  • 3.2mm Hardox 450

Although the rumours that 3.2mm Hardox is no longer available, I called SSAB Swedish Steel here in the Netherlands and they have sheets of 2.5x8.5m of Hardox 450 on stock in Belgium. And a new batch of 3.2mm thick sheets of 2.5x6m is produced end of December / beginning of Januari.

Same as 3,5 years ago, if there is enough interest then I will buy a sheet of 2.5x8.5m and cut it in 14 sheets of 1x1.5m.
Last time I used an angle grinder to cut up the big sheet, but now I plan to use a plasma cutter. Therefore the edges will be a little bit more rough. If the sheets tend to bend to much because of the heat input, then I will use the angle grinder again instead.

    So for sale:
    Hardox 450, 3.2mm thick
    size 1x1.5m
£118,- per sheet (excluding postage costs)

They can be picked up here in the Netherlands, or I can bring it to an event next year.
As an alternative I can have a look how much costs to drive to the south of England and drop it off at someone who can distribute it among the buyers.

If there are 12 sheets reserved, then I will order the sheet. Since this morning 5 are reserved.
Please respond tuesday at latest, because of the validity of the SSAB Quotation.

Indeed I am located in the Netherlands near Eindhoven. Normally Portsmouth would be the first event for me in England next year, but if we split a bit of the costs then in Januari I might be able to go to the event in Londen, which is mentioned on the Robotwars website.
I will try to work out a proposal tomorrow, and send a PM to those who have a sheet reserved.

All 14 sheets are now reserved, of which 11 confirmed and 3 are still "possibly". Of these 3 sheets 1 is reserved for Shakesc and 1 for Eventorizon. Anyway the large sheet will be ordered wednesday morning.

If at the end of tuesday there will be requests for atleast 12 more confirmed sheets, then 2 large sheets can be ordered.
First reservation is the 2nd "possibly" sheet for Eventorizion.

You all should think of different ways to armour robots..hardox has ruined the sport enough.

If Hardox and equivalent ware-steels were banned people would move to Titanium or something else. Everyone would start using that and the current situation would re-assert itself. Entanglement weapons are banned which would stop spinners, which are the very reason Hardox is used with easy access to brushless motors..

I am not sure it has ruined the sport. Yes its not as entertaining as total destruction but none of us really want to be sweeping up our machine or taking the bits home in a box... I have done both. There will be a development or new idea soon enough that forces a change, everyone will adapt then it will be a while before it changes again.

I am confident that Grant's new axe-bot and Sam's replacement for NST will make even the Hardox bricks think again about their construction.

I can't find any January 2014 event in London on the website.

maybe !!! I like aluminium as cheap and easy to work but hardox does allow for a exoskeleton design, making more shapes and designs possible with less bracing, but on the other hand even the mighty Thor struggles to damage it. I don't wont ceros to get battered but damage also carries its own charm. in my opinion
