutting the sheet into manageable bits, I don€™t know if this will be a problem they can cut 6mm stainless ok. But they want to ring the supplier to ask if they can use their machine before committing to cutting the metal this delay means I may not have it for Hemel Hempstead but I should have it for the winter tour I hope to go to 2 events in that series.

Rule of thumb when sheering Hardox....as I recall... is to treat it as steel twice the thickness.
