  • Robot for PC

    Hi guys!

I've had an idea for quite a while but havn't really taken time to start the project yet.

My general idea is building something which would work as an mobile platform for my PC, mostly for fun but also
for going to Dreamhack in style next time!

Seeing as my pc weighs around 20-25kg + the actualy weight of the robot aswell which im guessing 15-20kg I'm looking for what setup to use electonics wise.

I've got some modified drill motors, an electronice, a sabertooth 2x25 and DX5 transmitter etc.

    To the questions:

    1. Do you think 4 cheap drill motors and gear boxes would cope? And if not what motors would you recommend?

    2. Could the motors damage the electronics in the pc with their magnetism and is there any way to reduce it?
Maybe a metal plate between or some filter type thing

    3. I've forgotten most websites which is suitable for buying material for FW's and bigger so any tips would be welcome!

    /Danny

A lot of butler robots and home made RC Lawnmowers use wheel chair motors and a 2x25A Sabertooth. I wouldn't have thought you'd have any problems with interference as PC's use a lot of wifi etc.

yeah i've been into getting wheelchair motors earlier but I was wondering if theres something in between them and cordless drill ones which would be more of an optimal size.

I didn't mean interference in that way, I meant if there was a risk of the magnetic field of the motors to damage the motherboard's circuits when the PC case is being transported by this robot "platform".
As this robot is just for having a fun way of getting the PC case to the designated table, and then not really using it again until its time to get the pc case to the car.

But as i've thought of it I've seen feathers with dual drill motors pushing around other feathers and therefore moving about 24kg's as a pair then 4 of them should be able to get my 40-50kg's worth of robot + data going. But I'd rather have a little bigger motors to not strain them too much

Thanks, i actually got some motors and plastic but good to know.
Does any company still sell wheels with the 3/8 nut insert to fit drill motors?

there easy enough to make, i drill them out to 13.5mm and hammer these in
