Why not enter Splinter, which is nothing like the series 4 version because that one was destroyed?

Then I will pick Wild Thing, just because I think the Adams family got one too many judges decisions against them.

OK, so who was that wedge-shaped Robot with the lance on the arm who lost in the SEMI-FINALS to Hypno-Disc?

Who was that wedge shaped robot with the horizontal flywheel who lost in the SEMI-FINALS to Chaos 2?

And what about that arrow-shaped machine from Series 6, who lost the SEMI-FINALS to Razer?

How does that work? The rules quite clearly say no semi-finalists upwards, so why are you picking one that never failed to get that far? Do S4-6 suddenly not count?

              Re: Martijn's little underdog tournament!

You know what? I'm not entering at all. I just picked a few robots I happen to like but if I am not going check every time how far they made it.

                Re: Martijn's little underdog tournament!

What about Demon, the first robot entered by the Wild Thing guys (Nick Adams was there)

Still looking for information about Guzunderbot, since I can't remember a thing about it

I have a funny feeling it came from Scotland

I might replace it, seeing as how rubbish it was against General Carnage, but, who knows

                    Re: Martijn's little underdog tournament!

To be fair they're of very similar design (the only real change was the move to pneumatics for the weapons, and the addition of the axe) and although final discretion is with Marti I think they would be considered as being too like each other to be allowed?

Leo, this is supposed to be for non series semi finalists only, dunno if you missed that bit?

                      Re: Martijn's little underdog tournament!

Well, to be honest, Leo could put as his argument that they aren't alike, since the original Splinter was destroyed by Hypno-Disc. Not to mention that the new Splinter lost in round 2 of Series 5 to Bigger Brother, and failed to qualify for Series 6...

Destroyed or not, it doesn't really matter...

Cassius II was a completely new machine by Rex (the motors, batteries, pneumatics, chassis, etc. were all new, both robots are still displayed side by side semi-regularly at certain events I believe) just like the 'new' Splinter was - allegedly - a completely new machine with new components (although I find it hard to believe every single component couldn't be reused in some form, and roboteers are prolific reusers of parts) yet Marti suggests above that it still wouldn't be allowed due to being too similar, and logic would suggest that Splinter would also be too similar.

Now, if you were to enter the Splinter duo's previous machine (Ivanhoe) then you'd have more of a case, but I strongly think that Marti would consider both Splinters 'not significantly different' in the same way that both Cassii are 'not significantly different'. You might have an argument but it'd be a very weak one.

                            Does it matter?

But still, there are options open. Take Steg-O-Saw-Us. That was a Grand Finalist, and thus can't be entered. Steg 2 also doesn't apply...but what about 3 Stegs to Heaven?

What we have here are three completely different robots, and one of them (as it turns out, the only one 100~ kilos) was not a semi-finalist.

A last hope, Leo: pick Facet (S3). The one made by the Scrapper and GBH team.

He could get away with picking GBH 2, seeing as its completely different from GBH 1.
