Welcome to Battle 9 of the Fowler Fic War Series 3.1 Qualifying Round, and today we have 4 more robots looking to book their places in the main draw later on.
We€™ve got one of the oldest vapourbots€™ latest incarnation, a rip off of Red Square, a character from Sonic turned vicious and an American Battlebot with a venomous sting.

Activate!
And at the word activate, all the machines do just that. Charging across the arena, Drilla Killa 7 is immediately proved to be the fastest as he charges across and slams straight into the side of Slam Job, immediately dragging him up the wedge. He allows him to stay in limbo for a brief moment, before bringing the drill out, sending him off in a shower of sparks.
Tails and Artemis seem to have seen this as an excuse to fight each other, and with Artemis having a srimech, Tails has chosen to use his rear end to try and win this particular battle. What he doesn€™t exactly account for is the 12mm titanium which seems to come off better in the battle as it stops the spinning bar dead. Realising that trying to win this particular battle is futile, Tails moves away and goes to chase the other 2 machines that are still locked in combat on the other side of the ring.
What he doesn€™t account for, however, is that Artemis will chase him, and although their speeds are equal on paper, Artemis has the better acceleration and soon catches up with him, sliding underneath the rear panel, and flicking him gracefully into a air bound cartwheel with the spike. Having done a 540 through the air, he lands on the ground on his back, but fires the flipper, which just as gracefully as he got there, turns him back onto his wheels, before he flies off to his intended target.
Having deserted his new nemesis, Tails finds himself embroiled in with Slam Job and Drilla Killa 7 quicker than he expected as Drilla Killa 7 pushes him directly in front of him, Tails decides to use this as an opportunity to intercept and slides the wedge underneath as he€™s going past, narrowly avoiding getting himself trapped on the hurtling figure of Drilla Killa 7. He pushes him around for a while before rolling him over with the flipper. The Battlebot tries to fight back by self-righting, but finds himself underneath the wedge again, and shoved into the fence, where he is again flipped, but this time onto his side against the wall, where he has no direct way of self-righting.
Artemis has used the opportunity to attack Drilla Killa 7 who is still wondering where the robot whose butt he was whooping, getting underneath the rear inverted wedge of the parallelogram and shoving him into the wall before trying to repeat Tails€™ trick with Slam Job. Due to the angle and length of Drilla Killa 7 it doesn€™t work, but it does punch straight through the 5mm titanium, and although not evident until later, takes out the use of the inverted wedges€™ drill.
Slam Job is impatiently trying to flick his axe around to wrangle himself free of the side wall, but he can€™t get away, and the tannoy system counts him out to make him the first victim of this battle.
Tails now seems to have decided to pick a fight with Drilla Killa 7, having now disposed of his intended target, and also having established that Artemis is too strong for him. Artemis seems all too happy to have aid in disposing of his target, and moves away to rest his batteries for a minute and to allow Tails to have a go at him. This time Tails uses the rear-mounted spinning weapon and has far more success as the hammerheads break into the 5mm titanium with not too much hassle. Drilla Killa 7 tries to move away from the Sonic character, only to find that Tails is more manouvreable, and he slides under the back wedge, this time with the flipper and sends him inverted.
It€™s at this point that Rich discovers the loss of his precious drill, as he tries to bring it out for use as a ramming weapon, only to discover that the damned thing isn€™t moving. Artemis comes charging in at Drilla Killa 7, only to be greeted by the wedge, and as the 2 almost clearanceless wedges meet, it€™s Artemis that is thrown over by the force of the impact. Drilla Killa 7 charges in under the inverted robot to try and slam him into the fence, but Dan€™s machine just flips itself off the wedge and back onto the ground. Cursing his luck Rich tries to mount another attack on the Welsh Wonder, but Tails intercepts as he did with Slam Job earlier, only this time it€™s Drilla Killa 7 he€™s attacking.
Slamming into him with the rear bar, he again rips into the side panel, although it stops the bar, and Rich uses this opportunity to move Drilla Killa 7 away from Steve€™s machine. The attacking is relentless however, and Rich soon finds himself confronted with Artemis, who slides underneath the front wedge this time, and rams him into the fence. With Rich safely on the wedge, Dan performs the highest successful launch of the series, throwing Rich€™s machine around 55cm into the air, and out of the arena.
CEASE
Artemis is art indeed, while Tails isn€™t all fiction. Drilla Killa 7 and Slam Job go out.
Right, this is the plan. I am way until aroudn the 27th or 28th. When I return, Im gonna be writing up the qualifiers in aroudn 100-200 words each, enough to give you a taste, but not my usual essay lenght.
When these are sorted, youre gonna have full-length fights for the rest of the series...
Right people, as promised, little tiny summaries of all of the qualifying round fights. To be honest, I think I may do this for future series as well if I use the qualifying format, it makes it both more realistic, and easier for me to do as I€™m lazy.
So here€™s a round up of all 40 fights including the ones I€™ve already done:
Fight 1
Hexadecimator and Drilla Killa Renaissance went through after Hexadecimator flipped Archangel of the Abyss out of the arena and pushed the unfancied Kronic into the pit
Fight 2
Yet Another Cut Above the Rest breezed through a judges decision, while Heart of fire just managed to scrape through against Hell Brand and a heavily beaten Thermidor 2
Fight 3
Plunderbird disposed of Snakebite Evolution, before himself being taken out, leaving Tornado and the highly impressive Y4 to go through to the main draw
Fight 4
Cyclone Force 2 knocks Twister and Natural Selection out of both the arena and the tournament, with Metal Sonic Spin Dash accompanying him into the mains
Fight 5
After wreaking carnage against All Apologies with Typhoon 2, Steve decides to take out The Botles reunited as the weakest of his robots, leaving Typhoon 2 and an unimpressive Chameleon to go through.
Fight 6
Mantis pushed Judo Chop down the pit before his teammate Agro 3.5 shoves him down the pit in a display of treachery. Agro 3.5 and Jackson Wallop go through.
Fight 7
Flack Attack 2 and Battle Raptor 4, prove their worth by taking out Shotgun Slapper and the Raven in double quick speed.
Fight 8
Drilla Killa 7 injures both Artemis and Slam Job Before Tails disposes of the latter and then Drilla Kill himself, leaving him and Artemis to go through
Fight 9
Atomic goes through after flipping Odysseus 2 out of the arena, while Firefly breaks down after persistent attacks from Blizzard.
Fight 10
Corkscrew goes through after obliterating Apply Some Pressure and Nightmare makes it a realie double as he disposes of the 2 halves of Going Crunch
Fight 11
Slammer V and MORD 2 increase number of vapours in the next round, by disposing of the Matador and Obliteration 2, both via the pit.
Fight 12
Hector and SYNDOS took no great time in knocking out Mauler by pitting, and A Vapourbot named Frank who had his aerial nipped off by Hector
Fight 13
Behemoth rolls over Ruf Ruf Dougal and then lifts 4 Swords out of the arena, leaving him and the surprisingly passive Enterprise to go through to round 2
Fight 14
Scaramanga 2 and Thor team up, with Thor hammering Tenderizer€™s Revenge 2 to death and Scaramanga 2 flipping Banshee through the smokescreen.
Fight 15
Whirligig 4.0 and Vlad 2.0 take out Boulder Dash and Psycho Cyan by shoving the into one another, with Boulder Dash receiving damage and Psycho Cyan€™s battery leads being knocked out.
Fight 16
The Robotnik Twins become the first clusterbot to qualify for the main war, taking out Brian Boltano while Tammy the 2nd became yet another McGregor robot to get through, shunting a well under-strength Sorrow
Fight 17
Slaying Mantis F dominates proceedings, destroying Gemini€™s hopes in under a minute, before picking on both Liar, and Cacodemon. In the end, it€™s the latter that joins him into the main draw
Fight 18
In a repeat of the series 3 clash, Chaos 2 flips Mace out of the competition, before Shovearound 2 shoves Mega Masher 2 down the pit when it opens.
Fight 19
Beta renders Quake useless after smashing down on it€™s weapon system, while Pulverizer€™s great spinning disc has the power to throw Megaladon Maneater of the ring, just before the end of the fight.
Fight 20
360 does a mega destructive act on just about everyone, taking out all 3 of the machines, but Axe-o-Lotl gets through on merit of being the last standing machine.
Fight 21
Killer Carrot 2 proves to be the surprise package of this battle, taking out a very outdate Chaos in a matter of seconds. Persistent nagging from the other 2 machines also takes out You Only Live Once, sending the Carrot and Scorpion Bite into the main draw
Fight 22
Aquarius knocks out the Big Push with surprising ease, while a heavily damaged Sonic Boom goes through when Psyclonic knocks itself out on the arena wall
Fight 23
Nodachi and Death And Taxes go out, as the former is fought out by a persistent Sheer Heart Attack, whilst Death and Taxes is taken out by Pussycat who land a number of hits on the exposed tracks.
Fight 24
Hurricane Hugo and Drillzilla use their combine pushing strength to knock out Diotoir and Daisy Chopper, the former being pushed down the pit and the latter€™s wheels becoming jammed against the chassis after a hard slam.
Fight 25
Manta surprisingly disposes of Ringwraith, after proving that their outer shell is a lot more resilient than people gave them credit for, while Big Nipper join Judge Shred 3 and Manta in a judges decision, which put Manta through easily, and Big Nipper on aggression.
Fight 26
Killeidascope breezes through a judges decision, thanks to vast amounts of damage to a narrowly running Clawed Hopper. The Hoper goes out, while Baldur Gamma goes through on account of it€™s aggression towards Cyberdemon who also survived to the judges decision.
Fight 27
Love Bite 2.0 is the only robot to come through in one piece out of this battle, but is joined by a heavily damaged Split Decision, who only survives due to having 1 part run away from most of the damage. Novastorm sealed their own fate by driving down the pit, while Holy Hand Grenade has its internals crushed by the jaws of Love Bite
Fight 28
Toby The T-Ram Engine upsets the odds, by shoving everything around the arena, pitting Malaria and Jack Kennedy, leaving only Stalker 2 as the remaining mobile robot in the arena.
Fight 29
Leprosy Infection, the surprise package of the cancelled FFW 3 got through easily here, along with Clawdius Decimus Murderous, with Killotine:Evo being surprisingly knocked out after Tough As Nails shoved them down the pit before being disposed of in the same fashion by CDM
Fight 30
Salamander 3 is by far the most impressive in this fight, as after nearly but not quite destroying Seigmund and Seiglinde, he obliterates Vampire Killer, with the judges decision sending him and his quieter team mate Darkestar through.
Fight 31
The realie flippers ruled supreme in this fight, as Turbulence and Raging Knightmare tossed both of their vapour comrades out of the arena, with both booking their place in the final 128
Fight 32
Double Killa 2 becomes the next clusterbot to make it through, after using both halves to dispose of Omega 13, and more surprisingly Kali who disappoints in his first FFW appearance. GBH 2 makes it through on merit of staying out of the way.
Fight 33
Bulldog Breed continued his run of always making the main stages, while Squishiest joined him after the 2 had joined up to flip and crush Crushtacean and The Windmill
Fight 34
The Last Traction Hero and Mega Hurts : LT are the next 2 machines to bite the dust as Die Ceratops impresses and Axe To Fall looks menacing in the first glimpses of the FFW highlife
Fight 35
Alex can€™t complete another double qualification whammy as although Dante makes it through after wreaking pure carnage against Death Adder 3, while a heavily damaged Gravedigger surprises everyone by propping an impressive looking Allanon up against the wall
Fight 36
Mechavore and Bloody Tears 2 conspire, and in their conspiracy take out both the Towering Inferno and Jim Struts
Fight 37
Doc Ock QP gets through to the main draw after pitting Fat Boy Tin, while Revenge of the Revenge of the Bludgeonator hammers SUNCUST into submission
Fight 38
Biohazard disposes of one half of the Mario Brothers and then a very outdated SOR 1.0 while Gigabyte 1.5 disposes off the other half of the Nintendo characters
Fight 39
Deathstar and Flick of the Wrist make it into the main draw, after Dr. Evil is pitted and the series 5 version of Twister is ejected forcibly from the arena.
Fight 40
2 spinners become the last machines to make it into the final 128 as Drum Roll 2 makes into the main draw, while quite aptly, the Doomsday Project is the last machine to make it through, disposing of Mr. Slave 2 as well as Beavis and Bothead
Hope you enjoy reading these if you even bother. The main draw will be up momentarily.

I make no apologies for people with several robots in the same heat, or fighting each other in round 1 as this is the nature of the tournament. Fights will commence soon, so tactics and heat predictions as ever will be much appreciated.
HEAT A
ROUND 1
1) Achilles (1) VS Hexadecimator
I see a fairly easy victory for the champ here.
2) Heart of Fire VS Tornado
Tornado to scoop the thwacker into the Pit
3) GeForce 3.0 VS Gravity (17)
Two very similar bots here...but I think the seeds tendency to wheelie will be its downfall. GeForce for me.
4) CHAMELEON VS Cyclone Force 2.5
Another interchangeable? What are the odds? The main difference between us is that Chris creation has worse control. For this fight, Ill use the Anti-Flipper/Axe set-up and try to get the crushing arm into Cyclone Forces wheel housing. Once Ive got a good grip, dont let go and head for the Pit ASAP!
This looks set to be a cracking war, Mr Fowler. Ready when you are!
PREDICTIONS TIME!!! For ALL 16 heats. Get some eye drops ready.
Heat 1
Achilles (1) V Hexadecimator
Achilles, easily. Hexy-D cant exactly self-right from its back.
Heart of Fire V Tornado
Close, but Id go for Tornado.
Gravity (17) V Geforce 3.0
Flipping good fun! Id say GeForce because...well...it can get under Gravity easier.
Cyclone Force 2.5 V Chameleon
Chameleon because of its good rep and good control.
Heat winner: Achilles, easily.
Heat 2
All Scoop and No Stab Make Steve A Dull Boy (3) V MORD 2
MORD 2
SYNDOS V Enterprise
Erm...
Firestorm V (19) V M3
Firestorm V to flip M3 around the arena.
Thor V Whirligig 4.0
Thor to get the axe taken off before being reduced to metal fillings.
Heat winner: Whirligig 4.0, just because.
Heat 3
Barberous 2 n€™ a bit (5) V Sonic Boom
Sonic Boom.
Cacodemon V Sheer Heart Attack
Cacodemons low, but SHAs drum is very low, and SHA can easily ride around Cacodemons wedge. SHA for me.
Spawn Again (21) V Reptirron the 2nd
Spawn to pit Reptirron.
Hurricane Hugo V Big Nipper
Hugo.
Heat winner: Sheer Heart Attack
Heat 4
Wedga Revo (7) V Bloody Tears 2
Erm...Bloody Tears 2
Revenge of the Revenge of the Bludgeonator V Gigabyte 1.5
TEH BLUDGEONATOR!!!!111112
Son of Wedgie (23) V Fluffy
Fluffy to get tossed OOTA.
Flick of the Wrist V Drum Roll 2
Erm...Flick.
Heat winner: RotRotB.
Heat 5
F.P. 4.0 (9) V Darkestar
ForcePower is strong, but the design of Darkestar is also very powerful, plus the way the front is set up. From what I can see, FP will box rush Darkestar only to be hit by the disc. Darkestar ftw.
GBH 2 V Squishiest
Squishiest.
Tough As Nails (25) V A Night At The Bar
TAN will have a hard time grabbing something like that. If he can get at the sides, maybe, but Im going with A Night At The Bar.
Die-Ceratops Reinvertus V Dante
Die-Ceratops will probably flip Dante over and then pit it or toss it over the fence.
Heat winner: Dunno.
Heat 6
Dominator 2 (11) V Baldur Gamma
Baldur Gamma. No, seriously, Baldur. You think that axe is going to work?!
Split Decision V Toby The T-Ram Engine
Toby to be rammed. Split Decision ftw.
X-Terminator (27) V Mute
X-Terminator to exterminate Mute with the disc (this IS the S7 version, no?)
Leprosy Infection V Turbulence
Hmm...Ill go with Turbulence here.
Heat winner: Baldur Gamma or Turbulence.
Heat 7
Dantomkia (13) V Tammy the 2nd
Dantomkia.
Shovearound 2 V Pulverizer
Shovearound 2 to live up to its great rep and pulverize the Pulverizer.
Mace 2 (29) V Kat 3
Kat 3!
360 V Scorpion Bite
I think Ill say Scorpion Bite here.
Heat winner: Shovearound 2 or Scorpion Bite.
Heat 8
Pure Evil: Revenge of the Disc (15) V Corkscrew
Pure Evil to flip and destroy the Corkscrew.
Tails V Atomic
Actually, this is a pretty good match-up. Both have flippers, and have a rear weapon. Tails has the edge though because of the speed and effectiveness of the weapons.
Supreme Glory Gamma (31) V FBSDS
SGG is pretty sturdy against FBSs. Hell win it.
Flank Attack 2: DT V Agro 3.5
Flank Attack should win this because of the size of those claws; he can just grab im and take im to the housies or the pit.
Heat winner: Flank Attack or Pure Evil.
Heat 9
Seggy 3.2 (16) V Typhoon 2
The RW7 champ to be stamped on. Seggy ftw.
Metal Sonic Spin Dash V Y4
Y4 to flip MSSD repeatedly before pitting, feeding to housies, or tossing OOTA.
Overkill (32) V Phrizbee
Battlebots! But seeing as Overkill is the horizontal spinner killer, my money goes on him.
Yet Another Cut Above The Rest V Drilla Killa Renaissance
Ouch, toughie. Uh...Andy to edge out here.
Heat winner: Y4 or YACATR.
Heat 10
Dervish // (14) V Vlad 2.0
Dervish on a judges decision.
Behemoth V Scaramanga 2
Scaramanga. Doesnt need the smokescreen here. Just flip, and flip, and flip.
Voltronic (30) V Cosmic Thunder 2
Similarly shaped...but since Voltronic cant right itself, Cosmic Thunder ft easy w.
Slammer V v Hector
Two Alex bots?!? Uh...Slammer.
Heat winner: Dervish //
Heat 11
Manic Monsoon (12) V Manta
Manic Monsoon because its a seed, and because Manta isnt really effective.
Pussycat V Drillzilla
Pussycat will fall here because Drillzilla has the armour, the pushability, and the weight advantage.
Terrorhurtz (2 V Orka Mk. 4
Terrorhurtz to whack Orka into submission.
Slaying Mantis F V Aquarius
Ooh...another tough one. Ill say the former KFFT champ to clamp Aquarius and bring him to judgement.
Heat winner: Terrorhurtz or Manic Monsoon.
Heat 12
Hypno-Disc (10) V The Doomsday Project
Aw, I love Hypno-Disc. And Im going to cry as The Doomsday Project will destroy him. Sniff...
Biohazard V Deathstar
Err...pass?
Bigger Brother (26) V Chalkie
Bigger Brother!
Mechavore V Doc Ock QP
Mechavore because four lightweights against an uber-disc is almost impossible.
Heat winner: The Doomsday Project
Heat 13
Ramthrax 2 ( V Gravedigger
Ramthrax to beat Gravdigger in a unanimous judges decision.
Bulldog Breed V Axe To Fall
Axe To Fall is good, but Bulldog Breed can withstand axe blows. It cant, however, defend its rear, and that could be a problem. Axe To Fall, Id say.
S.O.R. 4.0 (24) V Back To Rock
SoR to slug Martijn a good un.
Salamander 3 V Double Killa
Salamander has improved greatly since his last revision. Im going with him.
Heat winner: One of Alexs bots.
Heat 14
Tengu 7 (6) V Raging Knightmare
Pingu.
Stalker 2 V Clawdius Decimus Murderous
Clawdius to do what it does best: clamp and pit.
Wild Thing (22) V Well That Takes The Ram Out Of Rambot
...WTF?! Pass.
Killeidascope V Love Bite 2.0
Killeidascope to be grabbed and pitted.
Heat winner: Pingu.
Heat 15
Wedge Devolution (4) V Killer Carrot 2
Is this even a match-up?
Beta V Axe-O-Lotl
Axe-O-Lotl ftw.
Black Panther (20) V Robot The Bruce
Black Panther.
Chaos 2 V Robotnik Twins
Chaos 2 is old, but not senile. Or maybe he is. Chaos 2 ftw.
Heat winner: Wedge Devo.
Heat 16
Storm 2 (2) V Jackson Wallop
Storm 2 to shove, whack, hammer, smash, crash, and any other synonym for ram.
Battle Raptor 4 V Artemis
Erm, pass.
Razer (1 V Wolf
To put it bluntly, Wolf sucks. Razer for the quick clamping and pitting. Unless he gets unreliable on us, which would suck.
Blizzard V Nightmare
How the heck do you fight that thing?!? Erm, Blizzard.
All my predictions. Great start Matty, hope it goes good!
To be honest, I cant really remember which set-ups I assigned. Assuming the set-ups I DID actually assign are what I think they are, Im going to use Set-Up number 2 (the Kan Opener claws) and try and fight fire with fire.
good job Matty, allow me to give my Heat 1 tactics
Heat 1
Achilles (1) V Hexadecimator
Achilles. Achilles indeed.
Heart of Fire V Tornado
Dunno, I beieve Tornados armour IS vulnerable to most vapours, though Heart of Fire is quite vulrenable to rammers... Tornado ftw
Gravity (17) V Geforce 3.0
GeForce 3.0, more solid than Gravity
Cyclone Force 2.5 V Chameleon
Chameleon, more solid than Cyclone Force
