  • Washing machine for parts

Hi everyone, have a Hotpoint WMA61 washing machine going on the cheap. All mechanics work, only the electronic board that has gone bust. Might be good for scavenging parts off of seen as it has a 1600rpm motor somewhere inside. Any offers welcome!

It'll be an AC motor more than likely, no real use to us for battery powered robots.

Ah fair enough, well in that case it's free to anyone who wants it!

Inb4 petrol engine>generator>AC powered robot Idk if the rules even allow for that.

Sure, but some EO's might not allow you in their events because the venue won't allow it.

It is possible, and has probably been done, but you can rewind motors to different voltages and speeds. Its very time consuming but can give you a very powerful motor that might fit a unique design of robot or allow you to build something more compact. I will say though that this is a VERY out there idea. Unless you have a real reason to do it, its probably not worth it.

Chances are it's a split phase single phase AC motor. No amount of rewinding will make that a DC motor because it won't have any magnets/commutator/brushes etc. Suppose the generator idea would work, but there's no point tbh.

Yeah, I know you're pretty much just asking for energy loss with that many different transfer stages, but it'd be a fun and silly idea to try if you had the time.

May not be much use for robotics, but hardwire it and have some fun with it

I spent 36 weeks teaching it at the work this year, 3 times a week on one of the 3 month blocks so unfortunately that sorta stuff is drilled into my head forever now

Haha great suggestions guys, Goliath is more than welcome to it if he wants to pick it up, although word on the street is the new shunt has a thing for destroying washing machines If no one wants it it will be going down the dump next week, but by the sounds of it, it was a lot more useful washing laundry than destroying other robots
