  • VRW Mini-Tourney of Daftness

Okay, this is it. With NSCSB RPG 2 and VRW4 on hold(due to people not entering), I've decided to do something to go back to when I was a n00b.

Rules: I need 8 people to enter 1 robot.
    Wheeled robots: 100kg
    Tracked robots: 110kg
    Hoverbots/Blizzardbots(Screwbots): 125hg
    Shufflers: 150kg
    True walkers: 200kg

Basic FRA rules apply, except you can slip special things into the robots you enter with. Here are some examples:

    Joey McConnell's Nidus!!!

    Nidus
    WEIGHT: 100kgs
    DIMENSIONS: 110 x 75 x 45 cm
SHAPE: A bit odd, the front is wedge shaped and it resembles Razer, and there's a scoop at the rear, with an upwards extension in the middle for the weapon support, but other than that it looks like it's been compacted around the locations of its components - triangular panels ahoy!
COLOUR: Unpainted, so black and silver
DRIVE: 2 S28-150 Magmotors run at an average voltage of 24v, giving about 6hp of drive power; this is supplied by a bioengineered set of side and top panels that contain chloroplasts impregnated into the fabric of the carbon fibre, which allow the robot to photosynthesize and thus generate its own electricity following a complex process involving the sugar from the photosynthesis and then several Sabatier reactions contained in a carbon cell.
    SPEED: 20mph
GROUND CLEARANCE: The front is 0 due to the front wedge, the rear is 0 as the scoop is sprung loosely to the floor, the sides are 6mm
ARMOUR: Stainless steel base (5-10mm) and weaponry subframe (3mm wall 25mm box section with 2mm sheet on front wedge), the rest is 4mm carbon fibre panels
WEAPONS: A pneumatically actuated arm constructed of stainless steel and carbon fibre; pivoted towards the rear of the machine, the front end goes horizontally and then comes down in a high carbon steel sharpened point, at the rear it widens out into a full width scoop. Basically, in a similar manner to Cronos this is a pneumatic crusher and flipper, but unlike Cronos it is run from full pressure CO2 in a single 2kg cylinder and two large buffertanks feeding four inlet valves into a 300mm bore/140mm stroke 7075 aluminium full pressure ram, which is connected to the weapon behind its pivot and delivers somewhere in the region of 30 tonnes of force at the ram, levered down to 15-18 tonnes at the tip of the crusher and a similar amount of force on the flipper...the caveat of course being that since this is pneumatic it acts extremely fast. The arm is retracted using elastic rather than using more gas; this makes the gas supply last longer than it would otherwise.
Basically, if you get caught by the front end, unless your armour is well braced fairly thick (5mm+) Hardox or titanium/vanadium alloy, you're getting crushed. Lesser armours (polycarb, thin ti, aluminium) may as well not be there with the force generated and concentrated into the tip. If you escape the front but get caught by the rear, you will get flipped...hmm...30 tonnes of force at the ram, fair amount of lift on the scoop...how high are the arena ceilings?
SRIMECH: Hidden inside the main weapon arm is a stainless steel srimech arm, that moves the opposite direction to the rest of the weapon when activated. This is actuated by cables and the pivots are arranged such that it will still have most of its movement when the gas supply is running low (after 4-6 uses) so it can still selfright when the weapon's flagging.
NOTES: Probably the most powerful crusher or flipper ever devised in fanfic, definitely the most overkill.
STRENGTHS: If it catches you, you are dead
    WEAKNESSES: Lack of sunlight
    Danny Bailey's Quantum!!!

    Name - Quantum

    Shape - Square

    Weight - 100 Kilogram

    Speed - 30 mph

    Ground Clearance: 0mm with skirts.

Power - 4 LEM130s. thanks to recent advances in quantum mechanics, the LEMs are actually outside the bot, and only the power is inside
Movement - Four solid Unobtainium wheels.

    Turning Circle - Zero

Weaponry - Quantum Disc. This disc, again thanks to quantum mechanics that are SO ADVANCED you wouldn't begin to understand it, can cause a total existence failure to the bot it impacts with. It also has 100kj power
Armour - 2CM Unobtanium. This is an element that's incredibly light to start with as well as stronger than hardox, and I've atomically altered it to be better.
    Srimech - invertible
    And AJ's Sun of Rippo!!!

    Name: Sun of Rippo
    Shape: Wooden circular.
    Dimensions: 20x20x20 x 1000mm
    Weight: 500000 carats
Drive: 2x Jiang Minis motors. They are petrol powered motors weighing just 1kg each and can run for 10 minutes on just 1 millilitre of petrol. This produces around 200hp. The robot drives on two wheels made of indestructibulum, which are impervious to damage. They also provide ultimate traction using limpet technology.
    Speed: 15.64 knots
Ground Clearance: 0.001 micrometers, but as this is invisible to the human eye, I€™ll just say it€™s 5mm.
Skirting: It wears a kilt in the McGregor tartan.
Armour: It uses a material known as Low Density Hardox, which is around as light as polycarbonate but has the tensile strength of pure iron. I have around 30mm thick all over. It is impossible to shatter or take chunks out of. It has a property known as heartofskadium, which allows the armour to be instantly regenerated once damaged. Behind this armour is 40mm of oxygen to withstand impacts.
Weapon: A spinning bar that is 20x2mm. It is powered by a black hole generator and spins at around 10,000,000rpm as it is geared 2:1. The black hole runs off 1x 9v battery, which has a self-charging system built in; basically meaning the weapon can never stop spinning. It€™s secondary weapon is a clusterbot consisting of Mass Destruction Ultimate and CrankShafted which both come out of the black hole in times of desperate need. They are shaped like /\/\/\/\/\ to cause more damage.
Self-righting mechanism: It has a linear actuator powered by a self-righting bar.
Strengths: It has no weaknesses, has a little red flashing light on top
Weaknesses: Paul won€™t be getting any weaknesses
    Well, you get the picture.

Simply, this tourney will consist of these impossible-in-real-life robots going against each other for the Unobtainium cup. What? You're flabbergasted that I'm actually doing this? Well stop being flabbergasted and start entering!!!

    Re: VRW Mini-Tourney of Daftness

    I'll enter.

    Serious Slammer

    Weight: 100kg
    Colour: Seriously Green
    Shape: Seriously Cylindrical
    Dimensions: 85 X 85 X 19
Armour: Seriously 4mm Low Density Hardox Everywhere
    Power: 2 X Seriously Powerful LEM-130€™s @ 36v powered by several NiCad€™s
    Speed: Seriously 15 mph
    Ground Clearence: Seriously 6mm
Weapon: A seriously powerful ring spinner powered by a seriously powerful LEM-130, spinning at a serious 2000RPM. It has four large teeth about 20cm long that are shaped like Pussycat€™s blade and is capable of serious damage to another robot. The teeth are made of Low Density Hardox.
    Srimech: Seriously invertible
Strengths: Can cause a lot of SERIOUS damage
    Weakness: None hopefully

    Hope I win!

      Re: VRW Mini-Tourney of Daftness

      Anyone else?

And just for the heck of it, I might as well enter my own competition(due to things probably ending up badly messed up)...

      Anubis
      Weight: 100kg
Shape: An invertible box with wedges, and a pair of Diesector-style jaws at the front.
      Colour: Gold
      Dimensions: 90cm x 60cm x 15cm
Drive: 4 Black hole generators, powered by 4x 1.5v AA batteries. Each black hole generator powers 1 wheel.
Locomotion: 4 externally mounted solid Unobtanium wheels.
Armour: 30mm Cyrilium/Low Density Hardox/Unobtanium alloy, thereby making it near-invincible. The plan is to keep the weight down, so the weapon can be more powerful.
Speed: 25-50mph (It has variable top speeds: 25mph gives me near-infinite pushing ability, while 50mph gives me high speed.)
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front due to claw, and 0.00000000000000001mm ground clearance at sides and rear. The robot is virtually unflippable.
      Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: The weapon is a pair of Diesector-style pincers at the front, except they're hydraulically powered. The hydraulic power is provided by a customized pump powered by a Black Hole Generator. The claws can crush into a robot in less then 0.5 seconds, and can crush into thick Low Density Hardox, thick Unobtainium, or infinite titanium/aluminum/Hardox/Polycarb.
      Srimech: Invertible
Strengths: Near-infinite crushing ability, invincible wheels, (Near)infinite pushing power(if geared to go at 25mph), high speed(if geared to go at 50mph), (Near)Invincible armor, (Near)Impossible to flip.
Weaknesses: Might be torn apart by a spinner at 100000kjs.
Bio: The god of Egypt has returned! With near invincible armor, uber-powerful pincers, very good pushing power, and near inflippability, Anubis is sure to drag some bots to the Underworld.

        Re: VRW Mini-Tourney of Daftness

OKAY! :P You asked for it...

        Metal Demon Evo:

        Weight: 100kg
        Colour: Matt dull red
Shape: Extremely low profile box similar to Biohazard
        Dimensions: 85 X 65 X 10
Armour: Quark degenerate matter (basically the intermediate step between a neutron star and black hole) 10mm thick, stabilised and lightened by alloying with non-baryonic material which has negative mass. Net mass of the armour is similar to if it were HDPE.
Power: 4x S28-4,000,000 Magmotors (room temperature superconducting version) powered from a Casimir effect (zero point energy) power generator. Wheels are superconducting magnetic rings which give the robot virtually unlimited downforce, variable as required.
Speed: Upwards of several hundred mph - in battle, more like 20 except for ramming purposes.
Ground Clearence: Variable 0-16mm controlled by active suspension.
Weapon: An axe powered by a linear induction motor (read: railgun) through a rack and pinion mechanism. The axe head is made from the same material as the armour and weighs 6.66kg - the axe at full power travels at relativistic speeds (a significant fraction of the speed of light c) and thus releases as much energy on impact as a medium sized tactical nuclear warhead. The point of the axe is so narrow (near-infinitely so thanks to the quark degenerate material it is comprised of; far smaller than an atom) that the energy density on impact is sufficient to stand a not insignificant chance of causing the very fabric of spacetime to tunnel to a lower energy average state. This vacuum metastability event would expand unstoppably at the speed of light outwards from its point of nucleation - effectively destroying the entire universe.
Srimech: The axe, running at reduced power.
Strengths: Effectively invulnerable, unstoppably powerful weapon.
Weakness: Not insignificant chance of self-destruction.

            Re: VRW Mini-Tourney of Daftness

Okay, after realizing that I have way too much to do here, I've decided that the entry spots have been filled.

Serious Slammer vs Metal Demon Evo

Tactics, predictions... You know what? I'm tired of consistently saying that, so I'll just let you know that that will be in effect, even though I won't be posting it.

Tactics: SMASH INTO IT, ripping the axe off, and be all over Metal Demon Evo like a pack of termites.

              Good luck Nick.

                Re: VRW Mini-Tourney of Daftness

Erm...just drive into him and let him break himself I guess, as the armour is impenetrable? It's tougher than a neutron star, guys...

If necessary, hit him with the axe, which strikes with more force than a reasonable size meteorite.

Maybe I should use the blunt axe head, rather than the ~10^-18m tip one...blowing up the universe wouldn't be quite such a good idea I fear.

                  Time for the battle...

FROM PARTS UNKNOWN, METAL DEMON EVO!!!

We've already seen them in ACTILWI, but now let's see how they do in the arena.

                  FROM CANADA, SERIOUS SLAMMER!!!

A powerful spinning blade powered by an LEM-130 will destroy anything near. However, the armour is weak...

                  3..2..1..Activate!!!

In comes Metal Demon, ramming into Serious Slammer, and coming down with the blunt axehead...

                  BOOM!!!

When the smoke clears, all that's left of Serious Slammer is 1 of the blades, which falls limply to the ground...

METAL DEMON EVO WINS THE MTOD!!!
