  • Heavyweight cluster bots at live events

I enquired a while back about heavy cluster bots. The general consensus was that 50kg of robot would be too light for the big flippers and not permitted. I have been building 2 x fan powered heavy cluster bots to see if I could do it, and now they are sort of running wondered if an EO would let me fight them. What is the ruling on % of robot damage needed to be counted as having been defeated etc? The robots have been designed so I can add ballast or armour to take advantage of this.

The minimum weight for any part of a robot to enter the arena with heavyweights is i think 60kg.

Eric had to ballast up in order to get to the minimum weight when it first fought

Isn't the minimum weight limit 55kg + though? It is a bit academic but the maximum weight limit for a Middleweight is 55kg so anything more than that is a Heavyweight surely? Guess the EO would have the final say on that.

Technically it is 55kg, however in practice it whatever the EO says is correct for their arena.

They could say the minimum weight is 100kg for example. I said 60kg as thats the weight i remember being mentioned the last time this situation happened a few years ago. Some EOs may let you run feathers, others may be more strict.

          Message the EO and ask.

Ask the EO to be sure, for reference Nuts is approx 100Kg with a couple of 5Kg mini-bots (give or take depending on how we mix them). Whats important for RW was the weight that got immobilised

I don't think there would be Problem in Johns arena as the roof is polycarbonate.
Generally event organisers are interested safety. Your robots will stay in the arena there should be no problem except the robot might get hammered!!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I'll message the EO's (like I should have in the first place lol). Like you say though, can't see it ending well lol.

The weight of the "cluster" parts isn't important for the rules, it's the total weight of the machine.

I myself would be very weary of Gravity 3 flipping Valkirie3 into the arenawall...

Im new to all this so not greatly versed in the various rules but based of the robot wars rules I was under the impression that the rule applied to overall weights not indervidual weight or number of indervidual robots

I have heard Crackers for Crackers and Smash is only 50Kg with Smash being 60Kg to give a combined weight of 110Kg

there was also 'the swarm' from robot wars which consisted of 5 robots weighing 23Kg, 24Kg, 27Kg, 29Kg and 33Kg and can be fought in any number or combination thats total weight is under 110Kg

Robot Wars is a Grade 1 event however, other events around the UK may be Grade 2 or 3.
