  • My robot design...

Hello Im new here, pleased to meet you all.

    I have drawn the design of my robot, and you can see the picture here;

    http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z141/giantfoot_truck/HRKiller.jpghttp://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...k/HRKiller.jpg

That is just the idea and the simple drawing of the robot, the real one is going to be much better and well constructed, do you think this kind of robot are allowed to participate in the arena?

Its weapon will consist of double ground drill on front side, double tree-cutter chainsaw on the back side, and spinning heavy steel disc on the right and left side. Its name is HRKiller.

It will probably weight around 200+ kg because of the massive weapons.

I will be happy to hear from the experts advice and support.

Not sure if youre serious Jack, but if so theres quite a few problems with the design! Heavyweights have to weigh in at 100Kg for a start. Drills dont really work in practice against modern armour, but in any case all the rotating weapons youve specified would not be allowed to run in either the Roaming Robots or Robots Live arenas at the moment for safety reasons. Also Im afraid itd never turn with that arrangement of wheels and would proabably fall over at the slightest touch too! Interesting looking concept though and dont be put off if you are keen to build. Usually one good (and legal) weapon is a better bet than several weaker ones.

      Looks nifty though.

But yes, none of the current arenas in Europe are capable of safely containing spinner robots (robots who have spinning disks for weapons). Were working on it, but dont expect to have an event for heavyweight spinners soon. Drills have been proven to be useless (you need pushing power in order to drill a hole and guess what... your opponent wont oblige you by standing still).

And you have me mightily curious about one other thing: where in the name of all that is holy are you going to put the removable link* ?

*A removable connector that is used to turn the robot off and on and that should be accessible on your robot outside the reach of its weaponry.

        Thanks for the response!
I have never participate in robots battle before, and yes Im serious about making that robot. I can never stop thinking of building it and battle it in the arena!

Robots live arena you mean by the robots battle arena? where everyone battles their robots?

Even the chainsaw and the spinning disc isnt allowed in the arena? but some robot like hypno-disc used the spinning disc.. and matilda the houserobot, used the chainsaw.

Im looking forward for the response.

I am always in favor of new robots build, but please keep your weight within the official rules so you can actually use them in our arenas and not hurt your back while moving them around. 100kg is already a pain.

              http://www.roamingrobots.co.ukwww.roamingrobots.co.uk

these are companies who go around the uk to put on a show and us roboteers go and fight

the arena isnt able to hold spinners as its a lower spec arena

although http://www.robochallenge.co.ukwww.robochallenge.co.uk have events for featherweights (12kg) and are able to have spinners.

                Thanks for those links john!

What about some robots that have already used spinning weapon? like hypno disc, 13 black, and pussycat. Are they not allowed to battle anymore?

                  My robot design...

since its not filmed for TV anymore alot of the popular teams do not compete.

                  razer attends robochallenge events

and the driver of pussycat is a member of staff at roamingrobots events

                    My robot design...

The current arenas just arent strong enough to assuredly and certainly contain debris from spinning weapons. It can all be found in the rules and guidelines of the FRA for the roboteers and for the event organisers. See the FRA homepage for these documents. They make for interesting reading.

Robots like Hypnodisc and Pussycat cant compete in the current arenas because they are not allowed to as per the rules. They can enter the fights, but with weapons disabled. Its a pity, but that is the way things are for the moment.

The event organisers are working on better stronger arenas but that involves quite a lot of money, time, and (heavy) materials. And that is why -sadly- building robots with spinning weapons is currently discouraged.

Im not saying your design is a bad one. Its just that as Safety Officer this particular roboteerette is overwhelmingly curious about where you will put the removable link in a robot that frankly bristles with weapons. Im not saying I dislike your design, to tell you the truth when I saw it for a moment I thought it was Christmas time and Santa does exist, but there are practical considerations.

                      My robot design...

i think that if someone did build a spinner arena it will have to be replaced in maybe 2/3 years anyway as spinners will just get even more powerful over the years

(just look at feathers) a few years ago spinners were very weak compared to what they are now - some of them or most nowadays r better then some of the heavys shown on robot wars lol

and in a few years time when better/lighter motors come out - if they do? then i think that the arenas will need higher spec?

Thank you everyone for the response!

Elisabeth, the removable link is going to be somewhere on the top of the robot.
Please dont confer about the removable link again, I have mentioned in the earlier post that its just the simple drawing of the robot, its not the actual image of the robot Im trying to build. So does simple drawing have to show everything whats on the robot?

Do you think anyone would build a machine that cannot be turned off and on? lol!
Dont worry, trust me I know what Im doing, okay?

                          My robot design...

That was a pretty dismissive response Jack! Everyones just trying to help you develop the design a little further; no doubt being that if it were built as the picture indicates it would perform less than poorly in combat (and you have the problem of rotating weapons in the currently used UK arenas).

So to help give us a better idea of what situation youre in Ill ask a few questions. Firstly do you have any experience in engineering or general fabrication that would be useful in building a robot? Secondly what tools/workshop access do you have? Also what kind of resources do you currently have and how much money are you willing to spend on a machine?

                          All the best

A quick Google of your email addy gives reference to a profile on another site ........... this suggests your name maybe Yusuf from Indonesia!??

Yes woody, Yusuf is name, lets just say Jack morpheus is my forum name, or email name. And yup I came from Indonesian. There are not many Indonesian roboteer, in fact almost none, so Im trying to get help from people who are more experienced.
