Depends on the motor but I have run wheelchair units with an electronize 30 amp controller and have never had problems. RPM is usually marked on the motor housing. You usually get them as gearmotors with the motor, gearbox and wheels in one unit. You will need to remove the electric brake (the wheels are braked at all times unless the brake is getting 12 volts at a couple of amps - its a safety feature) or power it.
Best approach is to get a pair and try them out.

I lent someone my angle grinder and he bust it. However, the gearbox is fine and I might have a go over the festive period (as you do) with fitting it to a wheel chair motor so that I can use much smaller wheels.

Has anyone experience of such things? It is one of the small Power Devils. There is a small amount of play in the gearbox but I dont see it as a problem.

Oh and by the way, my link of the week is

      http://rainbow.arch.scriptmania.com/rainbow_tv_episode.htmlhttp://rainbow.arch.scriptmania.com/...v_episode.html

The site is wrong. The video clip was made for secret internal ITV use and was never shown on TV. What a surprise!

        Julian,

Good to see that you are still active. Any plans for events in 2005?

I fancy the idea of Amsterdam with a middleweight, perhaps with some tryouts beforehand. The angle grinder gearboxes will put small wheels inside the bodywork, saving space and weight.

Whilst in Poland I saw some cheap 32.5 v cordless drills. I wish that I had bought a pair.

Time is still my enemy. I am now officially the carer for my youngest son who is now registered with a disability. As you can imagine, I often have my hands full!

Its often been talked about but has anyone actually used angle grinder gearboxes?

Anyone noticed the magazine where you build a RC monster truck in a billion weekly parts (£6 a shot)? The starter issue is 99p and has one wheel and tyre. I bought two. The tyres are about 5 in diameter.

I saw the ad, it works out at about 350 pounds for a truck which would usually cost about 150 quid

Hammerhead 1 and 2 used anglegrinder gearboxes as first stages with reasonable results in a heavy.

Gary they dissapear on the TV and in the shops, but the hard core fans sign up using their credit card and get em sent to them by post.
Its like those Cybots, all the shows in Redditch no longer sell/stock them, but didnt matter to me as we signed up via credit card to them after issue 3. Must admit i stoped getting them now after the issue wher Cybot comes with the hand held controller. LOL Got boring.

I think i remember the RC Petrol Car which they did, like this monster truk thing which like Ewan said, works out to be over £300 for a £150 car/truck. Na well whatever turns you on.

I had Cybot, the thing that annoyed me was you were constantly taking off chips and circuit
boards that you only had just put on the edition
before.I too stopped getting it when the controller came out.
I was intresded in the model war ship they had out
a couple of years ago,i worked out that it would have cost £400 if you bought every edition.
A friend who has been making model boats for years
said a similar kit would cost about £100.
