  • VRW Series 4 Sign-ups

Okay people. Seeing as VRW series 3 will be completed very, very soon*, I might as well do this...

*Note: As in a couple of moments ago.

    A BRIEF HISTORY OF VRW
The first VRW appeared during my first stay here. All sorts of crazy robots were entered into the competition, but the realie Lightning managed to win the first wars, even though the wars died due to a hypo.

The second wars appeared a bit later. The biggest problem was that there were really 2 Second Wars, due to everyone hating me back then. Recently, I merged the two wars, and Joey McConnell's Coinst managed to win against Storm II, if only due to the fact that the tourney was hypoed*.

*Note: The Hypo was not accepted by Leo and Joey and therefore may not be counted as fact.

The third wars was the best yet. Although the number of bots had decreased to 16, the carnage was bolstered due to me actually writing all the fights, not to mention some interesting tactic rants from Samuel Park... :P In a very interesting final, Samuel Park's Whiplash managed to strike, and win despite the fact that Storm II shoved it OOTA due to a damaged door. The judges claimed that Whiplash won, and that's the way it was.

Now, will Whiplash be able to hold on to the not that impressive trophy, and prove to the world that they are the VRW Champions? Only you can find out, by entering!

Rules: I need 12 people to enter 8 robots apiece, for a total of 96 robots.

    As for the finer rules:

    Flying Robots: Banned
    Clusterbots: Up to 5 parts
    Passive Weapon Bots: Allowed
    Weight:
    Normal: up to 100kg
    Tracked: up to 110kg
    Hoverbot*: 125kg
    Shuffler/Miscellaneous: up to 150kg
    True Walker: up to 200kg

    * Note: Hoverbot = A robot that uses an inflated rubber underbelly to glide across the floor with help from a fan, much like a hovercraft.

    Seeds:

    1: Whiplash
    2: Storm II
    3: Apocalypse II
    4: Ramminator Evilution
    5: System Shock V: Hex
    6: Maximum Genocide
    7: Brutalis 2.1
8: The 2nd Revenge of Black Death
    9: Megabyte
    10: CroOKeD
    11*: Lightning
    12*: Iron Awe 5
    13*: Nitro Gene 5.0
    14*: WORCK
    15*: Lockjaw Epidemic
    16*: Shredder Evolution
    17*: Cassius II
    18*: Terrorhurtz
    19*: Beta-Rex
    20*: D.V.D: The Sequel

*Note: Seeds 11-20 were chosen due to their performance in the hypoed VRW Series 2.

Spots can be reserved for 1 week, then BOOM!!! They're open again.

    Re: VRW Series 4 Sign-ups

I said I would enter, and I stand by that.

    Next Stop, Jupiter (Replacing Thanatos)

    Weight: 100kg
Shape: Warrior SKF, with a Firestorm-style wedge extension on the front.
Colour: Colours of the planet Jupiter, duh.
    Dimensions: 100 X 81 X 21 cm
Power: 2 X LEM-130's @ 36v, powered by several NiCad Batteries, shock-proofed with polyurethane rubber.
Wheels: 2 X Aluminium Wheels with Urethane Rubber for superb grip
Armour: 3.5mm Hardox for the wedge, 7mm Ti/V for top and bottom, 5mm hardox for the rim
    Speed: Roughly 13 mph
Ground Clearence: Obviously 0mm for the front, and 6mm for anywhere else
Turning Circle: Zero... how many times do I have to tell you guys?!
Weapon: A nasty 27kg spinning rim powered by an LEM-130 Lynch, and spinning at 2000RPM. It should reach this speed in about two seconds. It has 8 X hardox teeth on board. (Four on top, Four on Bottom) The rim can deliver some VERY nasty damage to another opponent. It can slice through titanium, and dent hardox without any problems. The motor mounts are shock-proofed with urethane rubber to avoid damage to itself during its attacks. (Of course shock-proofing the whole thing is out of the question ) The rim can also transfer its energy to the front kinetic flipper, thanks to a clutch. This flipper has a wedge extension which is nearly impossible to get under. The flipper can also throw robots with HUGE force. Can you say, OOTA?!
Srimech: Yes, it can run inverted... BUT the flipper can right the robot if needed.
Strengths: Can cause some EXTREME damage, Powerful Flipper, Heavily Shock-Proofed, A good all-rounder.
    Weaknesses: A bit slow

    Whiplash

    Weight: 100kg
Body Shape: Pentagonal Pyramid with skirts
    Dimensions: 100 X 85 X 38
Power: 2 X LEM-130's at 36v powered by several NiCads
Tyres: 4 X Asmaprene Urethane Rubber Tyres
    Speed: 15 mph
    Armour: 4mm Hardox
Ground Clearence: 0mm with skirts, and 5mm without skirts
    Weapon 1: SHEER PUSHING POWER
Weapon 2: At the front there is a 7kg Terrorhurtz-Like BattleAxe (made out of hardox, even the handle) powered by 2 X 2kg CO2 Tanks, 200 PSI, diamond tipped, has over 1500 joules of force when it comes down. It can also attack from both ends. Heavily Shock-Proofed, as well.
Srimech: The axe can easily self-right it (even when it's on its side), and it can also self-right even after the axe has fired, ala Killerhurtz.
Strengths: PSYCHOTIC AXE AND PUSHING POWER
Weaknesses: NONE AT ALL! (Except for Limited Co2)

    Walk Don't Run 5

    Weight: 110kg.
Body Shape: Cylinder body, with a square spinning rim
Colour: Forest Green Weapon, Gray for top and bottom.
    Dimensions: 95 X 95 X 27.
    Drive: 2 X LEM-130's @ 36v powered by 6 X NiCad Batteries.
    Top Speed: 8 mph
Feet: 4 X Shuffling Pads with Asmaprene urethane rubber, and this prevents WDR from being flung away ala Typhoon.
Armour: 9mm Titanium for the base and top, 4mm Hardox for the ring spinner.
    Ground Clearence: 5mm all around.
Weapon: 30kg Square Spinning Rim, spinning at about 1300RPM, powered by a LEM-130, and has 4 X 1kg Hypno-Disc (Series 4 version) style teeth, curved and blunt to tear armour, or shock kill an opponent. As for shock-proofing, there is 8.5mm worth of rubber around the ring, and 7mm of PU foam inside, as well.
    Srimech: Invertible.
    Strengfths: Deadly Weapon, Heavily Armoured.
    Weaknesses: Hates Flippers.

    Neo-Mecha

    Weight: 100kg
Shape: Ankle Biter (Battlebots 3.0 Version)... with side skirts
Colour: Jet Black for the front and rear, Prussian Blue anywhere else
    Dimensions: 100 X 77 X 36
    Power: 2 X LEM-130's @ 36v powered by several NiCad's, shock-mounted.
Wheels: 2 X Aluminium Wheels with Asmaprene Urethane covering
    Speed: 15 mph
    Armour: 3.25mm Hardox
Ground Clearence: 0mm on the sides due to skirts, and on the back. 6mm anywhere else (Including without skirts)
Turning Circle: Aw, come on, you know this is zero.
Weapon: 27kg Front Vertical Spinning Disc made from laser cut titanium, powered by 2 X LEM-130. This also has 2 Hardox teeth curved upwards, and it will spin at 3600RPM. Shock-Mounted as well.
Srimech: At the rear, there is a linear actuated bar, and it can right the robot in 1 second.
Strengths: Powerful Weapon, Decent Pushing Power, Fast and effective srimech
Weaknesses: Hopefully, there is none. XD

    Blue Hurricane

    Weight: 100kg
    Shape: Disc
    Dimensions: 88 X 88 X 27
Colour: Royal Blue for the sides, and a nice shade of midnight blue for the top and bottom.
    Power: 2 X LEM-130's @ 36v, with a couple of NiCad Batteries.
Wheels: Two Aluminium Wheels with a nice layer of Asmaprene Urethane on it.
Armour: 3.25mm Hardox for top and bottom, and 11mm Grade 5 Titanium for the sides.
    Top Speed: 13 mph
    Ground Clearence: 5mm Everywhere.
Turning Circle: Zero! Need I say more?!
Weapon: Ok, the weapon is a nasty 32kg spinning rim, which is made out of 11mm Grade 5 Titanium, with 4 X Tungsten-tipped teeth. (2 teeth on bottom, and 2 on top) The teeth are all made out of hardox, and also curved to rip off skirts and panels with ease. It also runs on a single LEM-130 Lynch, and spins at about 2000RPM. This can rip through titanium and dent hardox quite easily. Shock-Proofed to protect itself from attacks.
    Srimech: Invertible
Strengths: Can cause a lot of damage
Weaknesses: Not the best pushing power by a long shot

The 2nd Revenge of Black Death

    Weight: 100kg
Shape: Very low wedge with a Firestorm style wedge extension on the front
    Colour: Black Body, Blue Flipper
    Dimensions: 100 X 75 X 27
    Power: 2 X Bosch 750's @ 36v powered by a couple of NiCad batteries
    Top Speed: 13 mph
Tyres: 2 X Foam-Packed Aluminium Tyres with urethane rubber on it for more grip
    Armour: 3.25mm Hardox everywhere
Ground Clearence: Zero on the front, and 3mm on the sides, and 5.8mm on the rear
Weapon: The weapon here is a flipper similar to Envy (forward hinged ), powered by 2 X 2kg Co2 Tanks. The power also matches Envy. It's capable of bringing out 30 to 32 flips and can flip up to 900kg. At the back, there is an 8kg vertical disc that's powered by an S28-400. It has 3 teeth on it to rip and tear out skirts/panels, and spins at 5000 RPM.
Sriemech: Flipper. Side spikes can also stop the robot from getting beached.
Strengths: Pretty Good Flipper, Deadly Disc, Nearly Impossible to Get under from front, Decent Pusher
    Weaknesses: Limited CO2, as always.

I will also enter Storm 2 and Envy.

    Good luck with this, Mark.

        Re: VRW Series 4 Sign-ups

And just o if anyone wants to see how screwed up and f*cked up this tourney was in its 2 other incarnations, look at these:

Notice: The first 4 seeds are the heat final winners.

The second 4 seeds are the heat final losers.

And seeds 9 and 10 are, who I feel, are the best 2 of the 8 round 1 losing robots.

right, but then wouldnt that mean that i would have a lower seeding than 20-11? seeing as they were the best (in your view) of VWR hypo...

Yes, but that list was outdated, and to be honest, the VRW seeds are that way because I did a crappy job with the other ones, and therefore I wanted the robots from the actually finished series to be the top seeds.

Shape: Warrior SKF, with a Firestorm-style wedge extension on the front.
Colour: Colours of the planet Jupiter, duh.
                      Dimensions: 100 X 81 X 21 cm
                      Power: 2 X LEM-130's @ 36v, powered by several NiCad Batteries, shock-mounted
Wheels: 2 X Aluminium Wheels with Polyurethane Rubber for superb grip
Armour: 3.5mm Hardox for the wedge, 7mm Ti/V for top and bottom, 5mm hardox for the rim
                      Speed: Roughly 13 mph
Ground Clearence: Obviously 0mm for the front, and 6mm for anywhere else
Turning Circle: Zero... how many times do I have to tell you guys?!
Weapon: A nasty 27kg spinning rim powered by an LEM-130, and spinning at 2500RPM. It should reach this speed in about two seconds. It has 12 X hardox teeth on board. (Six on top, Six on Bottom) The rim can deliver some VERY nasty damage to another opponent. It can slice through titanium, and dent hardox without any problems. The motor mounts are shock-mounted to avoid damage to itself during its attacks. (Of course shock-proofing the whole thing is out of the question) The rim can also transfer its energy to the front kinetic flipper, thanks to a clutch. This flipper has a wedge extension which is nearly impossible to get under. The flipper can also throw robots with HUGE force. Can you say, OOTA?!
Srimech: Yes, it can run inverted... BUT the flipper can right the robot if needed.
Strengths: Can cause some EXTREME damage, Powerful Flipper, Shock-Proofed, A good all-rounder.
                      Weaknesses: A bit slow

Again, I am sorry for changing the stats so fast.

No problem. Since I probably won't be starting this until summer(due to other people having finals, personal and family issues, and other stuff), I might as well allow people to update their stats...

                          I forgot the arena.

It is a massive 15m x 15m square arena, partially inspired by Martijn's near-wall-less arena in the fact that the walls are only 10cm high. There are 4 CPZs in the corners, with the walls raised to 1m from the corner to the edge of the red line which marks how far the house robot's domain is. There's a 1m x 1m pit in the middle of the arena, and the bumper to release it is in the southwest corner. the northeast corner is always occupied by the Guardian, our refbot, and the other 2 corners are occupied by two of these house robots:

                          Battleaxe
                          Major Damage
                          Gripper
                          Shunt
                          Matilda
                          Magnavox
                          Sgt. Bash
                          Dead Metal
                          Sir Killalot
                          Mr. Psycho
                          Growler
                          Cassius Chrome

There is no drop zone, no floor flipper, and no hazards, other than the pit.

And in the vain hope of trying to get competitors now, is everyone too scared to face Samuel for the title?*

*Note: While I know this isn't true, I'm using it as a psychological ploy to convince people to enter.
