Is it a digital camcorder? If so you should be able to use a firewire cable to transfer the film directly using some capture software, not sure what I use but I will let you know.

If it isnt, the easiest way I can think of is to buy a tv tuner card for your PC, connecting it up, playing it back on the camcorder and recording it on the PC

    Anyone got any other ideas?

If its digital then dead easy. Premiere pro, pinnacle studio or ulead video studio would all easily take the footage off the camera through IEEE 1394.

If its analouge, either use a tv tuner/capture card or find someone with a recordable standalone DVD player and hook the camcorder up to the input on that.

Avid Free DV http://www.avid.com/products/freedv/index.asphttp://www.avid.com/products/freedv/index.asp is a good program. It has some tutorials to help you get started. As the name implies, it is free.

            1. Turn your computer off and un - wire all the cables (should be easy to remember were they go) and there should be about 6 panels (go onto http://www.psychoflingteam.co.ukwww.psychoflingteam.co.uk to see a photo) and (I know this sounds drastic for an eleven year old to be telling you to do this but) un screw the panel on the left hand - side as you look at your computer with the disk drive facing you. Take the panel of and the other panels that i said about earlier, there is another sort of curved shaped panel which you un - screw so that one of those little panels should come loose. (If not jiggle it a bit) Then there is a card holder near the panel. If there is a free one of them then you can buy a firewire card at a local computer store slot that in and slot the cable into the back of your computer the slot the other end into your camera where it says DV. For the capturing software I use Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus, but if you buy that you will probably regret it as it is £300 odd. But there is always the easy method using Windows Movie Maker which can be simpler cheaper (free) but isnt the most reliable program on the planet!
