    Mechanical Maelstrom Season 2.0

    Tactics...been away for a bit so just flip Neo-Mecha into various obstacles while attempting to avoid said obstacles myself. Also watch Sams tactics fail as Gabriel technically has no front due to the shape, and watch his attempts to tear the crap out of 7mm HDPE and 5/10mm Ti/V alloy fail miserably.

      Back to Rock III vs. The Zodiac

      Both robots move off the mark as activate sounds across the arena and The Zodiac is almost immediately getting up to speed as those four internal magmotors that spin the shell do so, and dangerously fast as the robot is quickly up to speed. Martijn though has come straight on the attack and rams The Zodiac before it reaches maximum potency and lifts it up and over, stopping the spinning and then pushing forward to ram The Zodiac against the spike strip! Kody fires the pneumatic srimech and gets the robot back onto its wheels, the four of which are also powered by magmotors, but there are two of them here compared to four in the weapon. This more than adequate drive allows The Zodiac to drive away from Back to Rock III€™s oncoming attack and once again the spinning shell is getting up to high speed, and although Martijn goes on the attack with the scoop again this time Kody is able to reach full speed before Back to Rock gets near The Zodiac, who smashes into the front plough, shattering the saw blade and buckling the scoop!

      Back to Rock is sent spinning away, dazed and weaponless before turning and coming back on the attack and using the speed advantage to slam into The Zodiac, taking a hit from the spinner as the rest of the scoop is torn clean off, but Martijn€™s machine isn€™t knocked away by this attack and rams The Zodiac into the spike strip, gunning the lynch motors in the drive and pinning Kody€™s full body spinner there for a few moments before reversing after the judges force it to let The Zodiac go. And in under 2 seconds the magmotors inside The Zodiac have the spinning shell appearing as a blur before the black Megabyte-shaped robot slams into Back to Rock III for the third time in this match, finally dealing a killing blow as the teeth rip another gash and this time the side skirt is separated from the body as well as Back to Rock III spins away across the arena and lies broken and beaten in the corner. Martijn tries to go back on the attack, but it would seem that a loose connection has been knocked out of Back to Roc by the 149Kj attacks from The Zodiac, and now only one of the lynch motors powering Back to Rock III€™s six wheels is receiving power from the batteries, meaning only one side of the drivetrain and 3 of the 6 wheels are turning. This means that instead of going in a straight line as intended Back to Rock III goes in circles, and so basically isn€™t moving, and this prompts our ring-side referees to begin the count!
      10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
      Back to Rock III gives up trying to move at all and sits motionless and Kody sportingly powers down The Zodiac€™s spinning shell from 1500rpm to 0 and cheers in the control box.

      CEASE!

      Back to Rock III goes back to rock;
      The Zodiac advances to the quarter-finals!

          As the match begins the seeded robot heads straight out of the starting position and guns it across the arena towards Neo-Mecha, who does the same as Samuel spins that vertical disc up to top speed. Neo-Mecha swerves away from the front of Gabriel IV and tries to turn into the side, but Joey swings the elongated pyramid-shaped machine around, slamming the nose of the wedge into the side of Neo-Mecha and pushing it sideways slightly, failing to get underneath but managing to avoid that deadly disc.

          Neo-Mecha isn€™t finished yet though and attacks, this time bringing the disc into play on the side of Gabriel IV and flipping the nose of the pyramid into the air, but it lands back on its wheels and drives away, turning to face another oncoming attack from Neo-Mecha, who again turns to avoid the flipper, but in doing so exposes its side ground clearance to Gabriel, who drives the narrow area of attack at the front of the robot underneath the side of Samuel€™s Anklebiter-shaped machine and Joey fires the full pressure flipper, throwing Neo-Mecha over sideways, all the power in that flipper rolling Neo-Mecha away a few feet before it rests on its back and flies away across the arena as the disc knocks against the steel floor of the arena, throwing up sparks until Neo-Mecha€™s disc is finally stops when it crashes against the spike strip on the side of the arena.

          Samuel activates the self-righting bar though and is quickly back on his wheels, but Gabriel is back in on the attack again, driving under the front of Neo-Mecha before Samuel has a chance to drive away and for the second time Joey fires the full pressure front hinged flipper, slamming Neo-Mecha against the spike strip this time and then driving in to pin it there with the open flipper, only withdrawing after the time limit for pinning opponents passes and Gabriel reverses to allow the vertical spinner back onto its wheels.

          Neo-Mecha quickly darts away in order to get the spinner back up to speed and does so before turning to meet the oncoming Gabriel IV, and again Samuel tries to implement his strategy of turning away from the front of Gabriel IV. He is successful this time and spins on the spot quickly and hits the side of Gabriel IV with the spinning disc, leaving a small scar in the armour and flipping Gabriel IV onto its side.
          However unfortunately for Samuel Gabriel swiftly self-rights and is back on its wheels, and immediately Joey goes back on the attack, turning to get underneath the side of Neo-Mecha and gunning the drive motors, powering across the arena and then firing the flipper to send the plucky newcomer head over heels again, and this time it hits the corner wall before bouncing upside down onto the killsaws, which raise and flip it up and over in a shower of sparks, back onto its wheels.

          CEASE!

          Both robots are still mobile at the end of the match, so we must go to a judge€™s decision to decide which machine progresses to the quarter-finals.

                Well as you may know, I can't gain access to the FRA at the moment since I'm using a different email address now to when I registered, so I didn't receive the email on my new password when the board was updated. I have registered again, but it's been a few months now and I still have no reply.
                its up to me to keep everyone up to date on this wonderful tournament... so without further delays, the next battle!

                Eternia vs. Dantu

                The two machines move out of their starting squares and square off against each other in the centre of the arena, the spinning disc of Dantu making a dangerous-sounding whir as the lynch motor that powers it gets up to full power. Leo guns Eternia€™s drive motors and rams into Dantu, but Alex spins quickly on the two wheel drive to prevent Eternia stopping Dantu€™s disc in its tracks. Leo attempts to flip Dantu, but misses because Alex spun just at the right time and now he is able to bring the disc into play on the side of Eternia, flipping it up and over as well as scarring the thick HDPE, but there are too many layers of it for Dantu to expose the workings of the machine.

                Leo self-rights quickly with a snort of co2 from Eternia€™s flipper and resets the weapon before taking on Dantu, whose disc is back up to speed again. The flipper takes a buffeting blow from the disc, but Leo doesn€™t relent and pushes Alex back across the arena, and this time when Leo fires the flipper Dantu goes up into the air and comes landing on its side with a crash! Dantu€™s wheels spin and it spins stylishly before landing back on its front, before spinning up the disc again and ramming into Eternia€™s front flipper a second time, this time slightly bending up the flipper plate and therefore stopping Eternia from easily getting underneath Dantu!

                Leo can still ram though, and the adequate ramming shape of Eternia allows Leo to push Alex all over the arena, and Eternia now manages to push Dantu over the killsaws in a shower of sparks! Dantu is OK though and reverses out of the corner, spinning up the dangerous vertical flywheel weapon as it does so. Eternia comes running at Alex with a box-rush attack, but like at the beginning of the round Alex turns swiftly on the spot and knocks into the side of Eternia, tearing into the all ready damaged side of the armour and flicking it up, but not over this time. Leo turns quickly and rams Dantu, whose weapon is temporarily stationary and with a loud bang the two career into the spike strip!

                Dantu is able to drive just over Eternia, but as he does so Leo sees an opportunity and fires his flipper, sending Dantu tumbling over, away from Eternia and onto its back! Alex spins up the disc, but it€™s now spinning in the wrong direction so when Dantu rams in on another attack it throws itself up and pushes Eternia away slightly, leaving a dent in the front flipper. But Dantu has turned the disc side of itself away from Eternia and this allows Leo to ram Dantu from the rear now, and the pair go flying across the arena and slam into the pit release button!

                The siren wails and the pit descends, and Leo senses that this could be his chance to get Dantu down the pit, but Alex€™s nippy two-wheel drive sees him jet away from the pit and across to the other side of the arena with the disc quickly back up to speed. The blades have become nothing but a blur, and as Eternia rams across the arena again Dantu rams forward to meet him.

                It€™s a massive collision, and a catastrophic one too as Eternia€™s flipper is bent right up, further than it was before and the whole robot is tossed over onto its back. Leo tries to self-right, but he€™s getting no radio control and it appears that Eternia€™s removable link has been knocked out by the force of Dantu€™s attack! On the other hand though Dantu isn€™t looking too good either, as it would seem one of Eternia€™s early rams knocked loose a connection inside the machine and this recent collision must have finished the job, as whenever Alex presses forward or backwards, Dantu can only manage to move in a circle, as one of the wheels has lost connection to its motor!

                But both robots became immobilised at the same time, so this match will go to the judges!

                  These two machines both have very effective weapons, as the wedge shaped Hypertension has a flipper that can throw opponents 1.7 metres into the air while Visioned has the vertical grabbing claws that are capable of holding onto an opponent for dear life while the powerful lynch motor drive manoeuvres to put them in the pit.

                  At the beginning of this round the two ram straight at each other, with Visioned driving straight up and over the top of Hypertension. Matty turns to attack from behind, but so does Visioned and the two meet head on again, but this time No Wai opens the claws wide to scrape under the front ground clearance of Hypertension MK3 and then the claws close, but they can€™t gain purchase on the wedge shape of their opponent and Hypertension slips out of their grip before Matty then drives under the claws and attempts to get under the robot, but the scooped front of Visioned is too low this time and this enables No Wai to utilise his superior drivetrain and shove Hypertension MK3 back across the arena and into the pit release button!

                  Visioned reverses away now as there€™s nothing else it can do, so Hypertension MK3 is allowed to escape and drives over to the other side of the arena, turning to meet an oncoming attack from Visioned and this time manages to get underneath, now using the wedge shape to ram the invertible machine across the arena and towards the pit! It€™s all over so quickly and in one sweet move Matty manoeuvres up to the pit and lets Visioned slide off the wedge and into the abyss, disappearing from the competition in a puff of smoke!

                  CEASE!

                  Visioned is in the pit in a very short time; Hypertension MK3 didn€™t even need to use the flipper!

                    Dendroaspis vs. Traffic Warden

                    The two promising looking machines move off at the beginning of the match, with the massive Traffic Warden heading across the arena to meet the wedge shaped Dendroaspis. Richard swerves immediately to try and dodge the clamping area of Traffic Warden to get to the side and lift, but Steven has an equally manouevrable two wheel drive and turns quickly to catch Dendroaspis in the worst place it could - side on! The clamps move in, squashing the rear of Dendroaspis into the other clamp, but luckily for Richard things have gotten a little better as one of the clamps can€™t get under the zero ground clearance of the wedge and so Steven doesn€™t have as good as hold as we thought he might get. This position works in Richard€™s favour now as the bottom arm of Dendroaspis lifts the whole wedge up and tips Traffic Warden up and over!

                    Steven quickly turns and rams Dendroaspis again, but before the clamps can come into play Richard gets his robot spinning and one of the spikes manages to put a sizeable dent in the 4mm titanium armour of Traffic Warden. However it isn€™t enough to stop the clamps and now Traffic Warden has Dendroaspis€™ rear end stuck between the clamps, and the E-Tek motors in the drive allow Steven to push Dendroaspis across the arena and back into the pit release button! Dendroaspis returns the lower arm to its normal position now, falling slightly, but Traffic Warden€™s clamps jump at the opportunity and squeeze the hardox wedge even more tightly! You can see the lifting arms of Dendroaspis struggling to move against the clamps of Traffic Warden, but the hydraulics are far more powerful then the electrics of Dendroaspis and Steven comfortably drives over to the pit, finally releasing Richard€™s heavily armoured machine and letting it tumble into the pit just like Visioned before it.

                    CEASE!

                    Another very short fight and Dendroaspis is in the pit; Traffic Warden goes through to the quarter-finals!

                      Autoism 3.0 vs. Wedga Triton

                      Autoism 3.0 is much the more interesting design of these two machines, clearly based on the unusual Big Nipper, but with a lot more power in the weaponry. Wedga Triton is just a Storm II-style box wedge with a powerful rear hinged flipper on top, but don€™t underestimate the simple designs - after all there€™s less to go wrong!

                      Autoism 3.0 seems to be the more aggressive robot at the beginning of this round, as Paul puts his Big Nipper style claw down to the ground and heads across the arena towards Wedga Triton, who also comes on the attack and gets to Autoism 3.0 first because of the 3mph speed advantage, which also allows Wedga to scoot around to the side of Autoism and ram in underneath! A flick of the flipper and Autoism bounces away across the steel arena floor, landing back on its wheels before it goes in on the attack again. Paul attempts to use the same strategy as he did earlier, pushing the claw down and so making the ground clearance effectively less than zero, and this time Paul is ready for Andy€™s defensive manoeuvre and turns with him, getting under the side skirt of Wedga Triton and hoisting it up into the air before it has four wheels on the ground again and can ram Wedga Triton across the arena and slam it into the arena wall!

                      Wedga falls onto its back from the position to which it was rammed and rapidly self-rights, with Autoism quickly trying to grab the flipper rams, but Andy was quick in reversing away when Wedga landed back on the ground and the speed advantage, however small it may be has proved telling already in this round and does so again now as Wedga runs to safety while the flipper resets. Autoism 3.0 is certainly showing a lot of aggression here though as Paul follows Wedga across the arena, once again pushing the claw down so as to get under the front extension of Wedga Triton, but Andy has other ideas and heads off down the arena to press the pit release button. The pit descends and Andy turns to meet the oncoming Autoism 3.0, who gets in underneath the front of the blue box wedge as planned and lifts it before pinning it against the pit release button which has already been depressed and so cannot be activated again.

                      However from this angle Autoism 3.0 can€™t flip Wedga Triton over again, and so with lack of things to do Paul is forced to reverse away, allowing Wedga Triton to fall back onto its wheels, and as soon as Autoism 3.0 has reversed Andy rams under the raised (but in the middle of returning to normal) lifter/claw and rams Autoism 3.0 towards the pit, firing the flipper just before it gets there and now all Andy has to do is look on as Autoism 3.0 bounces once just outside of the pit before landing right in and disappearing in a puff of smoke.

                        Hot Sauce vs. Holepunch 2.0

                        The match begins and both robots race out of their starting squares and into the centre of the arena, Hot Sauce turning away from Holepunch€™s front wedge though and spinning to get under the side before racing underneath and firing the flipper to role Holepunch 2.0 across the arena floor and back onto its wheels! Holepunch isn€™t finished though and drives back on the attack now, getting under the front of Hot Sauce and coming down on the flipper with the powerful crusher, not really piercing the thick hardox armour, put making a very slight indent and pinning Hot Sauce in place. The wedge of Holepunch 2.0 keeps Hot Sauce€™s wheels off the ground, and with the crusher stopping any resistance Leo is in complete control of this match!
                        No Wai attempts to free his machine by firing the flipper to try and knock the crusher away, but Leo€™s pneumatic crusher of doom holds the flipper down, keeping the colourful wedge where Leo wants it before Holepunch decides to continue this onslaught and now pushes Hot Sauce across the arena and slams it into the pit release button! The siren moans and the pit descends as Leo looks on happily, but the impact with the release button has loosened Holepunch€™s grip on Hot Sauce, and now No Wai fires the flipper again just to ease itself out of Leo€™s weakened hold before darting off across the arena and spinning quickly to attack the oncoming Holepunch.

                        However this time No Wai gets under the front of Leo€™s machine and slams it back across the arena, slamming it against the wall with a flick of the front-hinged flipper, pinning it there for a moment before Holepunch rolls down over onto its wheels and finds itself in a perfect position to attack! Leo guns the wheelchair motors and rams in under the side of Hot Sauce, biting down just as Hot Sauce€™s flipper begins to retract, but the crusher beats the flipper in speed and gets down into the workings of No Wai€™s flipper weaponry, puncturing the gas bottle!
                        Carbon dioxide streams out of Hot Sauce as Leo bites down even further with the crusher weapon and now the very chassis of Hot Sauce is misshapen as the crusher of Holepunch 2.0 does its job very well indeed. And with this magnificent hold Holepunch 2.0 reverses around in a smooth arc before moving over the pit and releasing its grip, allowing Hot Sauce to tumble off its wedge and land face down in the pit, broken and beaten.

                        CEASE!

                        Hot Sauce goes cold; Holepunch 2.0 goes through to the quarter-finals!

                          Sheer Heart Attack 2 (1) vs. Supreme

                          ACTIVATE!

                          The reigning champion trundles out of the starting square as its spinning drum gets up to speed quickly, with its opponent, the dangerous Supreme, also leaving the square quickly and heading across the arena to meet Sheer Heart Attack 2. Supreme doesn€™t want to meet the drum though, and tries to drive around the rear of the champion to attack with its own spinning weapon, but Martijn turns to defend and unless Daniel wants to eat drum he€™s forced to retreat. Martijn on the other hand pushes forward and manages to strike the front of Supreme, leaving some small scars in the front titanium armour and bending up the front wedge slightly! The hammer of Supreme crashes down, but lands behind the drum and between the tracks of Sheer Heart Attack 2- where there is nothing at all to hit!

                          Daniel turns to try a side attack on SHA2, but in doing so leaves himself open to an attack of the same kind and Martijn rams forward into the side of Supreme, leaving more scars before Daniel spins quickly and brings his spinning disc into the static drum of Sheer Heart Attack 2, ripping a gash in the drum! Sheer Heart Attack 2 is quick to spin up the drum again, but the robot is slightly unbalanced now and Daniel has driven away to spin up Supreme€™s disc before reversing on the attack of Sheer Heart Attack 2 again and spinner meets spinner with a huge shower of sparks and the unbalanced Sheer Heart Attack 2 flips over as it is thrown sideways across the arena by the hit!

                          Martijn goes back in on the attack again though; this time reversing with the wedges as spinning the drum is almost as dangerous to SHA2 as it is to Supreme right now. But the champion isn€™t the only one having a problem with a spinner weapon - Supreme€™s disc has ground to a halt, rendering both weapons immobilised! We can only guess that the disc dropped a chain or the connection to the motor has been loosened by that last hit, but whatever has gone wrong has left Supreme in a bit of a pickle. Also the front of Supreme was damaged by the drum of SHA2, which now drives under the rear of Supreme with the wedges and Martijn pushes Daniel€™s machine across the arena and over the killsaws! Sparks fly off the base armour of Supreme and it is thrown across the arena with Sheer Heart Attack 2 in hot pursuit, but this time Daniel turns and attempts to ram SHA2, but instead changes his mind last minute and presses the pit release button!

                          And yet again for the countless time in this round the pit has been depressed, leaving another way to dispose of your opponent. Martijn and Daniel both intend to do just that, both driving at each other with the lower section of the robots. Supreme€™s front end is damaged though and the hinged wedges of Sheer Heart Attack 2 slip under the clearance of Supreme, the tracks driven by lynch motors going crazy to push Supreme across the arena and that€™s exactly what Martijn does, slamming Supreme into the spike strip just as the judges call time on the match.

                                Sheer Heart Attack 2 (1) vs. Holepunch 2.0
