The Crash & Burn Tournament: Extreme!

Ill chuck some stuff in for old times sake...

          Ramming Rave:

          Name: Knightrous Wedge
          Motivation: 6WD
Shape: A wedge shape like SJ (http://www.buildersdb.com/botpics/845.JPGhttp://www.buildersdb.com/botpics/845.JPG)
          Speed: 40MPH
          Weight: 100kg
          Height: 320mm
          Length: 750mm
          Width: 650mm
Weapon: A speedy hydraulic front hinged lifter/flipper (0.25 second to do the full 120 degree movement) which is powered by a hydraulic motor geared 12:1 onto a crank shaft that lever on the lifting arm. (Diagram can be provided for Writer). The front wedge is made out of 10mm Hardox 500 and scraps the ground at 0mm.
Chassis/Armour: 5mm Hardox 600 sides, 8mm Titanium base and top. 3.25mm Hardox 450 floating skirts on the sides and back.
Drive: The drive is a hydra-static drive train. It has a 42HP Honda CR125 motor bike motor (2005 model) with a custom made swash plate hydra-static pump bolted to the motor output shaft. The hydra-static drive provides full motor torque at 0MPH right up to 40MPH (Electric motors and normal hydraulic drives cannot provide this feat, if you google hydra-static, you€™ll find out why). 6 x 120mm wheels that are 100mm wide provide the maximum traction when coated in 15mm of Urathane Rubber (Volcalon).
Notes: Gyro-stabalised and has an active traction control system build from a pair of 18X picaxe chips and some custom software and sensors. This will help maintain maximum control and handling at high speeds. Can self right with lifter and has 0mm ground clearance at the skirts and 15mm under the body. The robot also has rate limiting on the radio, so top speed can be set prior to the battle, to suit the opponent(s)

Advantages: The SPEED! The Pushability! The Strength!
Disadvantages: Having to keep your opponent in the arena long enough to have fun

          Disco Ball:

          Rogue

          Motivation: Wheeled
          Speed: 18.84KMH (11.775MPH)
          Weight: 91.39kg
          Height: 248mm
          Length: 523mm
          Width: 1040mm
Ground Clearance: 10mm under disc teeth and increases to 20mm at the back.
Weapon: The weapon is a 24.61 kg, 580mm (From tooth tip to tooth tip) diameter flywheel mounted on a 20 degree angle. The flywheel is powered by a 6.8kg 125cc 5.3Kw (7.06HP) Husqvana chainsaw with modified Astroflight electric starter motor. The chainsaw has a peak RPM off 8500rpm and is geared 3.4:1 with a kevlar innerbound belt drive to produce a flywheel speed of 2500rpm. The chainsaw has a centrifugal clutch that prevents the flywheel from spinning at idle and prevents the chainsaw from stalling by cutting out at 500-600rpm. The weapon has a tip speed of 273.14Km/h while producing around 32Kjs of Kinetic Energy. The teeth are based on a shark tooth design where a inner concave to cut though metal much quicker and easier. The teeth are CNC machine blocks of Hardox 650 Wareplating to maintain a near perfect cutting edge.
Drive: The drive is a pair of S28-400 Magmotors coupled to a pair of 8:1 aluminium planetary gearbox which gives a final output speed of 500rpm at the drive shaft. The wheels are 200mm (8inch) Colson wheels with 3.25 mm Hardox 450 protection plates and 8mm thick Grade 5 Titanium/Vandium domes with tip spikes. The wheels are mounted on 40mm hollow, 5mm wall Stainless Steel shafts for maximum strength.
Batteries: 2 x 24v 3600mAh NiCD Battlepacks producing 24v @ 7200mAh supply (Enough for 10mins of solid driving, 8 mins of driving with several motor starts)
Monocoque (Chassis/Armour): The monocoque (chassis & armour combined) is a fully tig welded 8mm thick Grade 5 Titanium/Vandium with support braces and inner bulk heads for maximum strength and rigidness.
Electronics: Runs a RoboWars.org BMC speed controller with Hitec Focus SS-3 75mhz PCM 3ch Radio and a 3-axis computer Gyro for maxium control and handling. Uses 150amp rated Anderson power pole connectors and locking pins. Electronics are shock mounted and mounting in a floating style encased in HD (High Density) foam.
Notes: Can selfright via off balance weight distribution when upside down and is added by the contact of the flywheel on the floor.

          Mayhem:

          Name: Mass Disctruction Revolution (MDR)
          Motivation: Wheels
          Speed: 10.5MPH
          Ground Clearance: 10mm
          Weight: 100kg
          Height: 140mm
          Length: 700mm
          Width: 700mm
Weapon: MDR sports a nifty 25.69kg Titanium Spinning Rim. The spinning rim is powered by a C40 Magmotor on 36v and is geared 5:1, rotating the spinning shell at 1200rpm and should spin up in around 2 seconds to max speed.
Drive: 2 x S28 Magmotors on 36v geared 12:1 onto a 140mm diameter wheel. Wheels are coated in urethane rubber to get more traction. The combined drive has 8HP peak power.
          Batteries: 120 x 3600mAh NiCad Cells made into 36v packs. Produces 36v @ 14.4Amp/Hours
Armor: 5mm Aluminium top and bottom.
Notes: Invertible and easily to drive.

Strengths: Spinning weapon can attack/defend from any direction and has a moderately good 4WD drive train.
Weakness: High ground clearance might leave it susceptible to wedges and flippers. Rammers may try to box rush.

          Challenge Belt:

          Name: Sauron - New Bot!
          Motivation: 2WD
Speed: 8MPH Translational 80MPH Tip Speed
          Weight: 100kg
          Height: 150mm
          Length: 600mm
          Width: 600mm
Weapon: Translational Spinner - The robot itself is the weapon. It uses its drive and a custom made micro processor system similar to that used in a fellow translational spinner called Cyclone Bot to translate itself around the arena creating a €œVortex of Destruction€. Using 4 Hardox €œenlightened€ teeth, it tears its opponent to pieces when the teeth collide at a smashing 80MPH.
          Drive: 4 x 12v D-Pack motors @ 26.4v, 2 motors per wheel with 150mm diameter 100mm wide urathane wheels, produces approx. 16 Peak HP
          Batteries: 80 x A123 2300mAh @ 3.3v Lithium Nanophosphate Cells. Makes a 26.4v @ 23000mAh (23Amp/Hr) battery pack.
Armour/Chassis: 5mm Hardox 500, welded monocoque, internally braced for max strangth.
Notes: Invertible, is a ring shape with all the components hidding in the ring. Sloppy Render here:

hello. my name is shane and am a roboteer of sorts. i was just wondering with your vapour bots do you work out the gear ratio and speeds of your robots. there is a thz how to calculator and all you have to do is fill in the fields and it calcs the speeds and ratios. tis good. but if you have already access to it or do it another way then cool.anyway if it helps here is the link
              http://howto.killerhurtz.co.uk/calculator.htmhttp://howto.killerhurtz.co.uk/calculator.htm
hope this helps if it already hasnt.

Shane, a lot 99% of the people here just guess... Myself, I use EDT Sim software or the good old calculator(Wheel size(Metres) x 3.14 x RPM x 60 / 1000 = KM/H). The odd time Ill just approx if Im lazy or rushing.

The Crash & Burn Tournament: Extreme!

                  Ill enter, with:
Mayhem: Battle Raptor IV, Ringwraith, SYNDOS
                  All Stars: Double Killa, MORD2
                  Challenge Belt: Snakebite IV
                  Pinball: Drilla Killa 7
                  Sumo Basho: Tenderizers Revenge 2
Vengeance: Drilla Killa 7 (I accept Steves challenge!)

                  BATTLE RAPTOR 4
                  Weight: 100kg
Shape: Invertable box with wedge at front, rounded sides and rear, painted orange with black stripes like the raptors in Jurassic Park - since theres no room for an aesthetic raptor head, the paint job on the flipper displays a raptor head
                  Dimensions: 70 x 55 x 30
                  Speed: 16mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front due to low wedge, 0 at sides and rear due to skirts
Armour: 4mm Hardox, with holes drilled in it to reduce weight
Wheels: 4, inside robot, poke out the top so the robot can run inverted, uses skid steering
                  Power: 4 Perm 080s motors on 24V powered by 24V @ 12amp batteries
Weapons: The robot has an pneumatic Atomic-style flipper, with a flipping plate over the wedge at the front (with a plate sticking out of the front and running along the floor for 5cm for getting under skirts) and two bars attached to it that run down either side of the top of the robot to the flipper hinges 3/4 of the way along. At the centre of the top is a titanium electrically powered axe with a Terrorhurtz-style blade. Both weapons work at the front in this version - the flipper is fairly powerful since it is pneumatically powered (about 25 flips per fight), and while the axe isnt as powerful, it should still make a mark, particularly in vulnerable areas like wheels.
Srimech: Flipper and axe can both serve as a srimech (on their own, not together). If weapons fail in resting position, robot can run inverted. Flipper hinges and axe blade fit inside the robot and dont poke out the top, so they dont prop it up.
Tactics: Try to flip opponents, and if I cant, hammer them.
Strengths: Dual weaponry, invertable, manouverable due to skid steering
Weaknesses: Wheels vulnerable to axes, no weapons to attack from rear

                  RINGWRAITH
                  Weight: 100kg
Shape: Invertable cylinder on its side, like Barberous, but weapon shaped like Pussycats blade from Series 4 & 5 (side on - its wider of course), painted black
                  Dimensions: 100 x 30 x 30
                  Speed: 18mph
                  Ground Clearance: 10mm
                  Turning Circle: 0
Armour: 15mm LexiGuard inside and a 30kg Duralumin spinning blade
                  Wheels: 2, outside robot
                  Power: 36V battery and motors
Weapon: 30kg Duralumin spinning body. It is powered by a C40-400 at 36V geared 3:1 and can reach a top speed of 900RPM. The entire robot is shaped like Pussycats blade from Series 4 & 5 and is designed to tear into all sorts of armour. The tips of the blades are made from Grade 5 Titanium. Its weapon acts like Corkscrew or Warhog and has a greater power than Matildas flywheel - it can cut into 5mm Titanium.
                  Srimech: Invertable
Tactics: Just keep slamming into opponents with the spinning body and turn into them to try and keep them from hitting me.
Strengths: Hard to attack, manouverable, powerful weaponry
Weaknesses: Exposed wheels, tricky to control

SYNDOS (SLICE N DICE ON STEROIDS)
                  Weight: 96kg
Shape: Invertable box with rounded sides and rear
                  Dimensions: 60 x 60 x 45
                  Speed: 12mph
Ground Clearance: 4mm at front, 0 at sides and back due to skirts, skirts are sprung for extra lowness
                  Armour: 4mm Hardox
Wheels: 2, inside robot, with RC gyro for extra control
                  Power: 2 Perm 080s motors on 24V powered by 24V @ 12amp batteries
Weapon: 25kg 3000rpm titanium vertical spinning disc at front
                  Srimech: Invertable
Tactics: Mash with big-a** disc, and try to flip as well.
Strengths: Powerful weapon; low ground clearance
Weaknesses: No weapons on sides and rear; a bit on the slow side

                  DOUBLE KILLA
A two part clusterbot that can attack joined together or apart.

                  DK1
                  Weight: 50kg
Shape: A Spawn Again-like wedge, painted blue, and two screws poking out the rear
                  Dimensions: 60 x 30 x 30
                  Speed: 13mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front, 0 at sides and rear due to skirts, 2mm behind skirts
                  Armour: 4mm Hardox
                  Wheels: 4, inside robot
                  Power: 24V battery and motors
Weapon: CO2 powered flipper, with Chaos 2-style upward flip
Srimech: Flipper acts as srimech if it lands on its back; sides are slanted so if it rests on them, the flipper will still right it; two screws poke out of the rear so it cant rest there
Tactics: To flip opponents on their backs or OOTA.
Strengths: Classic wedge shape; fairly fast
                  Weaknesses: Ineffective against skirted opponents

                  DK2
                  Weight: 50kg
Shape: A low invertable box, shaped a bit like Drillzilla, with screws tapped into sides; painted green
                  Dimensions: 45 x 60 x 15
                  Speed: 16mph
Ground Clearance: 3mm at front and rear, 0 at sides due to skirts, 3mm behind skirts
                  Armour: 4mm Hardox
                  Wheels: 4, inside robot
                  Power: 36V battery and motors
Weapon: At front, two small Kan Opener style claws, each positioned at a front corner, used as a clamp on other robots and to hold onto DK1s rear; at rear, a horizontal spinning Pussycat-style saw blade
Srimech: Invertable; screws at sides prevent it resting there
Tactics: To clamp opponents and run them into arena obstacles, or to cause damage with the saw blade
                  Strengths: Fast and manouverable
Weaknesses: Weight disadvantage so it may not be able to pull or push some opponents

                  M.O.R.D2
                  Weight: 110kg
Shape: Box, with sides that slant outwards from the top and bottom edges to form triangles, like Tornados rear (hopefully this will lower the effectiveness of spinners)
                  Dimensions: 90 x 32 x 35
                  Speed: 20mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front due to plow, 0 at sides and rear due to skirts, which are fixed to the points of the triangles and can work either way up
Armour: Body is 4mm Hardox; scoop is 4mm titanium; skirts are 3mm titanium
                  Movement: Camshafts like Drillzilla
                  Power: 4 Perm 080s motors on 24V powered by 24V @ 12amp batteries
Weapons: At the front is an electrically powered scoop which operates through 180 degrees, so it can work when the robot is inverted. Behind the scoop is a 20kg spinning drum with 8 titanium teeth on it, spinning at 2000rpm and hopefully able to flip robots as well as damage them. The drum comes into play if the scoop is lifted.
Srimech: Invertable; triangles at sides and rear prevent it resting there
Tactics: Shove opponents with the scoop; then lift the scoop and attack with the drum
Strengths: Fast; good traction; powerful drum
Weaknesses: Less manouverable than wheeled robots

                  SNAKEBITE 4
                  Weight: 110kg
Shape: Low invertable box with wedge shaped like a snakes head at the centre of the front, skirts at either side of the wedge and rounded sides
                  Dimensions: 90 x 70 x 23
                  Speed: 18mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front due to low wedge and skirts, 0 at sides due to skirts, 3mm at rear
Armour: Body is 4mm Hardox; skirts are 3mm titanium
                  Movement: Camshafts like Drillzilla
                  Power: 4 Perm 080s motors on 24V powered by 24V @ 12amp batteries
Weapons: At the centre of the front is a 40cm wide wedge with a titanium edge for getting under skirts. The wedge is split horizontally down the middle and opens up like a jaw hydraulically - this is designed for lifting rather than flipping, and can also clamp on low robots that it gets under. On either side of the wedge are skirts which help get under other robots who arent on the wedge. The skirts and wedge both flop down when inverted so can be used either way up. At the rear is a horizontal MOE-style 8kg 2500rpm spinning blade.
Srimech: Invertable; rounded sides prevent it resting there
Tactics: Try to get under robots, lift and shove them around, and damage them with the blade.
Strengths: Fast; good traction; well armoured
Weaknesses: Low flippers can get it at the rear; has difficulty flipping opponents

                  DRILLA KILLA 7
                  Weight: 99kg
Shape: Low invertable box, painted red, with a Tornado-like low wedge at the front, and an upside down one at the back for when the robot is upside down, and skirts at the sides fixed at the centre so they work whichever way up the robot is
                  Dimensions: 110 x 40 x 25
                  Speed: 17mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front due to wedge; 0 at sides due to skirts, 3mm behind skirts, 25cm at most at back due to inverted wedge
                  Turning Circle: 2cm
                  Armour: 5mm Hardox
                  Wheels: 6, inside robot
                  Power: 4 Perm 080s motors on 24V powered by 24V @ 12amp batteries
Weapon: Each wedge has a hole in the centre - inside each hole is a diamond tipped drill, spinning at 600 rpm, which comes out of the hole using a motor. It can come out to cause damage when an opponent is on the wedge, or can stay out and cause damage when the robot rams opponents.
Srimech: Invertable; cannot rest on sides due to skirts
Tactics: To get under unskirted opponents, slam them around and bring out the drills to damage their underbellies; to ram skirted opponents with the drills out and try to cause damage
                  Strengths: Good pushing power
Weaknesses: Drills may not penetrate very thick armour; high ground clearance at back

                  TENDERIZERS REVENGE 2
                  Weight: 97kg
Shape: Low invertable box with low wedge at the front and inverted wedge at the back - painted blue with its name painted to look like blood on the skirts
                  Dimensions: 90 x 90 x 20
                  Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: 0 all around due to low wedge and skirts, 2mm behind side skirts, 20cm behind skirt on inverted wedge. Both wedges have skirts attached to them at their edge. The wedge and side skirts are attached to rotatable cylinders inside the robot (or wedge) so they can be moved up and down. When they are down, they are very low and its hard to get underneath, but the robots speed is reduced to 9mph. The side skirts can go up to a point where they work inverted. The skirts on the wedges move within 90 degrees - when their wedge is inverted, they are in a vertical position to repel flippers, and when their wedge is right way up, they are in a horizontal position, riding along the ground to help get under robots. When the robot is moving around normally, all skirts except the front wedge one are pulled down low but not to maximum lowness so it can move quickly - the skirts go to maximum lowness if a flipper comes anywhere near it.
Armour: Main body has 5mm polycarbonate on top of 5mm titanium, skirts are 4mm titanium, wedges are 5mm hardox
                  Wheels: 4, inside robot
                  Power: 4 Perm 080s motors on 24V powered by 24V @ 12amp batteries
Weapon: An electrically powered lifting arm, which runs along half of the top of the robot - its tip is pointed to help hold onto robots, and is at the point where the wedge meets the body, and it does not go down the wedge. It can rotate through 360 degrees so it can be used when the robot is inverted.
Srimech: Invertable - arm will act as srimech, but this will hardly happen as the robot works identically both ways up. Moveable skirts prevent it from resting on its sides.
Tactics: Run into opponents, try to get under them, then get them onto its top and onto the arm. The arm turns them over, or catches them so I can carry them around.
Strengths: Decent pushing power; moveable skirts; difficult to attack by flippers
Weaknesses: May struggle to use arm against some opponents

The Crash & Burn Tournament: Extreme!

Thanks Paul, but thats my job.

A bit of bad luck Im afraid. Our computer has got a killer virus and has completely destroyed our system, meaning I can only access the computers at the nearby library, so delays are ahead.

Aaron, you need 3 bots for Mayhem, and 2 for the All-Stars. And thanks a lot Richie.

                      Delays?

                      NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

                      *Breath*

And hooray for everyone entering this competition - I cant wait to start!!!!

Im writing from school as Im blocked from the Internet at home. My personel favorite competition look (as in the robots entering) is the Mayhem. I mean, we have Leprosy Infection, Whirligig 4.0, MeCannibal, SYNDOS and Battle Raptor 4.

I hope MeCannibal gets to face Whirligig later in the competition. What a fight that would be!!

The Crash & Burn Tournament: Extreme!

Ill have a think about proper entries later, but for now if Alex is up for it, I dont believe any Vengence match listing will be complete without The Disc taking on Slammer

                          Hmmm...

and if Steve-os around we always need a vengeance between Wedge and Hypo.

Will? Does this mean Hypertension will be making another competition apperance? Im sure that itll be the first appearance since VFT6, when it beat robots like MDU, Mother Of All Bricks 2, to come 3rd? I think Steve should accept. Great fight itll be!

The Crash & Burn Tournament: Extreme!

Ill dig some more bots out later Kody. Flooded with work at the moment and organising moving into a new house

Think I need to come up with a flipper or a crusher... Maybe a hammerbot... Can I enter one bot into two events? ie: Sauron into Mayhem and Allstars?

The Crash & Burn Tournament: Extreme!

Paul - Calm down, soon (I dearly hope) I will be getting my own computer.

Matt - Is Hypertension the new Hypo? Im not sure, could someone refresh my memory?

Aaron - Of course you can, but I dont encourage it unless you are being lazy.

Entry form list will be up in a few minutes. Hooray for Word Processing on library computers. It makes things so much easier.
