  • Robot Combat Wiki?

It would be nice to have a proper wiki featuring as many competitors as possible - especially modern ones. Obviously, a real Robotic Combat wiki would be very difficult, since there would be sooo much content (all contestants from all corners of the earth, arenas, teams...? It's far too much), but if we could have something nice and detailed focusing on the modern sport and its competitors, especially here in the UK, that would be great.

The Roaming Robots Wiki couldn't cover RoboChallenge or Robots Live properly, and besides, Roaming Robots has changed names now, and the Robot Wars wiki is really for the old tv series. Also, the databases on the Robots Live and Roaming Robots/Robot Wars websites always get left in the dust.

It's not a necessity, but it would be interesting, especially if the information is added by the makers of the robots, as they know their 'bots best. It's selfish of me to ask for an undertaking like this, but I expect I'm not the only one who'd like to see something like this, and would like to help (if I could).

Not a new idea. The FRA is working on a wiki for UK robot combat. It's just... Taking a while.

Roaming Robots (now Robot Wars) used to have a robot database with all the specifications of the robots. It's a shame that it's gone now as I used to love to read what weapon motors or drive motors (etc) the robots used.

This is slightly irrelevant, but I'm certain that I saw a few spinners (on the database) with HTI motors for the weapon power. Has anyone heard of a robot called 'Kishar'? It looks like it used HTI motors for the weapon.

Kishar. Wasn't that one of Tony Booth's.

I don't know, but it looks like it used HTI motors (which are around £5 at Robot Marketplace).

Early incarnations of Drumroll used the HTI motors, but they were terrible. I got them because they were dirt cheap, but I was usually burning out one per fight, and went through six to eight of them before getting frustrated and converting to Speed 900s. It was my first foray into spinning weapons at the time so they were subjected to inexperience to a degree, but the bottom line is that they're not really suited to FW spinners. Not sure what they'd be like as drive motors though...

Good to know that. I had someone ask me about them on youtube, sadly I knew slightly less than bugger all about them. If I remember who it was I'll direct them to this.

Thanks for bringing the topic back around. Like I said though, the Robot Wars wiki is designed for the tv program rather than modern Robot Wars, and couldn't include things like Battleaxe and Goliath, or the featherweights that go to the RoboChallenge events but are banned from the others because of spinners.
The Roaming Robots/Robot Wars database became outdated quite quickly, but I did appreciate its existence.

Do we have access to the FRA's wiki?

I know that they have a very high RPM, but if you gear them down enough, they would provide a large amount of torque, and for their size, let alone the fact that they're rated at 1.43 horse-power (apparently) at 24 volts.

Everybody's going off topic because we all no the answer. It doesn't exist yet. On the cards but the good Mr Aston been too busy with... EVERYTHING ELSE.

Perhaps, since they're mostly made from contributions from many members as opposed to a single admin or whatever, it might be best to just make a basic one on Wikia and then just let people update their own pages for their own machines (as well as machines they might know a fair bit about) as and when?
Obviously, it will take time but all decent Wikis do I suppose... Would like to see one anyways, do very much like the idea!
