  • Mag S28-400 magnet retaining kits

Dispite this motor being designed for robot combat, I have still found a problem with the magnets moving purely from the shocks transmitted through to the motor from flips and charges even though it is rubber mounted inside the robot.
The magnets are only glued in so are liable to move if the glue fails. Movement of 1 magnet caused a significant loss of torque.

I have designed and now successfully trialled a pair of CNC machined aluminium parts which simply fit inside the mag to prevent any movement of the magnets away from their designed location.

I'm just gauging if any teams would be interested in purchasing such parts and depending on numbers I might consider producing a batch.

would these be suitable for the smaller 150 as well?

        Thanks Clive,

Hi Gary, I think the design on the 150's is esentially the same as the 400 (excepting the difference in dimensions) so I recon the same design of retainer would be compatible, i'll have to take a look at a 150 to double check as the motor drawings on the robotmarketplace website don't give enough information to be able to confirm. It should be easy enough to adjust the program to alter the size of the retaining parts to suit.

I would have thought it would, we have both types and cannot see any difference other than the length. We also use home made retaining kits for big nipper after find out the hard way.

Lol as did i Mark but my retaining mounts were rather rushed so I wouldn't mind a nicely machined solution if the price is right

Mind you its a wonder hornet still spins, two broken mags thrown together to make one working one with a wobbly output shaft!

I can see myself needing one of these too, when the time comes... I had thought of CNCing a whole custom motor can, or at least some inserts, after reading a fair bit about moving magnets...

Cheers Mark, thats useful to know.

Cool, i'll get in touch with you guys if i decide to make some, i'd prefer do at least 5 motors worth if anyone else is interested.

Lol, it seems to work well tho Gary! One of the bosches in tib is a hash of components from other motors.

Yeah, i was considering doing the same thing Nick, there might be potential to get abit more torque out of the mag with a thicker steel wall thickness between the magnets.
