I have finally done my own votes...

Most Original Design - I quite like the idea of Traffic Warden, it€™s a different take on the usual horizontal crusher designs.
Best Design - I€™d say Gabriel IV, a lot of work has gone into that design.
Most Overrated Vapourbot - I don€™t actually think there is one.
Most Underrated Vapourbot - Nitro-Gene 5.0 has a lot of potential with a few tweaks.
Most Original Designer - I€™ll have to split a vote between Joey and Alex, as they have both come up with some cool ideas this year.
Best Designer - I€™ll go for Kody, all of his designs are strong in so many areas.
Most Overrated Vapourboteer - As always, I€™m not allowed to vote on this one.
Most Underrated Vapourboteer - Definitely Richard, it is about time he won something big.
Most Improved Vapourboteer - Sam has improved both his vapourbots and his battles lately, so he gets my vote.
Idiot of the Year - Tim gets an honourable mention, but this year it has to go to Mark Elam€¦
Best Sportsman - I€™d like to thank Leo for volunteering to be our moderator, so he gets my vote.
Best Render - There has been so many great renders this year, but I think my favourite was Alex€™s render of Black Panther.
Funniest Moment - There has been way too many, I haven€™t stopped laughing all year. But the unveiling of Fairground Killride has to be one of the best.
Biggest Surprise of the Year - The influx of newcomers! In the past 12 months we have had over 10 newcomers arrive, some good, some not so good€¦ Lets hope the trend continues in 2009.
Best Custom House Robot - I think Charon is pretty cool.
Best Custom Arena - Bloody Low Walls! It was refreshing to compete in a different styled arena for once.
Best Comedy Bot - Wikipedibot!
Best Clusterbot - This one is tough€¦ I€™ll go for With or Without You. But credit goes to Door Stops and Sacrifice as well.
Best Interchangeable Robot - Macduff the 4th is very nice.
Best Rammer - I€™ll say Flick of the Wrist here.
Best Walker - Hex Appeal is looking good€¦ WARGH!
Best Shuffler - Definitely Whirligig 4.5!
Best Tracked - As good as Darkestar has done recently, my vote is going to Sheer Drunk Attack.
Best Front Hinged Flipper - Gabriel IV is probably the best ever front-hinged flipper vapourbot.
Best Rear Hinged Flipper - Wedge Devolution is still the best around in this category.
Best Axe - Black Panther seems to be getting better and better all the time.
Best Horizontal Spinner - Eye of Ran is pretty good.
Best Vertical Spinner - I€™ll choose Tira V.
Best Saw - Spin Dash Unleashed, of course!
Best Full Body Spinner / Ring Spinner / Translational Spinner - Tengu VII.
Best Horizontal Crusher - Super Gore Revo looks very good.
Best Vertical Crusher - Probably Nidhogg Evo here.
Best Miscellaneous Weapon - Cobalt is pretty cool.
Most Effective Weapon - Tengu always does what it€™s supposed too.
Best RPG - The Oddestsey.
Best Battle - SOR X vs. The May Tracks Has You in Velociraptors FanFic Tournament: The Comeback - fantastic stuff.
Best New Writer - Very difficult€¦ but I€™ll go with Liam Eliot, because Robot Smash II was great and quick.
Best New Tournament - I think the Mechanical Maelstrom series looks very promising, so I€™ll go for that.
Best Writer - Mr. Kody Kunz! Apart from the occasional epic writers block, there€™s nobody better at writing. Whether that€™s majors, minors, RPGs, things of randomness - it€™s always guaranteed to be top quality.
Best Alternative Event - The EOTR Annihilator was pretty good.
Best Minor Tournament - I€™ll have to split a vote between VFT: The Comeback and the C&B Mini Tournament of Death, both were fantastic!
Best Major Tournament - Robot Smash II was well written and done quickly.
Best Team - Team Varying Every Day for me, lots of interesting designs.
Best New Vapourbot - Thiwon! Gabriel IV gets my vote, it€™s very well designed and pretty successful already.
Best New Vapourboteer - There€™s been lots of great newcomers this year, but one stands out above the rest. Joey McConnell is not just the best newcomer this year, but one of the best vapourboteers ever.
Best Vapourboteer of 2008 - Martijn Benschop! Great sportsmanship, great designs, lots of success.
Best Vapourbot of 2008 - Definitely Sheer Heart Attack 2, it€™s won a major and a minor this year, and is a nice design.
Vapourboteer Hall of Fame - For the above reasons, Martijn Benschop.
Vapourbot Hall of Fame - The Crashing Bore is my first vote, even though it€™s retired now, it was one of the original vapourbots and has had great success ever since. My second vote goes to Mass Disctruction Ultimate, I can€™t believe nobody has voted for that yet! Probably the most successful and feared vapourbot ever, a great concept. My third and final vote goes to Wedge Devolution. So simple and yet so effective, always manages to rack up wins.

Vapourboteer Hall of Fame: A well deserved winner this year, congratulations Martijn Benschop! One of a few people who fought to keep vapourbots alive in 2006. He has gone on to be a great sportsman, a quality writer and an innovative and successful designer. Well done, Marti!
Vapourbot Hall of Fame: With 5 votes, the first to be inducted into the Vapourbot Hall of Fame is Wedge Devolution. The simple yet brilliantly effective veteran design has seen it achieve great success over the years. So that Wedge Devo doesn€™t get too lonely, it has been agreed that the runners up will also be inducted this year. So with 4 votes, the second vapourbot to be inducted is my own Son of Ripper. Another classic all rounder design that has achieved success over the years. Also with 4 votes is Alex€™s design Achilles with it€™s interchangeable pneumatic and hydraulic flipper weapon.

...wow...If the truth be told Id be lying if I said I didnt expect to pick up one or two awards, being the arrogant sod on the inside that I am, but...TEN?! Have you all gone mad?

Seriously, it really has touched me that I won or helped win the second highest amount of awards this year, particularly with some of the things people have been saying to me with their votes and on MSN, I honestly feel very warm and fuzzy inside that people somehow hold me in such high regard...thanks so much to all those who voted for me, even (and perhaps particularly) those who voted me for categories I didnt win like Best Sportsman and Best Vapourboteer. I have no idea why youd want to, but thanks for considering me.
And also thanks to all of you for accepting me into the community in the way you have, its not only got me involved in vapourbots and improved my knowledge of robotics, its got me involved in real robot construction as well and for that Im incredibly grateful.

I have to give special credit to Dan Stickler for inspiring and co designing Hex Appeal as well, the award for thats probably more for you than it is for me.

Well done to everyone whos won an award, or come close, and a very merry Christmas one and all.

Someone pinch me. Ow! Thank you. ...its not a dream...

The world has truly gone mad.

But really, Im...honestly, I actually feel like crying. Honest to goodness. I hardly expected to get even ONE award, then I see the first few votes, and Im incredibly startled. You guys...thanks so much.

I have to thank the following people for their special support:

AJ - for trying (though failing) to create the greatest tournament to date, and for all the awesome ramblings and great moments on MSN. You can never have enough drinks, buddy. Cheers. :wink:

Joey - for criticizing and helping with my designs, and just generally being yourself. Its that attitude that really makes me comfortable talking with you, dude, strange though it may seem.

Martijn - for also criticizing and helping with my designs, and for pretty much being the ultimate sportsman in my eyes, always keeping the peace and helping me keep my head on, kudos.

Alex Holt - for getting me started on using 3D Studio Max in the first place, and for helping me with some renders as well.

Chezza, Tracy - for actually trying out vapourbots in the first place; Chezza now has an award, and Tracys been nominated. Youve made me proud, you two. :wink:
