  • New HW motors poll

hi all just starting No Toy Robotics new heavy weight most the parts are all ready assembled apart from the drive motors, been thinking on this for a long time but still undecided. They need pushing power, durability, ease of replacement, ease of drive system mounting single or double stage boxes both are not an issue I have two main motors in mind

    bosch 750
    amplflow e30 400
NPC T74 Motor (because I know of two around)
    6
    bosch 750
    0%
    3
    amplfow e30 400
    0%
    3
    NPC T74 Motor
    0%

    The poll is expired.

It stays on page one at the top of the thread. Getting hold of Bosch 750's ia apparently getting harder and harder and the NPC motors are expensive for not a massive amount of power. From what I have learnt when looking into heavies, the Amp-flow motors are your best bet with a custom reduction.

Iskra 800W 24v motors. 2.5kg. Smaller than a bosch 750 and completely enclosed. Used em in typhoon 2 during season 7 of robot wars before switching to magmotors for the US.

Main advantage of the Iskra AMG series is the easy availablity. About any shop that handles lorry tailgates can order them.
Also, the build of those is about rock solid.
This comes at a simular pricetag as a Bosch 750.

3 all in votes bosch 750 vs amplfow

Boschs info around 80 left at ellis components quote was £280 ish for three motors (pos do a larger group order to force price down) Advantage everyone and there dog has used them ie spares and repair info + good gearbox designs ratios etc should be freely available

Ampflow been out of stock for about 3 months which is why I am asking because I was going to by them fist, but such a long wait for reorder seems strange to me also ( I need to pay postage and import duty not sure what that makes the amplfows in comparison.

I wonder if the ampflow stuff is winding down after the over night disappearance of the US Heavyweight events?

Are you looking for a gear motor or motor on it's own?

Im a bit of an engineering snob welding is for structural items only, I will only secure gears, sprockets etc by keyways or grubscrews on flats etc. Mechanical fixings only incase the motor requires replacment or repair.
