  • Filling GoKart tyres

    Hi,
I know a lot of people fill up their pneumatic GoKart tyres to prevent punctures but this weighs a lot and is expensive. I was wondering if anyone has tried something like this:
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id_273923#tab4

From what I've found on google it seems to only partly fill your tyres then makes a thin coat around the inside of the inner tube, if you get a puncture it then quickly seals the hole to stop the air getting out.

Not sure how effective this would be in a robot so thought I'd ask if it had been used before.

    Thanks,
    Max

doesn't work, if you get a puncture during a fight the hole will be too big. Merlin runs kart tyres, only ever ran inner tubes, never bothered filling them with anything.

Filling tyres is an art. The best I ever have seen was a closed cell soft foam donut that fitted very snuggley in the tyre. But bullfrog runs on 10" wheelbarrow tyres and up to now no prblem whatsoever. No filling except an inner tyre.

Do not use PUR expanding foam from a can. It wil give a mess, and even if the wheel comes out in reasonable shape, the foam will crumble during use. Giving you an even bigger mess.

Ok thought that might be the case. I'll just run them as they are then if I get a puncture either repair it the traditional way or replace the inner tubes with closed cell soft cell doughnuts

Cherub has it's wheels filled with garden hosepipe (the green stuff with criss cross re-enforcing), Nylon split rims fitted with kart front tyres (wet) they weigh more than pneumatic tyres, but not a lot more. I have never had any problems to date.
