Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death

    Tactics

    Achilles v Systematic Shocker

Im gonna go with my drum here and try to rip through that 5mm titanium side armour. If that fails, push it into the pit. Good luck Alex

Nah Paul, youve got it wrong.... Hell is the one with the fire and demons and stuff. Franks brain is the thing that a bit like that, with less fire and less demons but as a whole a lot worse.

Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death

              Predictions

Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Gabriel III

Oof, a hard one. But Spin Dash Unleashed looks mean, and with no skirts Gabriel is history (sorry!)

              The 6isc vs. Dolce

Dolce is an excellent new robot, and against any other opponent Id say Chezza through, but it is The 6isc...

              Nitro-Gene 4.0 vs. PsycloniZer

Another tough nut. PyscloniZer could destory Nitro, but it is a spinner killer, so who knows...?

              Good luck all

Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death

To be fair Liam, I dont think that a 35kg spinning ring with three hammers extending horizontally outwards, supported to each other with a framework, powered by an LEM200 motor run at 48v and spins at 2500rpm,capable of getting up to full speed in less than 3 seconds and allowing this to slam huge 80mm3 sharpened lumps of Hardox into the opponents at a force of around 108kj will totally destroy me...just cause a couple of wounds that are easily repaired with an anti-denting device and super-glue

Seriously though, the armour should be fine, and so should the insides, but Im not completely sure about the likelihood of me winning as unless I can stop the spinner within 1 second of it getting to speed, Ill lose.

Given that AJ looked up Nitro-Gene and I was remembering what Id originally read of PsycloniZer, Im renewing my tactics.

Because of the speed of the ring, even if I to catch it within the 3 seconds, theres a chance Ill miss. However, theres a greater chance that my 22mph might catch my 15mph opponent before he spins up. If I do catch him, just flip him out - I dont want to take any chances. If I miss, my plan is to use my armour and speed, and his traction to my advantage: If I go my the basic rambot principle, and just ram him any way I wish, theres a chance Ill be moved away, and hell be fine. But if I was to ram INTO the blades, hell not push either of us away, since hes not like Tempest This will go the blades to a low speed, allowing me to slow him - then throw him out

                As I said before:

Good luck AJ  though possibly its me who shall need it

Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death

The armour itself may not be damaged, which is why I am trying to take the panels off as they are rather than put slices in them. If not, shock damage could be key. As Paul has a change in plan, I will need to counter by first running away to ensure Im fully spun up by the time it hits me.

Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death

                    Ahem€¦

Hey everybody, and welcome to The Crash & Burn Mini-Tournament of Death! I€™m taking a break from Dual Duels at the moment and writing this little 8 robot tournament as a freshener. Who will get the (relatively small) crown? Let€™s find out!

                    Our competitors are as follows€¦

                    €œFrom Pontefract in West Yorkshire€¦Gabriel III.€

Angel of hell, or devil€™s food? Joey McConnell€™s entry has a long triangular pyramidal body shape with a steep rear and very shallow front. Powerful LEM-drive gives it the push, and it has variable steering as well. Its very powerful front-hinged flipper helps as well, with barbs on it to strand its prey, and other barbs can be found all over the body, as well as the rear to prevent strandings€¦that being said, its armour isn€™t the best, and it not being much of a pusher could have it on the highway back to hell before long.

                    €œFrom Orpington in London€¦Nitro-Gene 4.0.€

Turbocharged and ready for action is Paul Cuomo€™s flipperbot. Boxy in shape with a flipper that€™s hinged halfway down the back, it can toss over 1.5 tonnes easily, and is quite powerful with 4 LEM130s for drive. Its 5mm hardox exterior armour and inner shockproofing can make many spinners cry, as well as the skirts all around that give some low-end protection. Its edges however look like big hot spots for heavier spinners, and a top speed of 22mph means it doesn€™t have the best control. Will the Nitro-Gene be rocketed from the gene pool?

                    €œFrom Manchester€¦Dolce.€

It€™s an axe of affairs as Chezza€™s axebot thunders onto the scene. The axe in question hits home very hard, might even dent hardox, and goes on for 30 full hits before dying down. 9mm titanium wraps comfortably around Dolce, as does the lovely paint job, and a good decent 15mph speed keeps it in check, but it€™s nowhere near the best pusher. If anybody happens to get under the skirts that hide the 11mm ground clearance, the axebot will certainly be in trouble. Should the axe fail, Dolce might be considered a dunce.

                    €œFrom Shrewsbury in Shropshire€¦PsycloniZer.€

A storm is coming€¦no wait, it already HAS come. Andrew Jackson brings to us a ring spinner with three very frighteneing hammers and a cage to ward off flippers. Hardox is in all areas, 8mm for the main ring and 3.25mm for the top and bottom panels. For a ring spinner it€™s not all that slow either; 2 S28-400 MagMotors power it up and give it a 15mph top speed. Although the cage does help, the ground clearance of the body itself is quite high, and it can be stacked against the wall. Is the PsycloniZer too powerful for its own good? Maybe.

                    €œFrom Cardiff in Wales€¦Systematic Shocker.€

Internal server error? It must be the work of Liam Eliot€™s tracked machine! No matter what set-up it€™s got, it€™ll have either spikes or a scoop. It can also use a spinning drum as its weapon. It€™s hella powerful with LEM200 drive and 2 titanium tank tracks, and its main armour, 4mm Hardox, is nothing to scoff at, or its 5mm titanium skirts. What€™s to scoff at, you reckon? The fact that its tracks are exposed from above, as with all invertible machines, as will having a 20mph top speed that might send it out of control. System crash, anyone?

                    €œFrom Geddinton in Northamponshire€¦Achilles.€

Alex Holt believes in the gods, and not the least of which the one he named his robot after! This very successful wedge can use its flipper to flip, or lift, via pneumatics and hydraulics respectively. With hydraulics, there is a little claw to hold opponents in place for this mean old wedge to drag where he wants. 4 S28-400s power this bad boy and it can run at 18mph. While its armour isn€™t quite withstanding against the big spinners, the 10mm polyurethane rubber on top can deceive the crushers and axes it encounters. It self-rights using a bar at the top, and that€™s about it for your godly all-rounder.

                    €œFrom Glasgow, Scotland€¦Spin Dash Unleashed.€

I hate that hedgehog! No, not Sonic! It€™s Steven McGregor€™s newest creation! Invertible and run on LEM130s and 6WD, when it comes to push and shove, this bot can give it all. Its rounded sides and rear help prevent beaching, and skirts prevent breaching. 4mm Hardox covers this wolf-in-hedgehog€™s-clothing, and the deadly saw returns, powered by an S28-150 and going at 3000RPM! Unlike bots with less wheels, though, it can€™t manoeuvre as well, and the sawblade doesn€™t do as well upside-down. But€¦you€™re too slow if you can€™t keep up with its 16mph top speed.

                    €œFrom Gainsborough in Lincolnshire€¦The 6isc.€

It€™s Frank Goacher€™s bar-bell bot we€™ve all come to know and€¦know. Its 6 wheels are arranged in a triangular fashion so it€™s 4WD invertible no matter what, and giant 5mm Hardox hubs protect them. The 14mm Hardox disc goes at 2500RPM and is powered by a LEM130, providing a modest 36kJ. The actual body is a 4mm Hardox axle bar, and the battery bar is 2mm aluminium. Its great dimensions make it look intimidating, but it can be flipped around easily from the sides, and its armour isn€™t so great in places. Will there be a 7isc after this contest?

Introductions done, onto the first battle€¦soon€¦

Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death

I had planned to do all four fights tonight€¦but due to certain circumstances beyond my control *cough*familymatters*cough* I can only do one fight and leave you hanging until a little later€¦so€¦let€™s begin.

                      +1>The Crash & Burn Mini-Tournament of Death!

                      Eliminators
                      Battle 1
                      Achilles vs. Systematic Shocker

                      --------
                      --------
Kody: So what€™s the scoop on Achilles€™ tactics?
Alex: Er, not much. Just going with the hydraulics, going to see how much fun he€™ll have in the air.
                      Kody: Looks impressive.
Alex: Can lift over 400kg, so it€™s at the least quite good I€™d say.
Kody: I wouldn€™t bet against that. How do you feel about your opponent?
Alex: Newcomer, whatever, all the same to me. Only another fight I have to win.
                      Kody: Good luck to you.
                      Alex: Thanks.

Kody: Hey, how€™s it coming along?
Liam: Coming along? It€™s done, nothing more to do.
Kody: Lovely. And what are your tactics gonna be?
Liam: Use the drum, shred him up, get him down the pit.
Kody: Not worried about being a newcomer to the game?
Liam: Hell no. It€™s just a flipper.
Kody: Confident, aren€™t you€¦he€™s using hydraulics for this bout.
Liam: Good for me, I won€™t be flipped as easily then.
                      Kody: Good luck out there.
                      Liam: Thank you.

                      --------

                      Roboteers, stand by€¦

                      Booth #1: Alex Holt
                      Booth #2: Liam Eliot

In the arena, for the house robots, we have Double Whamlet; quad axes and scoop arm€¦also in the arena, Taki-san; electric wedge, and rear cutting blade.

                      3€¦
                      2€¦
                      1€¦
                      Activate!

We are underway! And so are both of our first two competitors, quite possibly searing the floor with burning rubber as they crash into each other€™s faces. Systematic Shocker is the quicker of the two, and therefore gets into Achilles€™ zone first. It€™s no big crash, just a dull thunk against the well-armoured hydraulic lifting plate, but Achilles has met the scoop just behind the drum and is stuck behind it slightly. Had Achilles wedged it successfully, it might€™ve been over for Liam, but now that it€™s become a pushing match, it€™s Alex who€™s in the gutter as, though devoid of a functional drum for the moment, Systematic Shocker starts to push Alex€™s machine backwards, having the clear power advantage! Soon enough, the wall beckons. WHAM. Achilles is stuffed right into it, and Liam keeps him there.

Liam however realizes he€™s not going to defeat his opponent by simply pinning him there, and also that you can only hold your opponent for 30 seconds, so he gives Achilles his freedom and backs off to rev up the spinning drum. Achilles blasts back towards his opponent, twisting around to try and attack the sides. Systematic Shocker is doing the likewise, with Achilles barely escaping a hit, and Alex smiles slightly as Achilles turns right into the side of Systematic Shocker, but unfortunately the skirts defeat the lifter and Alex drives right up the skirts and into the side, spearing Systematic Shocker€™s side panel with the wedge. As he backs off, Systematic Shocker turns and goes for the frontal assault again, this time with the drum fully spun up! It puts its speed advantage to good use, and Achilles can€™t turn away fast enough as it exposes its side!

                      CRASH!

The noise echoes through the arena, but luckily the 5mm titanium deals with the drum€™s blow with only a dent. It has, however, toppled Achilles, and Systematic Shocker shoves into Achilles as Achilles€™ bar srimech kicks in, sending Achilles over, and away before Liam can catch him. Alex turns his bot around as Systematic Shocker draws near, the drum back at its terminal speed, and decides to box-rush it. Liam seems a bit startled by this and backs off, but Alex keeps coming, and slams into Systematic Shocker on an angle, sliding straight under the drum which causes minimal impact on the wedge, and also getting straight under the scoop as well! Liam tries to drive off, but Achilles lifts his robot up, the claw now latched onto the top of Systematic Shocker€™s left side, and keeping it in place!

With his catch of the day in his grasp, Alex heads over to the pit release button, and slams Systematic Shocker against it, unlocking the pit that slowly descends into the earth. Achilles however looks relatively unstable, however, trying to turn with a 110kg robot on his lifter, and suddenly tips forward, sending it straight onto its own lifter and suspended on it! Systematic Shocker however is nowhere near safe, as Achilles€™ lifter and claw are firmly clamped around it, so it can€™t move. Achilles€™ wheels are spinning, but it appears unable to get around as well.

Knowing what he has to do, Alex retracts the lifter, and Systematic Shocker can finally get away, as Achilles falls back onto its own wheels. Liam comes back on the attack as Systematic Shocker barges into Achilles from the front before Alex can move his robot again, and though unable to drum up Achilles€™ wedge or get at the side, pushes it across the arena, and unfortunately for Alex, right into the grasp of Double Whamlet! The house robot smacks the top of Achilles, but it€™s done nil to Achilles€™ top polyurethane protection, but it€™s now held in place from the rear by Double Whamlet€™s grabbing arms, unable to move thanks to the house robot€™s power, and Taki-san is leaving her CPZ; Liam gets the hell out of the way as her big cutting blade makes itself known!

                      CRASH!!!

Known to Achilles€™ hydraulic lifter, that is! It smacks against the side of the lifter, slightly denting the 4mm Hardox plate but other than that, it€™s just sparks, m€™dear. Now The Watcher makes his own presence known, and shoves Taki outta the way, which is the cue for Whamlet to release Achilles€¦who darts straight into the nearby Systematic Shocker€™s side! This time, the skirt doesn€™t help Liam, and Achilles has firmly wedged the Welsh robot! The claw seems to securely clamped it, and Liam fiercely wiggles the controls back and forth as Achilles lifts his robot into the air, and starts to drag it towards the pit!

All of a sudden, the tracks of Systematic Shocker do indeed make a shocker, getting just enough traction to rotate, and tilt slightly off the lifting plate, which is enough to send Achilles completely off-balance, and he is thrown forward as Systematic Shocker is thrown off, gliding just by the pit, and Liam wipes his brow that he didn€™t meet such a fate. Alex isn€™t too happy about this, and he restores the lifter down and rushes forward to makes amends. But Systematic Shocker makes a little reverse manoeuvre and Achilles ends up flying past him, setting up a perfect opportunity for a hit, which Liam takes!

                      CRASH!!!

Probably the best drum hit of this match, as the 5mm titanium panel gets taken off completely! To say Alex is displeased would be quite an understatement right about now; he is positively fuming, and Liam is happy with the result: he moves forward to attack again. Achilles proves the more maneouvrable this time around by nipping around the charge and getting to Systematic Shocker€™s side, sliding under the skirt again on an angle, and lifts Systematic Shocker€™s right end up. Liam watches with a dead-weight feeling in his stomach as Achilles charges forward sending the tracked robot onto its back.

Achilles seems to be back in the game now, having seemingly turned his opponent€™s weapon inside-out, and strolls around to try and have a nick at Systematic Shocker€™s side skirt again. Liam backs Systematic Shocker off, but Achilles goes with the flow, and again turns into the skirt, barely getting under it as the lifter opens, but Systematic Shocker backs away too quickly€¦and Liam guns forward towards Achilles€™ exposed weapon; inverted drum or not, this can€™t end well!

                      CRASH!

Oh dear, that didn€™t sound good€¦and it definitely isn€™t! The hydraulic ram has been completely knocked back into Achilles€™ internals, and by the sound of it snapped it right off the lifting plate! Not a good sign! Alex discerns this quite clearly, but his face is now unreadable as he rams Achilles into Systematic Shocker€™s drum again, so at least the drive is still working properly. The drum having stopped again, Liam is saved by the scoop, and he begins to push Achilles back towards the wall again, Alex tries hard to push back, but slowly and surely€¦WHAM. A dull thunk and Alex has his wedge pinned against the wall again.

Half the match has gone by now, and it€™s none too obvious who€™s in control of this match, but Systematic Shocker despite being the less maneouvrable of the two has shown good control, and continues to pin Achilles against the wall as The Watcher moves in and separates them himself, and Systematic Shocker is off again to spin up his drum€¦only to be greeted by Achilles once more as the plate stops the drum in its tracks, not only that but it gets under the scoop as well, and throws Systematic Shocker into the wall opposite! WHAM! The claw prevents Liam€™s robot from escaping the grasp as there still is a grasp, even though Achilles cannot lift, and Alex turns to deliver Liam to the pit again, only for Liam to drive out from under the claw and off the side, and spin up the drum again.

As Alex moves in for another side attack, Systematic Shocker suddenly backs up and spins around. Achilles pauses for a second, wondering if this is a well-thought-out plan or a crazy attempt to trick the veteran, then throws himself into the spinning rammer. The side of Liam€™s machine whacks against the side of Alex€™s, and a second later gets the drum in€¦only for it to once again hit the wedge and bounce away. Alex moves in€¦but is foiled by the scoop once more€¦and now it proves crucial, as Systematic Shocker has him in drect line with the pit! Alex frantically pounds his control, but those S28-400s aren€™t overpowering those LEM200s today, and a few seconds later, Achilles is dunked into the hole, and we say good-bye to the first fall-out.

                      CEASE!

Achilles has been brought to his heels.
Systematic Shocker advances to Round 2!
                      --------
                      --------
                      Kody: Oi€¦that looks a mess€¦
Alex: It shall be repaired soon enough.
Kody: I hope it really is soon enough. Return soon.
Alex: I will when I wish.
Kody: And Liam€¦well, I honestly say I did not see that coming.
Liam: Hehe, to be honest, I didn€™t either.
Kody: You€™re gonna go all the way?
                      Liam: You bet!
Kody: Good luck for the next round!
                      Liam: Thank you.

Ive got a horrible feeling that this incarnation of achilles is my panic attack 24k...

Anyways, good fight to both my Liam and Kody.

On a side note - I shall have vengeance.
