  • Good books.

A few of the newer guys are asking questions recently, that got me thinking.

How did I first learn the basics of what other people had done in combat robots?

~This coincidentally, was on my mind while on a visit to the local library, when I spotted some of the old books I read years ago, like how to build a combat robot etc. Mostly American stuff, but still very informative.

Can anyone offer some suggested reading material for new and old roboteers alike?

My first suggestion is gearheads This is a fantastic account of how robot wars came to be, and the political rollercoaster it has ridden since its first days. It also has some very interesting stories about robots and roboteers we are familiar with in the UK. It is not technical, offer no how to information, but is generally really interesting in my opinion.

Any other suggestions on must read books for roboteers?

    Good books.

I have Kickin Bot by Grant Imahara. he has a battlebots robot called Deadblow. the book is a step by step guide about safety, designing and building a robot with alot of info on different components with comparison tables. its about 500 pages.
Grant is from Mythbusters so some of u will know him from that.

      Good books.

Pretty difficult to get a copy (only 1000 were printed) but if you are lucky enough to get a hold of one, Peter Bennett the team captain of team typhoon wrote a very informative book. It detailed how the robot came into being, the physics and various other concepts along with reports of all the battles that the team took part in.

I have a copy myself that anyone going to either of the Roaming robots feather or UK championships or the robochallenge event in July can take a look at if they fancy.
