    RS!! Mini-Tournament 1

I think what Chris meant was that he didnt want to go up against Disco 5, so saying Why do I always get the duff opponents? means that he thinks its a bad draw for him.
Anyway, Ill do some tactics and predictions.

    Eliminators

Back to Rock III vs. Achilles: This looks to be an effective yet simple line-up, with two opponents evenly matched. Given that the Hydraulics are barely used, Achilles is going to win by flipping Back To Rock over the side.

Bad Temper Jr. vs. Disco 5: Go Disco

Eye of Ran vs. Knyfe: Why do I continuously end-up fighting Joey? I didnt get this robot until recently, so now I know what I can do...

Because the weapon is 4mm off the ground, and very powerful, using the 3d set-up is suicide, the spikes will do nothing, the skirt will not do much, so Ill go for...

    5. A 15mm Hardox wedge angled at 42* with an extension, perfect for deflecting vertical spinners and getting under other robots.

The plan with this set-up is obvious - ram into him to stop the bar, then push him as hard and fast as I can, keeping the front of the wedge facing him, as despite the fact the skirts are held firmly in place, I dont wish to risk it. Ram him around, into the walls, building up aggression and control points for JD if it lasts that long, or pit him.

    Good luck Joey

Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Sideswipe: Ill go for the powerful Sideswipe to put Spin Dash on a leash, then win!

    Good luck everyone

Finally, SOMEONE understands. But its not that I didnt want to be up against Disco, its just the worst possible situation.

        quote:

what does duff mean to you chris then if it doesnt mean crap. To me it has three meanings.

        1 being crap
+1>2 being pregnant in the phrase up the duff
3 being a last name as in Hilary Duff

How on Earth did Chris find out?!?!

          Drumroll please....

This is the first mini Robot SMASH!! tournament, and may affect the seedings in series 3 of the majors. Prepare for the ride of your life...

          Eliminator 1

Created and entered by Martijn M Benschop, Back to Rock III!
This robot has already proven its worth in Robot SMASH!! by reaching the semi-finals in series 2, defeating the ninth seed WORCK-ER and the deadly SOR X to get there. It has a large electric lifting scoop and a pussycat-style blade in the centre of the scoop, designed to shred tyres and maybe penetrate weak base armours. In Robot SMASH!! Series 1, on the other hand it fell out of the first round, so it could do the same here.

Created and entered by Alex Holt, Achilles!
This robot is the next to fight in Robot SMASH!! Series 2: Recharged, and is up against the likes of Death Threat 0.2 and Mega Monsoon. It is a very successful rammer/flipper that can choose between a hydraulic lifter and a pneumatic flipper for its weapons. The flipper has a small electric srimech on top to conserve gas and the hydraulics have a small hook to hold onto opponents! This is the champion of famous majors such as NSBFL6 and Pussycat Tribute Tournament 5, however the side armour is 5mm titanium, which although fine when fighting most robots could let it down against the more powerful spinners.

          Roboteers, standby!

          Booth 1: Martijn M Benschop
          Booth 2: Alex Holt

          5...
          4...
          3...
          2...
          1...
          SMASH!!

Achilles is using its pneumatic setup for this tournament, so expect to see robots fly if Alex can make use of this weapon in this fight, and if he wins the rounds to come. Back to Rock III has the less powerful electric lifting weapon, but has that saw that prove to be decisive if Martijn can deal out any damage to the underside of Achilles. But it€™s Alex who gets the first attack in, as the two meet almost head on, but Achilles lips in the flipper underneath the corner of BTRIII€™s skirts and flips Martijn onto his side! Martijn self-rights, but the time he was on his side has given Achilles the chance to nip around and get underneath the side, and once again Back to Rock III flies through the air, this time gaining more velocity and height, equalling a lot more airtime and thus a bigger crash when Back to Rock hits the arena floor with a CRASH! But this time he has landed on his wheels and now attacks Achilles back, getting under the temporarily raised flipper and lifting Achilles onto his back! There were sparks for a moment as the saw hit the underside of Achilles, but no real damage seems to be done as Achilles self-rights and reverses away, before coming back on another side attack, this time getting beaten by the skirt of Back to Rock III and being demoted to pushing Martijn onto the killsaws. BZZT! Achilles gets underneath and flips, and Back to Rock III is turned turtle and lands upside down on the rails! It begins to tip out, but Martijn uses the lifter and he topples back into the coliseum, quickly speeding back to the centre of the arena before Achilles can get OOTA. But Alex clearly still has that idea in mind and pursues Martijn across the coliseum, only to meet Back to Rock III head on, with Martijn€™s scoop getting the slight advantage this time and allowing him to slip underneath and lift Achilles again! The sparks are visible again, and the cutter of Back to Rock III is doing something, but we can€™t see and Achilles falls off the lifter right side up, and this allows him to sneak in underneath Back to Rock III€™s raised scoop and send Martijn up and over in a long bouncing journey across the arena floor, with BTRIII finally coming to rest on the killsaws! BZZT! They throw him on to his side and this allows Achilles to catch up with him, once again getting underneath and slamming Martijn into the arena wall! The Dutchman looks worried as Back to Rock fails to escape from what could be its final resting place on Achilles€™ flipper! Alex smiles and hits the flipper button and watches with satisfaction as Back to Rock III soars in a graceful arc as it flies through the air and lands crumpled and defeated on the camera tracks! After putting up an excellent fight Back to Rock III is up and out of the competition, Achilles keeps his heel hidden for now and progresses to the semi-finals!

          CEASE!

          Eliminator 2

Created and entered by Christopher Mason, Bad Temper Jr.!
This is actually a classic heavyweight as seen in the first 4 series of robot wars, weighing in at just 80kg, 20kg less than its modern heavyweight opponents. But don€™t let that fool you, as this is a very cool design, shaped like Tornado with an Overkill style blade on top of the robot that has plenty of power to dish out the hurt!

Created and entered by Martyn Forsyth, Disco 5!
Unlike its opponent this is a modern 100kg heavyweight, and packs into that 100kg a low pressure, front hinged flipper on the front of the robot and a large vertical flywheel on the rear that could do some serious damage. Although this robot has never been seen before in Robot SMASH!! , it is a very successful vapour in other tournaments.

          Roboteers, standby!

          Booth 1: Christopher Mason
          Booth 2: Martyn Forsyth

          5...
          4...
          3...
          2...
          1...
          SMASH!!

The 80kg Bad Temper Jr is quick off the mark, coming around the arena to try and attack Disco 5 side on, but Martyn isn€™t fooled and stays away from Chris until his disc is spun, then he waits for Chris to continue his onslaught so that he can get a hit in with his flywheel, but now Bad Temper Jr has had a change of mind and reverses away from the spinning disc, keeping his distance while Chris can think of a new strategy, but Martyn has other ideas and swings his disc around into the side of Bad Temper Jr, flinging Chris onto his back and leaving a large gash in the side armour! Bad Temper Jr self-rights and comes on the attack, striking Disco 5€™s vertical flywheel with the blade, but Martyn attacks from the side and turns Bad Temper onto its back in order to allow time for the disc to spin up, which happens quickly and Disco 5 attacks again, this time just after Chris has self-righted, so that the blades hit the bottom of the classic heavyweight and send Chris tumbling away and onto the killsaws! BZZT! Bad Temper is righted by the killsaws and comes back on the attack again, this time driving into the front of Disco 5 and slamming down on the flipper with the blade, but Disco manages to bring that disc around again and this time the blade of Bad Temper is already fired when the robot finds itself on its back, and now the robot struggles to self-right, but finally manages it and comes back on the attack, only to find itself being attacked once more by the flywheel, this time from the front and the classic heavyweight lands on its back again! Chris self-rights and finally manages to get a side attack on Disco 5, hitting Martyn with the blade and pushing Disco up against the pit release button, but the modern heavyweight escapes before reversing into the side of Bad Temper again, this time ripping a side panel clean off and almost flipping Bad Temper Jr right out of the arena, but Chris uses the blade to hang on in there and reverses into the side of Disco, edging Martyn slightly closer to the pit before Disco escapes and flips Bad Temper with the flipper to get the disc spun up again for when Bad Temper self-rights, which it does only to be hit on the defenceless side by that powerful flywheel! CRASH! A drive motor is ripped right out of the side of Bad Temper Jr, and Chris flipped onto his back yet again, and must use even more co2 to right his robot, but once again he is pushed side on by Disco 5 and flipped against the side wall by the front flipper, though he manages to remain upright. But is it any good? Bad Temper Jr is now moving in circles after losing that drive motor, and so Disco 5 takes its time to spin up the flywheel for one last hit! CRASH!
Bad Temper Jr is launched across the arena. And as the flywheel once again caught the defenceless side of the robot half of the top armour panel goes flying away and suddenly the robot lying upside down and clearly defeated up against the wall is venting gas, as the co2 supply for the weaponry has been smashed to pieces! Martyn smiles with satisfaction as Chris laughs like a good sportsman as Disco 5 moves in for the kill, finally sending the remains of Bad Temper Jr, possibly the bravest (or stupidest) classic heavyweight there is up and over the rails with one last smash from that deadly flywheel! Bad Temper Jr has a tantrum, but doesn€™t get what he wants and Disco 5 boogies its way onto the semi-finals!

          CEASE!

And so we now have 2 of our 4 semi-finalists:
          Achilles
          Disco 5
          -
          -

          Coming up:

          Eye of Ran vs. Knyfe

          and

          Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Sideswipe

Already added to the list of worthy, but unfortunate entrants are:
          Back to Rock III
          Bad Temper Jr
          -
          -

What other robots will be added to those lists? If you want to find out, stay tuned!

              Eliminator 3

              Eye of Ran vs. Knyfe

Created and entered by Joey McConnell, Eye of Ran!
A T-shaped machine, with the vertical line being the front end of the robot, also where the weapon is situated, a powerful horizontal blade placed low down on the robot to hit low components. It also has a rear wedge to give 0 ground clearance back there, and Joey plans to face Knyfe with the wedge first today. However, the ground clearance is high elsewhere and Joey has less pushing power in the drive than his opponent here.

Created and entered by Paul Cuomo, Knyfe!
Knyfe is using the 15mm hardox hinged wedge for this battle. This robot is a powerful rammer designed to kill spinners, and considering Eye of Ran has a spinning blade this is good news for Paul. This heavily armoured machine reached the final of Heat B in Recharged before finally bowing out to the number #3 seed Supreme Glory Omega. Other weapon choices available include hinged spikes, ramming spikes and side wedges.

              Roboteers, standby!

              Booth 1: Joey McConnell
              Booth 2: Paul Cuomo

              5...
              4...
              3...
              2...
              1...
              SMASH!!

Knyfe looks promising as it comes out on the attack, but Eye of Ran starts spinning up the blade despite keeping the wedge facing Knyfe, perhaps hoping Paul will not know what to do now, but Mr. Cuomo seems fearless, speeding in on the attack and slamming Eye of Ran back into the arena wall with a sickening crunch! The blade comes to an abrupt halt, and Knyfe pins Eye of Ran in before reversing slightly to come around on a side attack! Joey starts to get away, spinning up as he does but Paul is too fast and slams into the rear of Eye of Ran, stopping the blade again and getting right in underneath Joey€™s intuitive machine. And Paul isn€™t stopping there, now going on a full out slam right across the arena and into the arena wall, and they hit so hard that Eye of Ran is propelled up into the air and lands next to Knyfe on its back! It runs inverted, but now both the wedge and the blade are pretty ineffective, especially the wedge immediately works against Joey now that it€™s flipped as Knyfe comes in with its own wedge and scoops Eye of Ran up again, this time driving the spinner across the arena and dumping it onto the killsaws! BZZT! Eye of Ran is spun away, but now Joey has his own blade spun up and slams into the side of Knyfe, sending Paul sliding away across the arena, and before Knyfe can retaliate Joey is quickly on the attack again, this time not striking a full power hit, but certainly giving Knyfe some trouble as Paul is hit away again! But not far away enough, and Paul powers back in on the attack, once again getting underneath the inverted wedge on Eye of Ran and going full steam ahead for the pit release button! They crash into it hard, but despite opening the pit this may not be all good for Knyfe, as the force of the slam flips Eye of Ran again, this time sending Joey the right way up so that he can drive straight forwards into the side of Knyfe and send Paul spinning away yet again! And this time it looks like there might be some proper damage, as the side panel of Knyfe wobbles slightly as though it may have been loosened by that impact! Paul worries for a moment, but goes back on the attack and gets that wedge back underneath the blade of Eye of Ran before driving on with full force, and taking us all by surprise Paul dump Joey into the pit of oblivion! Eye of Ran is stabbed in the back, Knyfe knyfes its way through to the semi-finals!

              CEASE!

              Eliminator 4

              Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Sideswipe

Created and entered by Steven McGregor, Spin Dash Unleashed!
This famously successful robot has just made the semi-finals of Recharged in its previous incarnation, Metal Sonic Spin Dash. The premise is to get the horizontal saw blade mounted on the bottom of the machine in under opponents to slice up their wheels or skirts. The original version was the runner-up of VFT1, and S.D IV was the winner of a series of Martyn€™s Robot Wars, which clearly shows how successful this series of robots has been.

Created and entered by Leo Van Miert, Sideswipe!
Another T-shaped machine, this robot€™s vertical line is the rear. Like Eye of Ran it also has a spinning blade, but it isn€™t at all a conventional shape and could do some serious damage. Unusually the blade also acts as a srimech. But like Eye of Ran the pushing power pales next to its opponent in this round, and that could see Sideswipe get swiped.

              Roboteers, standby!

              Booth 1: Steven McGregor
              Booth 2: Leo Van Miert

              5...
              4...
              3...
              2...
              1...
              SMASH!!

Both robots get off to a fairly quick start, the far more striking Sideswipe emitting a dangerous whir as that potent weaponry spins up to top speed, becoming no more than a whirl of green. Spin Dash€™s blade is also spinning, but looks less dangerous, it€™s only a saw after all, right? Even if it is a saw, it€™s a bloody dangerous one, which Steven proves as he comes in on the attack and gets around to the side of Sideswipe, sliding in underneath and pushing Leo towards the corner as sparks fly off the base of Sideswipe. Steven drops Leo onto the killsaws with a loud BZZT! , but now Leo gets away and comes on an attack of his own, hitting the rear of Spin Dash with such force that the panel is torn away and Spin Dash€™s internals are now exposed from the rear! Sideswipe starts spinning up again and quickly has the weapon at full potential once more, but Steven confidently keeps the rear away from Leo€™s machine and comes in on his own onslaught, but the reach of Sideswipe€™s spinner is greater than Spin Dash€™s saw, and when Steven goes on this frontal attack he is spun away by Leo€™s dangerous machine! The crowd roar with delight upon seeing a machine this powerful and destructive in the coliseum, and Sideswipe now attacks again, hitting the side of Spin Dash and scratching (scratching, but not penetrating) the side of Spin Dash Unleashed. But since that second hit Spin Dash Unleashed doesn€™t seem to have been going anywhere, and Steven isn€™t even trying to move it anymore, and as the camera zooms in we see the removable link on the arena floor! It was knocked out by Sideswipe€™s second onslaught and that€™s the end of Spin Dash Unleashed this time around as Sideswipe swipes it and progresses to the semi-finals!

              CEASE!

And finally, the semi-final list is completed!
              Achilles
              Disco 5
              Knyfe
              Sideswipe

And so, we have the draw for the semi-finals!
              Achilles vs. Knyfe
              Disco 5 vs. Sideswipe
Tactics, predictions and a round of applause for the semi-finalists, while commiserating for these unlucky four who didn€™t quite make it.
              Back to Rock III
              Bad Temper Jr
              Eye of Ran
              Spin Dash Unleashed
Quite surprising really when you consider two of the robots that bowed out in the first round have already made the semi-finals of Recharged!

+1>!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! A victory - unlucky Joey, but I had to score one over you after continuously loosing to you

                    Tactics and predictions:

Achilles vs. Knyfe: Here I am glad I dont get Back To Rock again but Im not too glad about this myself  In a straight out ramming match, Ill win, with 6 Vulkanised Wheels compared to his 4 Rubber Wheels off a Go-Kart, and my 2 LEM200s at 48V, providing me with a 50hp output, and a great amount more than his 30hp from 2 Eteks at 48V. But this isnt going to come down to straight ramming, as hes got a very effective lifter that could turn me over, and make any normal wedge useless if Im careless. So Ill go with the most suitible wepaon for this battle:

8: A 42* hindged wedge at the front made of 7mm Hardox with a large 8mm Hardox hindge. The wedge is invertible, as it flops over if flipped, and isnt effected if flippeed. I use this against flippers.

This will mean I can fight hiom, and if flipped I wont be weaponless. Plan is to go for the jugular - go in as hard and fast as possible and ram him into a few walls to shake things loose, but RAM HIM INTO THE PIT RELEASE FIRST. In the last fight, I was confident, and didnt feel the need to open the pit unless it was an emergency. This time, open it at the start by ramming him into the button so he cant sneak attack me. Im not overly confident, but I may pull through.

                    Good luck Alex

Disco 5 vs. Sideswipe: Two powerful robots here, but the thing about Disco is that its 4mm Titanium armour is quite flimsy, even with the 5mm Ti ribs. Salamander ripped it clean open, Psyclonised performed a major autopsy (see a link to robots in that last sentence ), and I believe that Sipeswipe will rip up Disco, and prevent it from dancing for a little while.

lol Paul, you do realize Alex is trying to scoop you into the air fully and prevent you from moving at all, not just flip you over? He would have chosen the flipper for that XD

                        Disco 5 vs. Sideswipe
Sideswipe doesnt seem to have that good a turning because of its shape, so i should be able to get round the sides and back easily and do some damage with the disc. Also because of the 1cm ground clearance allround, i should be able to get under its sides and flip it over which could cause it problems.

                          Semi-Final 1

                          Achilles vs. Knyfe

Knyfe is using the hinged wedge setup for this bout, while Achilles has switched to the hydraulics.

                          Roboteers, standby!

                          Booth 1: Alex Holt
                          Booth 2: Paul Cuomo

                          1...
                          SMASH!!

Both these robots have powerful drives, with Achilles€™ E-Teks and Knyfe€™s LEM-200s, and both machines run those at 48v. It is clear at the beginning of this bout though that Achilles€™ lifter is a far more potent weapon than the hinged wedge of Knyfe, and as the two meet head on Achilles€™ front wedge gets in underneath Knyfe€™s own wedge and Alex lifts Paul into the air, and even as Knyfe€™s wheels go round at amazing speeds there€™s nothing Paul can do up there except watch helplessly as Alex reverses into the pit release button! But the impact of Achilles hitting the button shakes Knyfe loose and suddenly Paul finds himself back in action- under the lifter of Achilles! With a perfect attack lined up for him Paul wastes no time and slams into the internal workings of Achilles, driving Alex back across the arena floor and tries to steer him towards the pit, but Achilles shakes him off and gets that lifter back to the ground only to be rammed side on by the consistent Knyfe, this time pushing Achilles just slightly past the edge of the pit (so close!) and onto the killsaws. BZZT! Achilles is thrown away, but now gets under the rear end of Knyfe and begins to lift, but the killsaws hit Knyfe and in a shower of sparks Paul is thrown off the lifter and once again his wedge meets the side of Achilles, narrowly missing the pit for a second time, but now Paul manages to shove Alex into the wall with great force and due to Knyfe€™s speed Achilles is thrown over onto its back! Alex self-rights, but Paul has already pushed in underneath and now the two are heading on a one way crash course to the pit! There€™s nothing Alex can do from up there and Knyfe is in full control- or so it would seem. They reach the edge, but Paul can€™t shake Achilles off in time and both machines take the plunge into the chasm! The audience can€™t sit still for the tension, the judges are re-watching the tape... and it€™s Knyfe! Achilles went into the pit first and Paul goes onto the final!

                          SMASH!!

Both these spinners owned their round 1 opponents, especially Disco 5 who only had to deal with a classic heavyweight. Sideswipe certainly had the harder draw, having to take on Spin Dash Unleashed to get here, but by the end of the match the saw machine had no link and thus Leo was through, and it seems he intends to get through again as that dangerous blade is quickly up to full speed, but so is Disco€™s vertical flywheel and the two approach each other cautiously. Leo makes the first attempt to attack and tries to hit the front of Disco with the blade, which he does and Disco has a small gash in the flipper as well as being spun around by that attack! However, the spinning part may not be such a bad thing and now Martyn reverses into Sideswipe with his disc running at top speed and potency while Leo€™s blade is still spinning back up! CRASH! The force of the slam sees Sideswipe go right up and over backwards, and the spinning blade is bent slightly! However, it isn€™t too badly disfigured and Leo self-rights, only to be pushed by Martyn, who gets the flipper underneath and overturns Sideswipe again! Leo once again rights his machine, but now Martyn€™s flywheel is spinning at maximum rpm again and Disco 5 delivers another blow to the front of Sideswipe, this time sending the T-shaped robot careering across the arena to land on its side, stacked against the wall! Leo spins the blade and gets back down, but in comes Disco yet again and stacks Leo back up with the flipper, not giving Sideswipe time to get that weaponry back up to speed. Leo wearily self-rights again, but is smacked by Disco 5€™s flywheel and cartwheels sideways onto the killsaws! BZZT! Up they come and Sideswipe is bounced away, landing right side up and quickly running off to spin up again, finally succeeding in doing so. Disco 5 follows with the flywheel spun up again and the two spinners meet head on, horizontal blade vs. Vertical flywheel and this time Disco 5 is knocked reeling by the hit, but not as badly as it would have done because Sideswipe€™s blade is still bent out of shape. And now Martyn attacks again, sliding in under the front of Sideswipe and getting right underneath the middle of the long machine before firing his flipper, which fails in turning Sideswipe over this time, but manages to push Sideswipe backwards into the pit release button! The siren wails and the chasm descends, and now Leo sees a chance as he falls off Disco€™s flipper and pushes Martyn side on, almost turning the match on its head by pitting Disco, but Martyn manages to turn away and now smacks into Sideswipe side on with that lethal flywheel! CRASH! Sideswipe turns over and this time the blade is over thin air, as most of the body is still on the arena floor, but the front is upside down and over the pit! Leo can€™t self-right from there, and the crowd roars as Disco 5 goes into a victory spin, celebrating its domination of the battle as it moves onto the final!

                          CEASE!

Sideswipe is sideswiped; Disco 5 dances on to the final!

+2>!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! Fantastic - a semi-final victory and Knyfe is where I didnt expect to see it, and where I think many people didnt expect to see it. Fantastic fights Liam, fantastic effort from Alex but ultimately one had to win, and it was Knyfe, and Im in the FINAL!

                                +1>Final:
Knyfe vs. Disco 5: Disco is no walk-over, not at all. In fact I think that Disco, out of all the contestants, bar Back To Rock, was the one I was least confident of facing in the final. But I have a plan...
The plan revolves around using the same weapon set-up as last time, so if the flywheel over-turns me I can continue fighting. Even though the 31.5kj is nothing to argue with, neither is my armour and shock-padding, so damage isnt something Im worried about. In fact, the lack of shock-proofing on Disco will go in my favour. my plan is to use the invertible wedge to get under the front when the discs are at full speed, and ram him as hard as I can into the furthest wall.

                                This should:

                                A) Kill him through joint shock of the ram and the energy from the discs.

                                B) It will dislodge something so I can fight him more easily.

                                C) The ram will flip him over, and then, because its a forward-hindged flipper, push it so it pushes into the wall, and it cant self-right.

For the final, Ill avoide opening the pit, because I dont want to risk it. Just go for dogged and persistant rams and shoves, and do my main tactic, and try and win the fight.

Good luck Martyn  and Good luck to Disco 5
