  • IF Robot Wars were to return...

Wont happen. Already been discussed to death, but if it did return, what format should it take?

Should it return to the games and battle format of series 1-2, or the pure battle format that we have last seen? Of course, games could always be used as side tournaments, like the Football/Sumo and Pinball of series 3-4.

What about having each Heat as a six robot Annihilator? Of course, Im sure roboteers would object to this.

Prize money. It definately has to be there. They did in series 7, but I suggest they need to take it a little bit further. Each Semi-Finalist (16 Heats?) would receive 500 pounds, and the Grand Finalist would recieve a 7K prize.
This comes to to only 15 Thousand, which Im sure is hardly expensive for a big TV company!

(I also think that winners of the end of series prizes should receive some amount of money in order to encourage original designs)

As regards the presentation of the show. We definately need to ditch the WWE style crowd taunting from the presenter, and sure, the fake roboteer grudges were funny in Extreme (I especially loved My granny hates them), but RW 4 was the series before the presentation fell apart. RW6 and 7 made it even worse by giving away results with those stupid previews.

Some more technical details on the robots would be nice. Battlebots got it right as far as technical details were concerned (though I dont want to see RW with twenty minutes of pre match football style hype)

    Anything else? Thoughts?

Doing away with the robot/team introductions was a BIG mistake. It was OK in Series 5, seeing as you knew it was a good robot (I mean, does anyone REALLY want to know the facts/figures of a robot made out of cardboard with a feather duster for a weapon?), but dropping them after that season sort of took away the charm.

The main concept has to be pure battling, but I would like some games to return. How about all three? Football, Sumo AND Pinball?

I always liked the gauntlet idea, but making the gauntlet a preliminary for the main event was a bad idea in my opinion. A gauntlet (like all other games besides the battles) should be on voluntary basis.

Oh, and Ive remembered something else...the lookbacks. After the robots stats, they used to show the robots attempts of previous years, if theyd already competed before. It would be beneficial to show them again, especially as it would do away with a lot of confusion.

          What about the House Robots?

Keep all nine of them and improve them. This is what I think they need done.

Dead Metal: Nothing major, hes tough enough as it is.

Shunt: Hes too lightweight, making him a major target for flippers. Maybe they should make the axe broader so he could self-right.

Matilda: Nothing major, she hadnt needed any since the last major one (which was, of course, her flywheel addition).

Sgt Bash: Hes very vulnerable from the sides. Some side spikes may make him more protected. They probably wont work, but still.

Sir Killalot: I think he could benefit from a stabiliser at the front, to prevent him from tipping over when spinning a robot around. He has become clumsier since the robots got heavier.

Refbot: He needs weapons. Nothing destructive, of course. Maybe his ploughs could have springs in them, to flick back unruly robots. And some skirts to lower his GC.

Mr Psycho: None...well, except perhaps interchangable hammer heads.

Growler: None, except tone down the speed a bit, and practise the driving.

Cassius Chrome: To make him more serious, I think his front should be remodeled as a large plough, so he could push robots around, and his nose could incorporate a little pincer, like that of Kraken, or another robot I saw but cant remember...the boxing arms are a hidden surprise in the plough.

              Nice.

Another smaller thing they should do is to stop focusing so much on the crowd, unless theres actually something funny like that Stinger fan with the wig. Most of the shots of the crowd are just cringe worthy shots of people spazzing out.

My 2 cents (Yes Im American, please dont hold it against me)

Matildas got to go. House robots are meant to do superficial, entertaining damage, NOT turn the tide of a fight completely. Most robots attacked by her tusks and flywheel are done. Much as I liked what the wheel did to Widows revenge, Im going to reccomend replacing it with a chainsaw and making the tusks static

Why not have roboteers submit a video of their robot destroying things? Even if their robot breaks down at the starting gate, the potential will be realized. They can play these vids at the beginning instead of spoilers

No more house robots in the lower weight competitions. Im issuing a permanent restraining order following the Beefcake incident

The gauntlet, I can see both ways, but in the end, I do not think it should return Pussycat and Hypnodisc are two examples of great fighters, who faulter in the You cant just kill everything events. Definitely bring back Pinball, sumo, and Football on the side

Matildas chainsaw was actually meant to be interchangable with her flywheel (in fact, I saw some videos from the American version of the show, and in at least two instances, she did have her chainsaw). I will agree that she does have her flywheel on too much.

If theyre (the producers) still worried about her getting attacked, install a srimech. Just a simple roll bar would do, I think. Continuing on from your idea Ian, if her tusks were static, she could have another superficial weapon at the front, like a miniture axe or a grabber.

Ian: it would be cool if they showed competitor demo vids. I seem to remember this happening in the earlier series. Didnt they show Blade Runner (Toe Cutter) chopping a melon in two in series 3?

In the earlier seasons, they introduced all the competitor robots at once (due to the Gauntlet and stuff). Based on Ians idea, they could fill the arena with various stuff, then introduce each robot, one at a time, and allow them to smash things up a bit.

I think that the seeds automatically go through to the fighting rounds but the other robots must qualify via the gauntlet which they could show the qualifying before the spoilers so they show you which robots are fighting against the seeds and I think they should do the footy but make the robots be put into teams like in technogames.
