Hi guys, Ive posted this in General Chatter but thought Id post it here too - have a read of the post below. I thought Id post it here too in the hope you guys would see it at youre the ideal people to come up with some innovative weapons for Russs robot and suggestions on how to beat Tornado. Dont get too technical in anything you send to them btw !

Weve got radio station Q103 (Part of the Musicradio group) not only promoting tickets for the XFM Featherweight Challenge this week, but the presenters of the show are having a go at building their own featherweight robot to take on Tornado... in the car park on Friday morning. (Weve forgotten to tell them Tornados a heavyweight !)...(or that thell be using the secret weapon that remained under the bench at Series 7!)

....anyway I digress. The presenters (Russ and Helen) have asked for suggestions about how to beat Tornado and what weapons they should put on their robot (which I dont think is going to be within the rules!). Hmmm, a 12kg robot built by amatures vs Tornado...

I am trying to think of how, realistically, a FW can beat a HW, but Im not getting it. a FW has won a fight against a HW (Demolisher vs Necromancer during a series qualifier), but that was because it outran/out manuevered it and rammed it, and won on aggression. So that would be the best option. something that is faster and more manuverable than tornado is, and a weapon that can cut the side panels, like a vertical disc.

Damaging isnt the way to go. A feathweight weapon would need all day to do enough damage to knock out a heavy, and battery life aside that wouldnt work. Well, maybe against a poor heavyweight, but not Tornado.

I think borrowing an idea from Alexs Ramthrax would work here. Make a 10 KG wedge robot with powerful drive, similar to the first Micro Mute, but make it a cluster bot and attach an ant-weight to the back. Drive the wedge under Tornado to beach it, then release the ant-weight. Tornado immobolised, and the ant runs free allowing the feathweight to win on a technicality

hmm.... this sounds like a job for the disturbed and erratic imagination of Alex!

Lets take a look: tornado is a rammer, and a toguh one at that, and therefore we are unable to damage it sufficiently, unless we get well under unable to push it and its doubtful that well be able to outmanouver or out accelerate it. Additionalyl althoguh to a heavy the drum is not a major issue it would decimate a robot of this weight.

The only major place it could potentially be damagedis the tyres, however realistically the only way to get the pwoer needed into a weapon to damage the wheels would be to use tornados own drive pwoer to tear wheels, so prehaps a wedge, with a powerful plate which can raise a sheet of small but toguh spieks through holes in the top, robot drives under tornado, spikes go up and tornado shreds its own wheels tryign to get off.

Basically whatever happens its goign to have to get udner the robot, preferably havign a wedge which goes to a point so that theres less surface area for wheels to get purchased on.

What I see is that Tornado is using the secret 4th weapon set-up which isnt best suited to a flipper, so this suggests something that runs only one way up...

...So build a basic FW flipper bot, which is fast enough to get around the side of Tornado and to flip it over and try to get it caught on its back so the weapon doesnt work, and try to flip it onto the side fences or something.

Assuming this weapon gave no sudden shocks, this would be my plan.

First the robot description,

Ali Spawn again shaped shell.
Actuator powered flipper - flipper width less than 3 hawkers - Stops at 90 degrees to the ground.
4 drill motors aligned like spawn again€™s wheels.


The plan.
First figure out where tornado€™s center of weight is.
Find out where mini spawn€™s centre of weight is
Ram straight underneath Tornado and align the center of gravities.
Lift the flipper.
Slowly carry Tornado for 10 secs is it?

Hopefully you will be left Tornado with 4 wheels off the floor with both weights pressing on mini spawn€™s wheels. It€™ll stall the motors eventually but it€™s only 10 seconds right?

In which case. Our little friend has won.

Only drawback is: Violent shocks could make Tornado fall off.
