  • Horizon. The Grand Challenge.

In next weeks Radio Times there is a small article in the Pick of the Day for Oct 31.
part of it reads:- There are some scientific undertones, but realy its like a more grown-up vesion of Robot Wars.
    Emphasis added.

Does this mean that the BBC now thinks that RW is a kids programe??

It always was a kids program! The writer is expressing their own view of RW, not the BBCs, but no doubt it was regarded as a kids/ adults crossover show, hence the early evening time slot and its remarkable popularity. The format was clearly designed to appeal to kids and perhaps to whimsical adults of the Thunderbirds generation too. As it turned out, lots of other more normal adults enjoyed all the weird looking machines beating the hell out of each other...

I have no problem with calling RW a kids program. Kids are also still the most loyal fans of robot wars, even now.

It was very popular at the time, also very educational,it spawned Technogames after all,and the Beeb payed some of us very well to take our machines to schools, colleges, and learning centres to talk about them, and help the kids
build their own,and they even supplied the kits, I am still asked to go to these events,
where whole families get involved so it is still remembered well by all,
