i have seen these scooters in action. i weight 100kg (ish) and having ridden a very good one, i think you are JUST ABOUT able to use them. it will be right on the edge as far as performance goes, you are getting near the bottom end of what i would say is useful power/speed. these would make brilliant featherweight drive, but middleweight... i wouldnt.

but then, if you can double the gear ratio and overvolt them 100%, maybe this is getting reasonable results? i imagine youd get good performance in this situation, but life expectancy would be an unknown.

        hope this helps

William, to be honest I think you would be better looking at motors around the 400w to 750w range. In the middleweight typhoon we used 2 750w iskra motors and they were more than adequate for our needs.

if you need gearboxes as well? try finding scrap mobility scooters (like the ones you see in asda) or small elecric wheelchair motors?

another option, start with a featherweight, and move up to middleweights later?

would these wheel chair motors be the best to use, (im trying to get a motor which has already the gear box on it, and even better if the transmission is there also)

Gearbox and transmission is thesame for us.

Unless you want to go Firestorm, with a single motor and a differential( keep in mind that Firestorm had 1 large and 2 small motors)

Also, I think the Speed 900 motors can drive a middle. If you use 4 of m. Each do easely 320W on 24V. If 259 in heavy config could drive on 4 simular motors....

The other problem is that a middleweight has a lack of opponents, and fighting the heavyweights hurts!

Scooter motors or wheelchair motors will be fine. With wheelchairs you get motor/gearbox/wheel in one package. Lots of wheelchair units are scrapped when they have lots of life left in them. Go to your local mobility store and see whats available or check the ads in Friday Ad. You will need to remove or defeat the brake but thats not hard.
Wheelchair units will give you a slow and underpowered robot but it will be an easy build and easy to drive. You can run 36 volts to the motors to speed it up. Make it very solid with armour over the wheels because although you plan a middleweight, you will find yourself fighting heavies. I have had over 50 fights with my middleweight and only 4 of those were against other middles.
                            Good luck with your build.

Are you going to Wicksteed Park, John? Or more importantly, is the Sandwich going?
