    The Roaring Donkey mini-tournament

Im reserving the kitchen sink for the moment. If I can get past Envy, I expect to face Resonance in the final, and Ill need to throw the sink at him

Anyway, I dont Envy() Shane the task of facing The 6isk with a front hinged flipper because I honestly think its the second worst weapon to face it with.

Ill go for side attacks where possible. Try to flip it over with the disk then quickly strike at the top/bottom.

      More w00tiness.

      The 6isc vs. Envy

      Sorry, Swanny.

      Resonance vs. Macduff the 2nd

Hmm. Resonance is an awesome design, and very tough, but not unbeatable. Ill use Set-up 5 here, which is a hardox spike through the skirt on Set-up 4. When inverted the skirt will flip over like before but that spike will be touching the ground, not the skirt.

But anyway back to why Im choosing Set-up 5. Three reasons.

      1. Spear the drum and stop it moving so I can push him around.
      2. Because its a ramming spike, Resonance wont go over the top of me when I ram him.
      3. If the spike gets ripped off, itll be Set-up 4 all over again, which aint too bad considering it would have been my second choice. And when he rips the spike off, his drum will be slowed enough for me to ram him quickly without taking much damage.

So, I will get him down that pit ASAP. Pit pit pit!

but alas it will be envy that will face resonance in the final. envy has a shallow angle front hinge flipper and can sustain hits from spinners, hardox you see . i dont doubt for a second 6isc will be a difficult fight but envy is quick and can get right under opponents flipping them with ease. i will hold back on the flipper until the right time as to take minimal damage when flipper is open. a careful well thought battle ahead i think. will go for quick oota

          quote:

One question though. Why was The 6isc being bounced by its own attacks? If the flywheel is spinning in an upward direction, as all vertical disks should, the backlash should be going down, pressing the machine into the ground rather than bouncing it up.

Check this videos out, vert spinners bounce quite a bit when hitting things...

          Resonance vs. Macduff the 2nd

Spin up, and attack. Should be able to get some good flips in on the Duff.

In both those videos, the bouncing was because the robot was so low it got under the disc before it struck. Normally, vertical discs wouldnt bounce up like that.

              The Roaring Donkey mini-tournament

The semi finals are here...well, one of them is anyway. Ill get the other one done later.

              The 6isc (6isk?) vs. Envy

              ROBOTEERS, STAND BY

Booth 1, left hand side: Shane Swan, and a man in a penguin outfit
Booth 2, right hand side: Frank Goacher

Envy is immediately off, going for the box rush to stop The 6isc from spinning up, but The 6isc saw it coming and dodges the attack rather nicely, moving up towards the top of the arena. Envy gives chase, but The 6iscs weapon is spun up now, and although Envy is able to get underneath one of its opponents wheel pods, the disc makes contact with the side as it does so!
CRASH! And as Envy goes flying, it knocks its aggressor upwards as well! Both machines land, Envy is upside down though...no real problem, as it somersaults back on to its wheels in a cloud of CO2 and speeds away from the incoming 6isc. The robots now square off, Envy trying to manuver around the side of The 6isc, while Frank tries to keep his machines weapon facing the opponent. Theyre moving in some sort of waltz, it would seem...but then The 6isc breaks the deadlock and goes all out at Envy!
CRASH! The 6isc is flung off the wedge of Envy by the force of that hit, which appears to have caused a long dent in Envys flipper arm. Envy is now on the attack though, and drives in under The 6isc!
CRASH! And just like before, the robots are torn away from each other, Envys front now looking rather scarred. Shane continues on the offensive though, coming around and ramming into The 6isc before it can spin up again...slamming it against the top arena wall! The 6isc attempts to drive off the top of Envy, but it only has one set of wheels in contact with the ground, and can do little more than reposition itself on the wedge, before...
FLIP! And the nose of Envy bounces up! It comes down though, and the flipper appears to have done its work, as The 6isc is propped on the angle grinder! One wheel pod is hanging over the arena entrance area, and it would only take a little nudge to send it into oblivion. Envy backs off...Shane fires the flipper again...and comes in to oblige with a tap to The 6isc with the extended weapon, and Frank sets his transmitter down as his robot slides off across the scenery.

              CEASE

After a short but sweet battle, Shane Swan and Envy are through to the tournament final!

I did not expect that, seriously.

Eh, Macduff the 2nd was made to survive strong spinners, so well see if I make it past Resonance, but Envy is looking pretty good at the moment...

You may certainly borrow the kitchen sink, but if you managed to get rid of The 6isc, you can beat Resonance... Theyre more of less the same design

                          Heres the other semi final...

                          Macduff The Second vs. Resonance

                          ROBOTEERS, STAND BY

Booth 1, left hand side: Kody Kunz

And in very similar fashion to the last fight, the robot on the left goes for the box rush. Resonance turns away from the attack, and Macduff nearly hits the arena wall as it tries to reverse away. Resonance is backing off, trying to get its drum spinning to a reasonable speed, as Macduff comes in, and lines up a ram...Resonance moves forward to try and hit the sides, but Macduff turns, and goes in!
CRASH! And Macduff bounces backwards, not quite thrown away by the energy, but sporting a slightly bent spike...it tries to keep the initiative though, as Resonance tries to manuver around the side. Macduff turns, and comes in again with the spike!
CRASH! Macduff does go flying this time, but lands on its rounded back and comes down on its tracks! Resonance turns away, Aaron trying to buy some spin up time. Macduff drives over the flame grid, turning around to come in on the attack, but that spike is looking rather bent now - its almost sticking in the air. Macduff drives in, residual flames blazing behind it*, as Resonance turns to keep its weapon facing the opponent. Macduff thinks about ramming, Resonance moving in with the drum at full speed, but it doesnt anticipate Macduff well enough, as it comes in on the side!
CRASH! And somehow, Resonance got a drum hit in, and a rip has now appeared in Macduffs side...it hasnt stopped the charge much though, as it comes in again, and goes underneath the drum with the wedge! Resonance isnt spinning any longer, the spike shaft of Macduff stopping the teeth from moving, and it is now being pushed into the arena walls by the Scottish rambot. Macduff turns towards the pit, but in the process manages to drop Resonance, which turns away...or its turning away slowly, as one of the wedgelets protecting the wheels is stuck underneath the left hand side of the robot, severely impeding its movement, and Macduff sees this and rams again! The drum is spinning, somewhat, but it doesnt seem to have much effect on Macduff, just knocking it backwards slightly, as Resonance inexorably is driven towards the pit...Macduff turns, slowly, attempting to line itself up to drop Resonance in the pit, and pushes. Aaron is holding his controls up in desperation, but his robots drum is only knocking one of the edges of Macduff a bit, until one of its wheel pods slides down onto the edge of the pit...
CRASH! What happened there? Macduffs front skirt is hanging by a thread - the hinges must have been hit by the weapon as it went down! Kody looks briefly alarmed, but then Resonance, jolted slightly backwards by the impact, slides along the edge of the pit slightly before tipping down in a pall of smoke. Aaron looks puzzled, partially relieved that its all over, while Kody smiles to himself in his control booth.

                          CEASE

Its not really a good day for spinning weapons - Macduff The Second and Kody Kunz go through to the final!

Comments, predictions, thoughts? I especially want the last one as Im not sure how well Im doing the battles with spinners in, as its not a subject Im really knowledgable about.

*Also, what was it on TV with the little residual bits of flame following robots for a few seconds after they drove over the flame jets? Is it some inherent flammability of robots, or a property of fire?

Hah. I had a sixth sense as soon as I saw the design that a Disc version would face it sooner rather than later.

As stated we have similar designs, but I have a few key advantages.

                            1) As always when I face a fellow spinner with no stated power output, I ran it through the KJ checker and came up with some interesting results... As Aaron hasnt given size stats for the teeth I cant be 100% certain, but Resonance clocks in at a whopping... 20-0dd KJs. I cant find a way of getting it anywhere close to 30 without also putting it overweight. Power advantage: Me.

                            2) Assuming were not making gung-ho tactics, we cant collide head on, because wed also be going into each others weapons, so to play it safe wed both have to go for side attacks. Ive got those spikes to get in the way, and even if he does get past them, the outer wheel hubs are totally sacrificial, and theyre nicely curved to deflect attacks better. He has much smaller spikes, thinner armour which is also flatter. Armour advantage: Me.

Basically, my tactics are to strike his sides and try to kill his drive chain. If I cant get a good shot in at him, just go in gung-ho and take advantage of my two advantages. Strike that drum and try to take those teeth off.

Technically, this is The Disc 5, but theyre pretty much identical in shape

                                http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb207/Pcbore/TheDisc.pnghttp://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...re/TheDisc.png

Because of my uh... Brilliant paint skills, I cant say its anything like the exact dimensions, but its close enough. The proper dimensions are in the stats, so between those and the picture you can get a good idea of what it is.
