  • Robot-O-Inferno - Series 1

Quite frankly, Im getting bored. Ive been getting no inspiration to do my real robot tournament, and the forum appears to be empty. Having watched the entire of Robot Wars Series 1, Ive decided maybe a vapourbot tournament may inspire me a bit more...so, basically, Im re-inventing the wheel. A RW1 style tournament. Ive no idea how successful it will be, but I may as well give it a go.

    RULES
-I need six people to enter six robots.
-Each robot in a persons team is to be designed for a specific trial (I cant have two robots on the same team entering the sumo).
-In S1, there was no real weight limit. Here, the minimum weight is 5 kilos, the maximum is 95 kilos. Youll need every resource you can get here.
    -NO real Robots, at all.
-The Gauntlet is the same as the S1 Gauntlet.

    TRIAL GUIDANCE.
1: Sumo - Your robot should have a low front Ground Clearance, good traction and, above all, should be as heavy as possible.
2: British Bulldog - Good traction and a powerful weapon is required here.
3: Football - Good control and something to collect the ball.
4: Stock Car - It must be small, fast and agile.
5: Maze - It must be small in size and have good control.
6: Snooker - Again, something to collect the balls.

    STATS NEEDED

    Robot Name.
    Weight.
    Body Shape.
    Dimensions.
    Weight Class (if known).
    Speed.
    Turning Circle.
    Ground Clearance.
    Armour.
    Weapons (if any).
Flipping Combat (in other words, can it right itself, or run inverted, or is it literally flip and its dead?).
    Extra Features (if any).
    Trial Built for.
Gauntlet Path (Maze, Ramps, House Robots).

I have no idea how successful this will be, but I hope I get a few looks.

      Robot-O-Inferno - Series 1

Heh heh heh, this is gonna be good.

      TEAM ZLAYERZ

      Hyper-Insomnia-Para-Condrioid

      Class: Heavyweight
Shape: Low double wedge, with the front one electrically-powered and the rear one with a skirt.
      Colour: Black, green, and orange.
      Weight: 95kg
Power: Two LEM130s, powered by NiMH cells. Sports 2 wheels that are very similar to the TWR18 featherweight wheels, only bigger. They are outside the robot.
      Speed: 16mph
Armour: The entire body is 6mm hardox 750. The electric wedge is 7mm Boron Carbide, and the rear skirt is made of titanium. The wheels have 11mm aluminum hubs from which are 4 hardox spikes.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front and rear, and 5mm at the sides.
      Dimensions in CM: 95 x 75 x 15
Weaponry: The main weapon is the electric wedge as previously explained. Its powered by a linear actuator and can press against the ground, therefore sliding under anything wedge or skirt. It reaches its maximum extent of 60 degrees at 2 seconds. Its quite capable of lifting 250kg, and it can flip about 450kg. When HIPC is inverted, the wedge flops down like a skirt but slowly, and works the same way. At the side edges of the wedge are blades that jut out. Theyre made of hardox and can bludgeon an opponent when spinning. The other weapons are the hardox spikes attached to the wheel hubs. They are arranged in a diamond fashion and like the wedge spikes, when HIPC spins around, they can bludgeon the opponent some. Can do both upside-down.
      Srimech: Invertible.
Strengths: Powerful, just as effective when inverted. Youd be hard put to damage this bad boy, or get under him.
Weaknesses: Wheels exposed from top, but try getting to them.

NOTES: For this tournament the LEM200Ds are scrapped for LEM130s to shift the weight from 100kg to 95kg.

      Shadow Zone

      Class: Heavyweight
Shape: Box with front wedge, side skirts and rear skirts and wedge. Explained more properly in the picture:

      http://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/ShadowZone.bmphttp://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/ShadowZone.bmp

Colour: Mix of yellows, greens, all tinged dark.
      Weight: 94kg
Drive: 2 C40-500 Mags @ 36v, geared 4.5:1 and powered by NiMH cells. 4WD, with a castor under the front wedge to help with turning.
      Speed: 18mph
Armour: 8mm 7075 aircraft aluminum. The skirts are titanium and bolted to the sides.
Ground Clearance: The wedge scrapes the ground at 0mm, the sides are 0mm (2mm without skirts), and the rear is also 0mm around the flipper.
      Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 85 x 65 x 30
Weaponry: A Matador-style flipping arm at the rear of the robot. Its powered by a single 2kg CO2 tank, making for about 10-15 odd flips. Can flip about 800kg and toss about 340kg. Its not supposed to be used frequently, only against more powerful rammers and/or flippers.
      Srimech: Flipper
Strengths: Maybe Infusion could get under it...very well armoured, and has great pushing power and speed.
      Weaknesses: Infusion.

NOTES: The armour gets 3mm shaved off, and the flipper is now powered by a 2kg CO2 bottle, making for less powerful fipping power (but still good), for this.

      Wedginator 5.0

      Class: Heavyweight
      Shape: Tetrahedral
Colour: Still an alligator-style texture, however the evil face shall be on the next CAD.
      Weight: 95kg
Drive: 2 LEM130s run on 48v, and geared at 6:1. Run by NiMH cells at 48v and sports the same 2 go-kart tires as before, however less beefy.
      Speed: 25mph
Armour: The whole robots exterior armour is 15mm polycarbonate. There are also hardox skirts all around, and the front one is more fixed to help getting under opponent.
Ground Clearance: Completely zero with skirts all around, without skirts its 1mm at the front, and 5mm at the sides/rear.
      Dimensions in CM: 75 x 80 x 25
Weaponry: A front-hinged flipper powered by duel 2kg CO2 tanks in front of the wheels. This gives Wedginator 5.0 the power to flip over 1750kg easily.
Srimech: Still invertible, but hard to self-right anyway.
Strengths: Weapon, is fast, powerful, and very hard to get under.
      Weaknesses: Extremely powerful vertical spinners.

NOTES: Front Lexan armour is gone and the 3kg CO2 tanks are swapped for 2kg tanks.

      Super Gore: Total Destruction

      class: Heavyweight
      Shape: Take a look:

      http://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/SuperGoreTD.bmphttp://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/SuperGoreTD.bmp

Colour: Navy blue. The disc is cobalt, and the teeth are blood-red.
      Weight: 95kg
Drive: 2 S28-400 Magmotors at 36v, gearing is 6:1, and are powered by NiCd cells run at 36v. Has four wheels, 2 in the middle-front, 2 at the rear.
      Speed: 13mph
Armour: 5mm hardox 650, and disc is made of titanium, with 2 hardox teeth.
      Ground Clearance: 2mm all around
      Dimensions in CM: 95 x 65 x 10
Weaponry: A front horizontal disc weighing in at 27kg, and spins at 2500rpm, reaching that speed in 2.5 seconds. It has hardox teeth to rip through medium-strong armour, and can tear off panels with ease. Its powered by a LEM170 run on 48v. It can get up to half-speed and still cause great damage. The whole robot is heavily shockproofed to avoid recoil damage from the power of the disc.
      Srimech: Invertible.
Strengths: Extremely destructive, good spin-up time, good armour. Powerful.
Weaknesses: Not the best control or maneouverability by a long shot, wheels exposed from top as always with invertible bots.

NOTES: C40s swapped for S28s for weight rule.

      Solstice

      Class: Middleweight
      Shape: Heyyyy, heres a pic:

      http://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/Solstice.bmphttp://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/Solstice.bmp

Colour: Chartreuse. The top is dark turquoise.
      Weight: 49kg
      Speed: 8mph
Armour: The shell is made of a 4mm Ti/V alloy, so it is very resilient, but not indestructible by a long shot.
      Dimensions in CM: 65 x 65 x 15
Drive: Uses two S28-400 MagMotors, geared 3:1 and set to 36v. It has 4 Vulkalon tires which poke up through holes in the top, making it invertible. NiCad packs power the Mags.
      Ground Clearance: 2mm
Weapons: The shell spins at 2000rpm, and has several hardox diamond-tipped teeth to rip and tear through most armours. It is run by an Etek motor powered by NiMH cells.
Srimech: Doesnt need one; its invertible.
Strengths: Very destructive, invertible, tough armour.
Weaknesses: Wheels exposed to axes, crushers. Slow.

      NOTES: Speed is up 1mph.

      Xianghua

      Class: Middleweight
      Shape: Lookie:

      http://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/XianghuaWithSCTop.bmphttp://www.geocities.com/kodybluz/XianghuaWithSCTop.bmp

      Weight: 50kg
Speed: 15mph (a set top speed for more control)
Colour: Sky-bluish with pink flipper and skirts. Has pic of Xianghua from SoulCalibur III on it.
Drive: 4 S28-400 Magmotors powered by 8 x 36v NiCad battlepacks, which should give her an excellent amount of shoving power. Has Bad Attitude-style wheels. The body is shockproofed to absorb heavy blows.
Armour: 4mm titanium/vanadium alloy, and the underbelly is 5mm 6061 aircraft aluminum.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front, 2mm at sides and back.
      Dimensons in CM: 50 x 50 x 10
Weapons: A linear actuated front-hinged flipper on Xianghuas wedge. It should be able to flip her own weight. Its mainly used for pinning an opponent against an arena wall on its side, when ramming against a wall, but it can be used to toss opponents onto their backs.
      Srimech: Invertible.
Strengths: Fast, powerful, versatile, hard to flip, has excellent stamina.
Weaknesses: Not as effective on her back, has questionable underarmour.

NOTES: C40s swapped for double the amount of S28s, leaving the same speed. Shaved off the top armour by 1mm to keep weight at middleweight standards.

Good? If not, let me know and Ill fix it.

      EDIT: Forgot the trials...

      Sumo - Hyper-Insomnia-Para-Condrioid
British Bulldog - Super Gore: TD
      Football - Shadow Zone
      Stock Car - Xianghua
Maze - Solstice (should be interesting to see how a FBS can do in a maze)
      Snooker- Wedginator 5.0

        Robot-O-Inferno - Series 1

Reserve me a place in this please, if possible. It looks very interesting and might just put some more life into this place. But first, a few things to clear up:

Am I right in thinking there are no restrictions in parts and mechanisms unlike previous Series 1 styled tournaments? For example, is it possible for Hardox, LEMs and self righters to be used?

Secondly, I never watched Series 1 so how will this work out? Will there be a gauntlet, a trial and then a combat battle or am I wrong here? And are the trial specific bots guarenteed to be in that trial or could a sumo-designed bot be put into the snooker for example?

Either way, give me a bit of time and Ill try and make some things for this. Good job on people still trying to keep life in this place!

Nope. Whatever you say your robot is designed for, it will be put it. I mean, seriously, putting a Stock Car designed robot in a Sumo trial...who would be so cruel to do that?

Yes, the plan is that it will be EXACTLY like Series 1, including the six-way final (and no, Im not guaranteing that each person will have a robot in the final either. Ill see once everythings in). And anythings doable...its S1 in design, but not in construction.

Which reminds me...youll be surprised when the House Robots get introduced.
