hey people, just a quick question: is 4mm mild steel strong enough to mount a wheelchair motor?
what i am planning to do is to have an L shaped bit of steel which i could bolt the gearbox end of it to and then atach that to a long bit of 10 or 12mm HDPE with some motorbike exaust mounts.

would this hold up to combat? by the way the wheels and motors are inside the robot
    thanks

    Re: mounting motors

from what i think you're saying it sounds fine. try and use pneumatic wheels if possible, if your robot lands on it's wheels the pneumatic wheels will take alot of the force instead of it being transferred into the frame/mounts. also it takes the alot of strain away from your robot when you flip someone else as the pneumatic wheels allow the base of your robot to touch the ground when the flipper activates.
