it depends on where it will be and what it will have to endure, in the way of punishment. If u can afford it go for titanium. Or perhaps look into hardox if you have the facilities to weld it properly otherwise 6mm steel is cheap, fairly easy to a hold of and will stand up to a lot of punishment so it may be perfect.

1 square metre of 6mm thick mild steel weighs 47kg, so its not really viable all over unless you have a very compact robot.

In the Happy Shopper end of robot creation, you cant beat checkerplate ali from a scrap metal merchants.

we currently have 3mm steel on sides/bottom/top and 6mm on the front and back, 4mm ontop of the flipper and the flipper foot is 6mm stainless. were looking into upgrading the sides and top to hardox, where do you get it from?

Alan, are you starting to panic about Blazer and those horrid spinners?

nope, the above is the armour on our heavyweight, Merlin. I aint scared of spinners (at least whilst there links out anyway!)

Use Hardox or some thing like that. Your robot will last much longer if you do so .

We Use a combination of Ali checkerplate with 8mm dyneema (mega money indestructable) as a composite on top and also underneath. There are also some bits of T10 Ti strategically placed. Armour has never been our weakness getting past the first round has

I always try to think offensive rather then defensive... Gravity 3 had 3 mm stainless steels around the back, and 4-6 mm polycarbonate on top and nothing more...

hehe i think we took the offensive rather than defensive thing to the extreme as our weapon is our armour!

WJ, I thought that your armour consisted of rows of fire extinguishers.

Bribes? Hmmm never thought of that We are confident that our re-designed Executioner will perform admirably for us at the world champs! (famous last words) It was performing very well in series 7 until our normally bullet proof vantec blew a FET We have now bought a better one!
