Has anyone built a HW melty brain or in fact anyone with a FW in the U.K. that works? I'm going to buy the kit to have a play around and see what RPM it can function at, I think some of the IMU mem devices are even better now. Also the brushless rotax 50cc and bog standard controllers suit the uni-directional constraints

Yep - we have used Melty brain in Nuts 2
Its not straightforward. We have a custom speed controller board from Rory with a Melty brain logic board and software from Gareth
This is the test rig

and nuts itself

I'm not sure if it counts but http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/thre...brain-spinners knightrous mentions a 2 wheel melty being capable of 100rpm translation, a single wheel however appears to need to spin faster

Not a minimum speed but there is a trade off. The faster you spin the more energy you store and can then deal out. However the faster you spin the less time you have to try and speed up and slow down the motors in order to translate. So the faster you spin, the slower you translate/move around the arena.
As far as I can tell you're just trying to avoid getting counted out as a melty, any damage dealt is a bonus.
